Are they the ones renting your spare place??

I would just like to let you all know that when I tell my neighbors "it's hotter than a whore house on nickel night," they all laugh. Got any more of these sayings?
LOL! Yeah.. last Friday at around 4:30p they texted me to let me know the AC was out and the house was approaching 80 degrees. Great... it was Friday afternoon. I immediately called my service people - the ones I have a regular contract with for maintainence (also the same people I paid 12K last year to put in a new package unit in my house so I figure they should treat me like a good customer). They came right out (yes it was an "after hours call" with associated fees) and were able to fix it right up (fan went out and the motor burned out).
Dude didn't even say "thanks." I had to text him after the service let me know it was all good to ask him if he was cooling down. IMO I'm a pretty good landlord - I respond immediately regardless of the time of day or day of the week. They are a young couple and this is their first place away from their parents so they've never had the pleasure of knowing a shitty landlord. Not that I want an award or anything but a thanks would be nice once in a while. I suppose that is in the form of them always paying on time.
FYI - I've got two brand new portable Toshiba AC units that I could have given them to use until Monday. It wouldn't have cooled the entire place like the central air but it would have made it plently livable. He is aware I have the units for emergencies like this.
Dryer than a popcorn fart
No central air or heat here, about 1500 square feet, 3 BR, 2 baths, kitchen, living room. 5 window A/C units. Every summer one of them fails.... As the pandemic was ramping up and talks of supply shortages raged we decided to just grab two cheap window units to stash in the shed. They're still there. All 5 have been klunking along fine for the past 2 years. Not to last though it's in the fall when one will start to ice up at night telling me it's the beginning of the end.
I won't call KQ though.. I'll mount my own fucking window A/C unit.
I've been thinking about the projected 125 temps. Seems to me even with AC your house is still going to be in the 90s.
Maybe its time to start building homes with deep basements. Subterranean dwellings.
KQ, I'm headed out to Walla Walla for 3 nights Sat-Tuesday. It's my anniversary and my wife and I decided that after last years trip to Napa we owed it to ourselves to spend time tasting wine in Washington. Not sure what we were thinking getting married in August though. It's going to be hotter than a ... Hopefully the Airbnb delivers on the promised AC.
Jeezuz, projected 125 temp in Washington? Where are climate migrants to flee to?
So the future is in basement waterproofing?
I feel like this may be the beginning of the “why didn’t anyone tell us or do anything about it” phase of the climate change program.
Probably for some. Others are so entrenched they'll never admit humans could possibly have had anything to do with this. Did anyone else see the photos from the Loire in France this summer? Pretty shocking.

Thanks KQ, I think I've got the plan sorted. My parents used to own a big chunk of timber land up near Tollgate and I spent a bunch of time up there for a couple years when I was in high school so we're going to take a drive up that way and probably turn around at the old Tollgate ski area. If it wasn't so hot I'd be asking for hiking recommendations but as it is I think we'll just wine taste and check out a few of the good restaurants (Saffron, Ak's Mercado, Bacon & Eggs, maybe Hattaways on Alder or Passotempo Taverna). Between Hattaway's and Passotempo, do you have a strong preference?
/thread hijack.
Those are all great resturants. The only thing I might say about Hattaways is if you're going to sit on the patio it gets the afternoon sun. Brasserie Four has two patio choices and they are both protected by the buildings across Main street.
If you're not opposed to dining in the Walla Walla Steak Company has amazing food.
Don't forget to stop at Bright's Candies on Main - voted the best chocolate shop in the state! Also if you like ice cream Pine Cone Creamery on Colville is wonderful - had their Peach Cobbler ice cream last like and it was the bomb. Down the street from there is Colville Street Patisserie that has amazing gelato.
Covid transmission rates have dropped down out of the high category. Positivity rate is 9.3% but according to county health they are behind in entering negative labs so "interpret positivity rate with caution." Whatever that means. Mask wearing is very low here.
More nice weather 'round here. Supposed to be 80F today... not even going to close up the windows today. Enjoy it while we can.
Counter-gloat - Santa Fe Saturday.

Heat pump just installed and kickin 71F inside after another stuffy hot slog.
71 is livin the high life for sure. 77 is as low as I go on the AC. Only suppose to get to 74 today and upper 70's this coming week, so the "Burn" hasn't arrived yet.
Our window A/C units have remote controls woot woot!
I've resigned myself to the new normal.

Coil fan motor bearings took a shit thursday afternoon, swapped it out friday morning and checked the start capacitor, it was ok. Back in business with minimal loss of blood.
Ahhhhhhh
the fun never stops or so it seems.....
The Climate Prediction Center has issued an 8-14 Day Risk of Hazardous Temperatures Outlook for Southeast Washington and Northeast Oregon that points towards well above normal temperatures for the Pacific Northwest for the last day of August and the first few days of September. Currently at least a 40% chance of excessive heat is expected Wednesday through Friday next week with at least a 20% chance continuing into the following weekend. Long range models are forecasting temperatures of 95-105 Thursday and Friday next week. Normal high temperatures late next week are 80-88 degrees, so this would be about 15 degrees above normal. Monitor forecasts in upcoming days to see how this potential heat wave evolves.

Thanks for trying to jinx it. I like my breeze. Oops did I antijinx?
Right on schedule, September gets hot for us. Great news is October is right around the corner.
Boise is set to break the mean avg temp for August by 3 deg. That's insane.
The climate is f#$ked up for sure. All the hot weather in Yurp, drying up lakes and rivers world wide is kinda freaking me out.
° your area never had water to begin w. Putting cities in the desert, the chickens will come home to roost, or something like that.
Build a canal from the great lakes to Cali. Prob solved
A positive note - my new windows seem to be working as advertised... 90F day out there and the house is at a comfy 71F sans A/C.
