I don't know about beloved but I used to enjoy it. Shorter drive from my direction. Scenic ride right to Disney where I liked starting and ending my day.
Until my brake cable got frozen parked on that exposed lot on a wet and windy and and ultimately cold enough to freeze up day. Had to drive down about 1000 feet before my emergency brake released. I smelled like on of those rigs.
But that wasn't the gondola's fault.

I can't believe how good the snow has been the past several days. It's like the most hero snow I've ever experienced. It makes me feel like a good skier! Stuff with South aspect finally got wrecked but N is just incredible.

Glad Silvy is open but I agree this just shows that their excuse in previous years about not enough snow was just bullshit. Clearly they can open it if they want it enough. This should help spread out the masses this coming weekend (if they can open it after the storm, that is).
That was my first thought as well. Now there’s enough snow? GTFO
They get it going every year right around when the base hits 100", so no different this year. Even with all the rain down low, the base is starting to stack up on most of the mountain.
Maybe we'll get enough snow sticking to the backside to open High Beaver and beyond.
It was sporty over there yesterday. 4-6 inches of cold/soft snow over ice over a hollow layer. I would call it variable, but fun. Really great if you were the first line. They have already told us not to expect it to open again before the weekend. Boohoo. A proper pow day with Silvy is dope.Quote:

Weird they reported 11” to opensnow. Their snowstake looks like it went up to 8 and then went up to 9” after being cleared. It’s been heavy wet snow here on the west shore

KT off the schedule for today and Alpine on hold due to power issues. Just switched from snow to rain about 30mins ago near Tahoe City. Interested to see how things look tomorrow morning

I wasn’t suggesting he was wrong. Their reporting is weird. And their snowstake always underscores. And there was an hour+ in between.
Just got back from rubicon. The lower elevations were skiing much better than upper although I didn’t top out. The bottom 4” of the storm scares me

We are sitting at 2 feet at 7k. East side of Truckee. No rain here at all.
Headed out to clear the driveway again.
Got back from Sugar Bowl 30 minutes ago. Snow was cream cheese, but not wet. At least a foot when I got there at noon and filling through the day. Tracked snow was really choppy. Untracked was fun, but total leg burner snow.
The trip down from SB, after pulling two stuck folks out, was exciting. 80 was pure junk show. Spin outs everywhere. Plows going wrong way. 80 doing 80 things.
