^^ Looks primo from here.
^^ wow earned indeed! it would have been an impressive enough effort if there'd been a dinner/hot tub/room/car ride home after the gruelling ride to the mountain.
happy birthday harvey and all-time props to mr ripitz!:yourock:

It was my first time meeting him, and he is quite a character. He has been riding his bike for 7 years, no car in that time. He commutes 20 miles to work every day, regardless of the weather.
He posted a cool piece on our front page about bagging (bushwhacking) two small peaks on opposite sides of the Hudson using a paddle board to get across the river. At the end he was paddling down the river to his (friend's) car, by the light of the moon. Unreal.

He took this pic while paddling:

Stories on the lift at Belle dropped my jaw. He said, "Hey man I'm 50. I got to get this shit done, it's not like I got 20 years."
I used to coach at Rose before the chutes were fair game. We used to rochambeau to see who poached and who drove the getaway car on the last run of the day. I once kicked one off in the chutes that ran and partially covered the road. I about shit my pants. Luckily, the getaway car was parked on the right side and we booked it back down to Reno asap. Have fun, stay safe!
Anything going to come out of this possible snowstorm next few days?? Debating last min trip to Killington, not great lodging options and hard tell if it’s worth the crowds for the limited terrain…. Story of the season this year I know

should be ok on the north coast
probably not even
That's really too bad. The chutes are what makes rose great skiing. Hopefully chutes open while you're there. Word from a fellow may that just moved away from the shithole of reno is that rose hasn't been getting the chutes open regularly for some time... like seasons. I really hope they open while you are there. Possibly the best combo of vertical, pitch, and crowds in the Tahoe area. Was our home mountain for a winter.

currently big puffy snow flakes falling in the champlain valley
Hey Harv, I realize that I miscredited Laps photo, glad you figured it out.
Patrol was busy from first light shoveling hydraulic fluid contaminated snow into bags and sleeping them down. Surface Whore texted that he heard yelling whilst on the lift, they lost a sled and it zoomed down the hill into some trees.

Final check around 2pm just before opening the trail. I passed as the grooming didn't look so great

Even getting out late there was still some fresh left to shred

Other than the heavy chemtrailing it was a beautiful day to be out on the hill

They were blasting the chutes yesterday afternoon with hopes they could get them to release so they could open them today. Not looking great. I got two of the best days of skiing in my short young life yesterday and Tuesday. They opened zephyr late yesterday and that hadn’t been touched in a week. It was unreal good.
I have this morning left to make some turns and the temptation is real on the chutes. Well, was real until I saw the crown line in the zephyr bowl on skiers right of the lift, so just about same aspect of the chutes. And that 3’ crown line that is 200-300’ long is enough for me to smarten up. Whatever they got to go yesterday in zephyr was huge. Pretty sure it was delayed opening because they needed to remove all the trees that came in that slide yesterday morning. It was pretty impressive. Ski Patrol was stand on the top of the chutes yesterday afternoon and it was constant bombs every ten minutes from 12-2pm.
but to speak to lift lines…. Skied on the lift for the last two days. Played at squaw on Friday, I’ll never go back during a storm cycle or if the wind is blowing, place is useless. Alpine meadows was Saturday and Sunday. Base to base was closed for the millionth time since just opening because of wind. Alpine still had crazy lines but it was the weekend, the skiing was great. Wind had a bunch of upper stuff on hold as well.
Rose delivered. Not only did they get almost twice as much snow as north lake, but the wind protection seems to be a little better for storms coming from the west. Not to mention, 8260 which is the base of rose, is just about the top of palisades.
la reserve raised their midweek from 15 to 25 this year, but it could be a good option soon.
vallee bleue is pretty fun for 22-27 midweek.
those are the cheapest and most interesting midweek hills in the laurentians if anyone wants to dirtbag for 1980’s prices.
neither have a lot of vert but i’m always entertained for a day at least.
Was it just one winter? Yes, I think a few hard lessons were learned over the years. I've set off 3-4 solid slides...had my spidey senses go off once and did a ski cut jump and set off a monster that would have done some damage if someone was below me...lost a pair of poles in another one I set off in Nightmare. Alas...off to Jay for the weekend Crap
Get some Joey!

Just because I have no skiing plans, but Bridger Bowl at $70 has to be one of the best deals out there. At least the ice was good enough to skate on past few days
buckethead - fwiw i pay $34 for the 3-10pm shift at jim. peak.
I will definitely be joining you for few of those this season once this plane gets off the runway..
That $40 at McCauley appeared to have a nice yield Harv.
