i can see that. at the same time, a hole in one has to be pretty exhilarating even if it's not as substantial as shooting 65 or something.

there's no shame in a hole in one at Greenlake CC!!! Did any rollerbladers stop to clap?
IIRC, #4 is the "long" one too!
nope, that's #5. #4 has the bench by the fence and the mysterious piles of sand to the left and long of the green... slightly downhill, dogleg - straight is a good term i guess...
Never.
Closest I've came was 12 years ago. I was playing a Mark McCumber course in FL called The Course at Westland. They fucking tore it up to build homes instead of building homes around it. I was pissed because that and The Champions Club at Julington Creek was where I learned how to play golf. When my grampa didn;t have the flow for me to golf at Champions (which was 80% of the time), he drove me to Westland.
I digress...
Was playing the par three second at like 6:30 in the morning by myself. Was feeling pretty good about myself coming off a par on the first so I pull an 8 to to shoot into a green playing about 160. Ended up skulling the shit out of it and it literally hit about 15 yeards in front of the tee box then started rolling up. Took my eyes off it since I figured I'd be playing a 60 yard second or something. Walked up to the apron and couldn't find it, then saw the trail it left in the dew. Look up and the ball is sitting three muthafuckin' inches from the cup with the dew trail making a bee line for the pin.
I still love telling that story A) because I was alone and it was a beautiful morning and B) it's still the closest I've ever come to making a HIO.
An alby would be cool, too.
Don't know if this really belongs here, but its pretty cool.

I've never had a hole in one but I've had an albatross which I wouldn't trade for a hole in one unless it was on a par 4.
Nutted my old callaway steelhead+ 5 wood from 238 on a 535 yarder
I've still never had a hole in one. THREE separate times I've had the ball come to rest hanging on the edge of the cup, where a single dimple more of rotation and it would have gone in. One of those times it was during a sponsored tourney and I would have won a BMW, so that really sucked.
I have made long eagle shots from the fairway on par 4's though - one from about 210 yards out with a 3-iron - that was pretty enjoyable but just not the same.
I've made 1 , 5 iron 185 yds flew in the hole .
The funny part is I had chipped in the hole before , the 16th then made 1 one seventeen .
One of the guys were playing comes over to me and tells me I might want let the guy I'm playing win the 18th , since he is the general council for the teamsters union .
Amended plans for weekend now include Gold Mountain but Trophy Lake was scratched to try out Avalon. Anyone played Avalon in Burlington?
practice helps. i had 2 pars and a bogey on the front nine today. also had a couple blow up holes, which are really easy on this course because out of bounds and lost are so easy. back nine i started to wear out -- i've been swimming a mile a day and trying to get into shape, but tramping around in the heat and the sun that just crushes me makes 18 still a challenge.
anyway, i'm playing or practicing every day and can definitely feel significant improvement. the guy i'm taking lessons from suggested i ask how much it would cost to buy the clubs i'm using and take them home, but i'm guessing they won't be cheap enough, plus $70 to fly them home, plus i have no safe way to package them for an airplane, plus, since they're rentals, they've probably been used hundreds of times.
so i'm going to make note of everything about them and hopefully i can find something comparable when i get home that isn't horribly expensive. they are definitely better than what i have.
this is to golf gear what tgr is for ski gear. ;)
Spook, I wouldn't even pick your other ones up when you get home. It may destroy all that muscle memory you stored up and you will be compensating for deficiencies that may not really exist. Find something similar ASAP upon return and use that.
you're losing yards with that R5 - you can get a R9 for cheap or one of the burner superfasts for even cheaper. (prices on ebay for r5's indicate its desirability IMHO)
which Cobra's? Current line or a few years old like the driver - IMHO irons havent changed as much as woods in recent years.
Putter = whatever floats your boat. I've resisted a fat grip for myself since my bad miss is a push while putting, (so I try to encourage more right hand to close the toe) but maybe taking the hands out alltogether would be nice?!?
i'm guessing that the irons are a couple years old, too. they're in good shape, but even at a club like this one, it's probably prohibitively expensive to import the best stuff for rentals. i'll ask the guy who rented them to me, but i'm not sure he'll know either. the grips are in good shape as well.
as for the putter grip, it's the first time i've used a fatter one -- it's not huge like the ones i see on tv, but it's definitely bigger than mine. plus the putter itself feels significantly heavier than mine at home and i like the extra weight. it seems to make it easier to slow my stroke down.
Got out to Lake Arbor this afternoon. Hit some great shots and even holed a few decent putts to shoot a 45-43-88. It's not the most exciting course in the world but it's fun nonetheless.
Only one shot of the course because it isn't very photogenic. Has nice flora though.

You gota learn to hit that driver .
Next time before you play go to the range and hit the driver of the ground with a 3/4 swing .
Then tee it up on the course and swing easy .
Sorry, no pics but Riverdale Dunes was in incredible shape today. Greens are maybe the best I've played evah (whatever that's worth).
Played a quick 9 holes at Blowing Rock CC in Blowing Rock, NC. Nice old Seth Raynor designed mountain course. -2 34, hit the ball pretty good for a change. Playing a tournament this weekend and I've had no time to practice other than today.
i turned the guy i was playing with and his caddy onto caddyshack.. they'd never heard of it. unfortunately, the caddy had heard of happy gilmore. i didn't have the heart to tell him i loathe adam sandler.
Definitely. I don't have your number. Send me a pm.
Hit the range tonight. Good feeling when you hit an iron nice and high.
went to hit balls at the driving range only to find out they close it every day by 3. that's crazy.
so it was late afternoon and i decided to play and nobody was on the course. it's always hit or miss if i don't get some range time in first, but i managed to bogey the first hole after a crappy tee shot that forced me to lay up. there are a lot of ravines on this course, so 10 is sort of like an island green. hit a 9 iron 135ish to 10 feet and made the putt for bogey.
after that it all went to hell. couldn't get my body to do what i've been practicing and it became increasingly ugly and frustrating. got 6 holes in before dark and was not feeling well physically or about golf. i've been swimming a mile every day after playing a lot of golf in the heat and elevation and woke up wiped out this morning and almost didn't go to the club.
in any case, i was pretty frustrated after those 6 holes and didn't want to waste the trip, so i went to my old standby -- practicing putting and chipping by ambient light in the dark. i usually play little games with myself, like i won't quit until i hole a 20' chip and a 20' putt. i really enjoy it.
i holed one of each after about a half an hour and figured something out about putting that i'd read about but couldn't understand physically. iwas excited about that but i also managed to find my zen space again after being really frustrated, so that was even better and i can't wait to get back there tomorrow morning for some more practice.
Yeah it can be tough to translate nice shots on the range to nice shots on the course.
that's good work to push through that on a bad day. That's kind of why I like 9 holes - it sucks to feel like you have to finish the whole 18 when you're having a bad day... also why it would be nice to be a member somewhere (like having a season pass for skiing) you can walk away when you need to and not worry about it. Also a good idea to chip and putt after a round, I'm always rushing off to get home and probably lose out on some real valuable practice time. I think you can really effectively practice out problems when they are fresh in your mind, so I hope to do more of that...
^^ pretty solid , need a 4-ball partner ?
