Ability level won't matter. I suck and I cry. We can suck and cry together.
Rideit, I like the idear of jerseys, but beer mugs facilitate the consumption of beer.

Rontele, I get the feeling youre a masochist. :D I also have the feeling you dont suck. Shewt, I havent done an epic ride in... say 10 years? Back in corrrege we did a loop around Blue Marsh in Pennsyltucky--34 FUCKING miles of mostly jeep roads. BenWA loved it for some fucked up reason. I, on the other hand, have never done an epic ride since.
Do most of you guys know eachother? I dont wanna crash a bro's party.
jerseys sound cool. Beer mugs are also cool, although I do most of my beer consumption out of cans.
Little rideit is swimming in amnionic fluid, currently.
The thing is, you'd think this is just rideit's internet-speak/spray. But, well, he really does talk like this in reality too
I'll do my best to plan my August trip back to SLC so I can at least run up to Ideehoe for a day or two...I wanna shuttle the pass! And hell maybe even suffer a little bit, although the last 'epic' I did was 30 or so miles in the Sierras last year. Can't even fathom more than 35.
5 fun hours.
Bumped to 7 hours, you're going to see a lot of dick-swinging. I seriously doubt that a lot of people can hang for 7 hours on technical trails at altitude. But that won't stop people from denying that they're bonking, just to seem more like a core rider.
Don't invite trouble. Make it 5 solid hours of fun.
I say this after experiencing a ride last summer with a guy who lives in SLC and skis on the patrol at Snowbird. He was here in Missoula working on a fire crew. We took him on a classic fairly tough 7.5 hour ride in the northern Bitterroot Mtns and he was really, really destroyed. I was riding broom wagon to keep him with the group. He stopped having fun at around 4.5 or 5 hours and from there he was just in agony. That's not fun for anyone except the masochistic and sadistic.
Just my thoughts, maybe I'm underestimating the burliness of people's respective fitness and abilities.
Cool, the nice thing about the route that I have in mind is that everyone is committed for 4-5 fun (there is some hike-a-bike, there is no way around that in the big holes!), and then there is a perfect bail-out...If any monsters want to do more, there are three more hours available right there, with NO hike-a-bike.
Section 1:
Mahogany-Relay ridge-North Fork Canyon Creek-South Fork Canyon Creek-South fork Horseshoe.
Section 2: (which we will all ride the day or two before)
Choo-Choo (new!)-Channel lock-Sodbuster-Cody's-probation-bumper-sharks belly-bovine.
There will be a test!
Bumper sharks sounds sweet. :)
I have a serious problem putting the terms '5 hours' and 'fun' on an XC ride together...
Let me cabin my agreement with Crud to the extent that this gathering is designed around us having fun. I agree with him that I would be disappointed if this turned into a dickwaving contests (I won't participate because my 18 inch cock will embarrass all of you). But that being said, I like the idea of puhsing my physical limits and it sounds like rideit has a ride planned that can encompass that.
rideit,
do you have any photos of what the trails are like in the Big Holes and the Pass? purely out of curiosity.
The 5 hr plan sounds great. Besides, if the group gets big enough, it'll take 7 anyway. Just plan the first two, then have a menu of options for the rest, you know, after the measuring and swinging phase.
http://www.anthonysloan.com/i7/badger07.jpg Hmm, I am sure we can come up with a few...DeepSquat, do you have any cherry photos from your times here?
Give me a little time, AnthonyS has some great ones....

I'll try and come up with a few more...Anyone have good Teton Pass DH (lithium, Jimmy's mom, Crater lake) trail photos?
Or for that matter, Phillips, blacks, ritalin, skullfucker, what have you?
Now that I think about it, there is also one other perfect 'option B', after the first major climb (Mahogany)...an option that no-one would regret taking, FWIW.
It would cut the Mahogany-South Fork Horseshoe option to those two trails, which is a local's favorite ride, all by itself. Killer singletrack, period.
Then the 'bailout' (read, normal) riders could progress on to the Horseshoe loops, If they like, which has a dozen options, all tons of fun!
Plenty of incredible singletrack for all, without any silly commitments.
No dickwaving issues here, folks.
Afterwards we can (and should) all roll down to the Royal Wolf for beers, burgers, pool, and whatnot, in shifts.
Hopefully no measuring and swinging, but if Rasta Matty joins us, bring the yardstick!
Those photos look pretty fucking tasty. I am already uber excited.
And fyi, I have to wear manpris when I ride or it sticks out from the bottom. :fm:
Also, bike wise, I am thinking that there are probablyh not buff singletrack to warrant dragging all three rigs, probably just going to bring the 6.6 and Dirtbag?
This is THE LOVE, right here:

(fixed it for you)
RT, the Horseshoe loops are buff enough to enjoy on the Moots, but that is really the only area that it would be advantageous.
Save the extra room to bring some other Front Range Maggot's extra bike!
(I ride them on an NRS, but only because I live here, and I own one)
There would be no reason NOT to just ride everything on the 6.6, we are not racing. There are plenty enough stutter-bumps and log hops to enjoy the benefits of a bit o' travel on all of our trails.
The Dirtbag will be perfect for the Pass shuttles, of course!
(That shit is BURLY, I currently don't have a bike worthy of the trails, working on it....anyone want to buy a fat pad in Teton Village? Or Teton Valley? Anyone?)
Hey that looks just like Colorado Springs riding...

Yeah, but here, we just think of it as a cross country trail, and don't wear pads! (heh...) But then again, that's why DeepSquat calls me 'walk-it!'
This sounds awesome. I am in.
I'm most likely in. And any mags coming in west of Boise have a place to refresh here in town on the way. Jackson's about another 5 to 5.5 hr from here.
That sounds right, except I believe it will be through the 12th, which is the weekend of the Targhee Bluegrass festival. Anyone disagree?
The lineup this year is sick, and there are great trails just outside of the venue.

I vote to do the kick-off weekend be the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I have to return to Denver after then and won't be able to stay the entire week.
Hmmm. maybe this will be a two part, two weekend summit.
Interesting.
Rachel will be eight months preggers, so I imagine we will need a few days solo inbetween. 3rd, 4th, 5th, CHECK.
10th, 11th, 12th, CHECK.
Sound good?
Did we decide on a weekend, rideit? I still vote for the first weekend in August despite the bluegrass festival being the following weekend.
Sounds good.
yeah, fuck the bluegrass festival. Rush is playing at RR on the 8th.
1st weekend for me.
