Kartel 116 in moderate resort pow (<12in?) How much float compared to wren108? Lookin for a fun ski, not necessarily more ski (wren114) if that makes sense. I know erryone and their mom'll say billygoat, but I'm not sold on the res for wind buffed bulletproof traverses above the goods

I can't chime in on k116 having not skied mine yet, but I expect them to be a bit more piste / hard snow friendly than BGs while retaining comparable float (and since mine are custom stiffer, i hope that they punch through variable snow as well as BGs too, though the wider tails might slow things down a bit). W108s float pretty damn well, but sporting a very similar rocker line with just a tad more length in the back (with a deeper rocker line) k116s could be a happy go-between between w108s and w114s. While the statement seems a bit off - I mean, how can a 116mm ski be a go-between between a 108mm and a 114mm ski? - the idea is more that Ws are a bit all speed all the time, while Ks are a bit more playful and caters to more turn shapes, and while being chargy for that type of a ski does not have the same punch through whatever as BGs or Ws. As such, you will get more float with k116s, but not necessarily "more" ski in that you have to charge or go mach loony all the time to get the most out of them.
K108s might be good option as well - they are very good at a lot of things, even if they lack a bit of the punch through stuff ability of w108s and BGs. K108s being touted as a west coast quiver of one is not marketing jibber jabber - it is fairly accurate. :)

I owned the first gen 191 BG and currently own the Wren 98 and 108 as well as the 193 Supergoat and 191 116 Kartel... I am not quite sure what you are asking, but the 116 Kartel is by far one of my favorite POW skis that kills it in the trees and is a breeze to ski... No doubt it does not ski crud like the Wren 108 or SG, but it is no slouch... It is so loose and flots like a champ... I am no jibber nor do I ski switch or nose butter, but it is just flat out fun...
It skis very differently from the Wren as you have to ski it more centered, but you can put pressure on the tongue of your boot... I got the SG in std layup as I wanted more of a fun POW ski that you can drive rather than a crud buster (my 196 Bodes ger the call for day after and busted up snow - reminds me of my OG 112 Wren)... I def prefer the BG in wide open terrain and clicked with it on my first run... I will say this, if you are skiing heavy PNW dense snow the BG is second to none...
I guess in short if you are asking if the Kartel kills it in POW than absolutely it does and is a blast... And if you have not checked it out Blister did a great write up on the 116 Kartel and compared it to the 114...
Just as some background I am 6'4" and 205 lbs and a former racer so def liked traditional skis and mounts... My all time favorite skis were 191 Katanas and 192 LPs and no doubt is one of the main reasons I absolutley love my 196 Bodes... With that said i did not nor do I have any issues moving from them to the Kartel...

My ON3P order history is long and distinguished. I have gone back and forth from the BG to whatever is the wide jib/pow ski.
Obviously the BG will always be superior in crud, and trees as well as having a higher top end. But the current Kartel 116 is no slouch. And if I did not have K108’s, I would probably still have K116’s. But I have always enjoyed BG’s too.
I still own the 186 Viciks you sold me... They have been sitting since I purchased Wren 108s... Have close to 150 days on the Vicik and the ski will just not die...Quote:

FWIW i did just procure a w108 to daily as well, and have last-gen Caylors as my soft snow ski. former DD was an old cochise. i ski more directional/charger but prefer the playful & more balanced feedback in soft snow.
Powtron showed me some footage in pow that convinced me to stick with the BG, maybe he will chime in? Essentially, the skier on the goat was tucked and low and in an athletic stance. The skier on the Kartel looked more centered, upright, balanced and as cool as any bro waiting for the bus.
I demo’d the k116 on a firm day last spring. Much easier and intuitive to drive the tips than on the BG.
For a quiver of one to go under the shift, I have a hard time imagining a more versatile or fun ride than a tour layup k116. I felt like I overpowered the 186 kind of easily (even at 6’ and 165#). BG is definitely a more powerful ski. I would go 191. Don’t need more skis currently, but perhaps that’s my next On3p build.
That could truly be a quiver of one. And it wouldn’t do half bad going switch or saying hello to the park.
what's the word on last year's C&D? How would it compare to something like a Rustler 11 (besides obviously being 9mm fatter) or 2019 Spur? Do they ski long or short?
C&D is pretty different than the Rustler 11, and I’d still say a significantly away from the Spur. Having never skied either Blizzards ;)Quote:

I've been using the 10/11 (I think?) 186 helicopter BGs as my inbounds pow ski for a few years. There's a guy selling 2015 186 BGs w/ RES on GS - how do the 2015s compare to the 10/11? No complaints about my current setup, and I'm not too concerned with hardpack performance for these, but I haven't bought a new pair of skis in a while soooo.......

Wow. The pictures on ON3P's website do not do them justice. They're beautiful! The the tips and tails are a mix of rich goldish orange/burgundy and give the appearance of having depth to the artwork. Almost like a mosaic? Sorry, I know nothing about art so forgive my amateur explanation.
This is my fourth pair of ON3P skis. I know they are consistently praised for the quality of their skis and customer service and this story doesn't need to be shared to convince any of you "regulars" of that, but when I receive exceptional service I want everyone to know. That level of hard work and attention deserves rewarding and if I can convince just one person to go with ON3P, I will be happy. I reached out to ON3P via Facebook messenger, explaining my son's abilities and stature, and the desired performance of the ski. They responded the same day with a detailed explanation and suggestion, which is what I went with. On the same day I placed my order, Powtron called. He knew that I had previously purchased the Charlie Murphys for my son and wondered if I had made a mistake when choosing the sweatshirt size. I confirmed the size and boom, five business days later the skis and sweatshirt arrived.
Anyway, sorry to take a step down from the expert ski discussion taking place, but just had to share.
