I'm sure that syndicate method works fine for getting bubbles out, but it's messy as fuck.
A Sram bleed takes half as long, I don't have to unbolt the caliper, and I don't have to pull the pads. I'll take a pair of syringes over dumping oil all over the place any day of the week.
Yeah I like a syringe personaly, I see sram vs shimano like ford vs chevy, as to the merits of mineral oil vs 5.1 dot (which i could only find at the bike store btw) IMO its all just brake fluid so i needed to figure out how to deal with it so I watch some vids
I hear some folks talk about "partial bleeds" and I can't figure out why anybody would partialy bleed a brake system, if its a system and its got bubbles I need to get them all out
I used to have Hopes and swore off of DOT 5.1 after that experience.

This can often fix a simple problem.
It does not replace the process of a bleed , where the goal is to remove/replace all the old dirty fluid, and purge the system of all air.
so how do you kow how much of a problem you got and where it is , sounds kind of half ass to me ?
The partial bleeds are nice sometimes because, more often than not, if a little air works it's way into the system, it's at the lever end. So you can just open up the port on the lever and get the air out, then seal it back up. Works with the Shimano funnel or the sram syringe. Quick and painless.Quote:

I'm more inclined to believe the reason there are bubbles in the system is they were not purged out last time the system was serviced, do it right do it once
I pretty much only do partial bleeds and my brakes work flawlessly.
Partial bleeds can be nice for when you wear one set of pads faster than the other but want to keep the lever feel the same between the two. Of course, then you have to remember that you added oil volume the last time you bled before you push the pistons back for a full bleed, and if you put on a fresh set of pads you'll have to relieve some of that added volume, but yeah, they can be nice for those with OCD on making levers feel the same.
I'm assuming this is that gravity bleed I've heard the Syndicate guys were touting.
It must work or a race team wouldn't use it but I'm not really a fan for a couple reasons.
It's actually an anti-gravity bleed. Gravity pushes air bubbles up, not down. The only thing pushing the air down is the weight of the fluid.
Without any actual pressure applied, it's very possible for the fluid to just simply slide past a bubble rather than dislodging it.
Also, the whole gravity thing is a good reason to stick with a bottom-up bleed system. There's really nothing more sure-fire than pressurizing the caliper and pushing the fluid/air bubbles up through the master cylinder. To those of us that came up bleeding with two syringes, the bleed funnel is a pretty idiot-proof advancement.

i settled on bottom up with a syringe on caliper and cup on the lever for SRAM cuz my universal kit only has one syringe but its pretty obvious if don't have something with a liquid level in it at the lever to keep the air out be it a syringe or a cup the air can get in
Xxx, you're overthinking this I think. SRAM is more of a pia to bleed imo vs Shimano. But at the end of the day it isn't rocket science and it's one of the simpler things to do on your bike.
Plenty of brakes can develop air in the system even after a "perfect" bleed that purges all air. Air can work its way in past seals. It's why shimanos develop their notorious wandering bite point - air gets in through seals in the lever. A partial bleed will usually fix it, at least for a while.Quote:

It's funny - I just had a fresh demo bike show up today with shimano brakes. Wandering bite point right out of the box.
Fucking equestrians. The tread is thoroughly fucked on a couple miles of trail from a few of them riding in the mud. They did it during the seasonal wildlife closure too.
