sugar bowl got the most snow from the early storms, the ones that stuck around and consolidated into base. maybe a little more protected from the evil E as well.

PM Sinecure -- I don't know whether he has space, but if he doesn't, he probably knows who would.
Indeed -- good to make some turns with you on my first day back.
There was a surprising amount of visible slabbing and cracking under the Red Dog lift, presumably due to windloading.

Sugar Bowl was likely the only ski resort in Lake Tahoe that actually had a natural base of snow covering its mountain slopes. That previously existing base gave the 22 new inches of snow something to sit on top of and gave skiers and riders a bit of a buffer from the volcanic rocks, stumps, and logs beneath the snow.
I think they probably figured it was too windy to run much else. Shirley would've been nice, but I have no idea if they have guns on it. It'd hard to run it without a manmade base. Maybe groomable now.
Not making excuses for the lack of having Alpine open. Although there were fewer people skiing than I thought there would be. Lines were manageable.
Welcome to CO. That's what happens when you get nothing but light dry snow and persistent wind. The light snow is more easily blown about and the dendrites are more easily lifted into the air to have all their limbs stripped and get packed tightly together. I also wonder what difference a base would make.
For those of you who had to work, babysit etc. like me and are still in the bay, come by Albany beach today at Golden Gate Fields for some beacon practice at 11:

ah balls...I would have come over but have a gnarly final due tomorrow.
Rode the Funi up for a lap on Gold Coast today, and they were blowing Mountain Run like crazy. Not sure why they weren't able to get it open this weekend, but oh well.
The line for Gold Coast was ridiculous, but the snow was really nice -- I didn't hit a single patch of ice, unlike Red Dog and Gold Coast.
Looking at the models today I'd say the persistent drought scenario is winning. I'm even starting to lose motivation to ride and I haven't had one day on snow yet. I'm actually more interested in going on vacation to somewhere tropical. Maybe January won't suck but if I could bet on snowfall totals I'd be betting the house on the under for the rest of the season. I wish Vegas offered those odds. It'd make for a really nice hedge! :)
Thread is reinforcing my decision not to buy a sqalpine pass this year. Hope we get more snow so I can take the sleds out before I bail for chamonix for the majority of the season. I love Tahoe life but I've given up hope for Tahoe winters
I'm blaming it directly on carbon dioxide emissions and chemtrails ;)
How dare some conspiracy theorist come on here and babble and math, chaos theory, natural cycles, and sunspots.
goood! everyone can go home now, ok?? Tahoe has and always will suck. The mountains are flat and the snow never falls.
Who needs Vegas, gotta brokerage account?

See that?! For those unawares, Mokelumne is in the Alps. French for endless deep snow. Book your flights now!
Impressionnant, mes amis!
Way to get after it fellas. Looked like a fun day to me.
It's a lot better then you would think, my son and I sent yesterday skiing shin to kneedeep powder all day without hitting bottom once or rocks, I won't say where though.

ah man that looks good - love the moonlight shot.
Squaw was still fun on Sunday, but seeing that video I'm kind of thinking I should have headed down to CPSR. Nice.
CPSR
Work that can't be done from afar just cleared out for the next couple days, so I'm thinking about heading to SLT to go meadow skipping/low angle/no base gouging. Anyone have any interest? First tour of the year and getting over a cold, so I'll probably be dragging ass. Possibly Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Likely have to head back Thursday night.
Here's a recap of my incredible weekend.
Friday- Arrived at heatless ski lease. The last renters or cleaning company turned off the heat and left us with an internal temp of 40 Degrees. Water in the sinks worked. Brought the house up to temp by saturday morning with fire and the furnace.
Saturday Kirkwood- Good day to get some turns on the low angle stuff. Hit some rocks and stumps, but nothing major. Cold as shit. Went to Monte's for a Hot Chocolate, and was raped. $5 for a 16oz Hot Chocolate. I guess Vail is sinking their teeth in.

I've got no issue supporting the local hill, but this is a little much. Looks like 7800 will be the call moving forward. On a positive note, I highly recommend the Blackened Shrimp Quesadilla at The wall Bar.
Saturday Night- Frozen pipe in the upstairs shower burst…..raining water through the mail level to the garage. No water for the night. Proceeded to use Hot Tub Water to flush toilets.
Sunday- Skinned up the road from Red Lake towards CPSR to check out the coverage and snowpack. 24" roughly. Found a small spot to dig a pit. As soon as I stepped onto the slope I heard a loud Whump. Shooting cracks 15' in both directions. NW Aspect at 8500ft. Immediately turned around and went to the car.

Did a few laps at Kirkwood on Sunday afternoon before heading back down the hill.
Weekend Failure, or Success? Ready…..GO.
I'm probably going to get some shit for this, because I have been duped, and because it probably isn't.
But, can anyone tell me if this is in Tahoe??
