That's pretty much the coolest toy ever.
So, who else is riding tomorrow? Motionboy may make a showing. Bagtagley? A last gasp for Jayfrizzo? Bueller?
Can't wait to see the stuff you get out of this. How loud is that thing? I predict quite a few people freaking out once you actually start following them.
Yes, but I am considering buying an electric of the same size. Only drawback is very expensive batteries and short flight times (10 minutes). But 10 minutes is really plenty of time per shoot. You just need multiple battery packs to be productive.
The electrics are VERY quiet. Just blades wacking in the wind and the sound of the electric motor. They are also smoother on the vibration issue. Less tuning, etc.
I'll be there to spectate and maybe hit some jumps for fun....but don't put me down for the athlete list. I just wanna watch and I wuz going to be there anyways.
Game on.
Just did a test flight. No vibes. Heli running good. Remote downlink is ready to go with sun shade.
Not sure how long all the batteries will last on the accessory stuff, but should be long enough to get plenty of shooting in.
I'll be there around 5 or 5:30 tonight.
Cool - I'll try to be there by 5:30-45.
I'm afraid I'm out for this one. I've got a sick-gnar, extreme birthing class to hit up tonight. Should be pretty intense.
I'm looking forward to seeing some footage, though. Also, anybody I-Streeting other days this week? I need to get out.
Damn radio that controls the camera mount was acting on it's own, so it was not usable. I did get some basic footage that I will post tomorrow or the next day.
Today proved that it will take me several more months to get dialed. Both in flying and all the electronic stuff.
In due time.
I couldn't figure out how to ride until you guys left anyway, so it's all good. Good to see everyone up there and cool seeing the heli fly!
Wow. That's pretty cool. Talk about an expensive project! Good luck on debugging it. Sounds very complicated...lots of variables.
So I admit, I am a helicam ship groupie. I rushed home, grabbed the dog and the camera, and flew up to I-Street to watch it fly (watching guys jump bikes farther than I'd ever even dream of was also cool, by the way).
A few pics from tonight

The heli is very cool to watch fly, and I like the pink styling:

Very cool stuff. I am glad Mrs. Trackhead is very understanding, because I can't wait to see what you can do with this baby in the future.
Gawd damn! I look like a typical RC geek now. Looks like I have a big ol' beer belly. I just might, but I think tomorrow morning will take care of that.;)

Particle, are you in Columbus, or SLC?
Or Both?
Isn't your wife doing a residency, or something? I am confused!
Not at I-street proper, just simple stuff for my inferior flying skills.
Frame grab of Long Duck Dong slutting, and risking life and limb for the flying machete.

Don't get your hopes too high though. To be honest, I thought this day was never going to be discussed again. , fun morning anyway.
Damn that entire peanut gallery was maggots?? Crazy. I saw you guys hitting the XC-follow cam, LDD looked like he had rocket boosters on his feet - don't think I've ever seen a bike go uphill that fast!
JoshP - your heli and biker shot is me.
W - I'm in both places at once ;) I'm in SLC through next week, then I'm going to be about 80% of my time in Columbus, but still back in SLC for around a week each month. Will probably leave a bike in SLC for playtime :)
Short, low rez, 6.5mb, windows media, 2 minutes.
Still a little wobble in the camera mount at times. No cameraman cause my system isn't dialed yet, so tracking subjects was a guessing situation. Repetitive riding by Long Duck Dong, thanks, I need practice tracking. Haven't ever tracked anyone until yesterday.

Nice! That thing has some awesome potential. I'm impressed by how steady/little vibration there is in the shots...
Cool vid.
And holy crap, somebody's been doing some digging at I st.
