Just another Idea for Raising Money, a local cyclist got hurt pretty bad with no insurance, so they started the Falllen rider fund, http://www.fallenriderfund.com they had a few group rides in which they raised a lot of money. One was a ride in Jim Thorpe PA which is famous for sick single track, although a lot of it is now shut down, the locals led rides of epic proportions on there reserved stashes, some of the sweetest single track i have ridden to date. I think we could put together a Fallen Skier fund site.. and do some similiar stuff with bike and ski events... Id be willing to put the site up and get it together. Thoughts???
Oh they raised an ass load of money
Some thoughts
(1) we are coming up on a holiday weekend. Lots of peeps are taking off for vacation.Maybe plan on getting this rolling like July 6th or so.
(2) gear shipping...It seems to me that a large part of the proceeds are going to be eaten up by shipping first to a central location and then to the buyer. If at all possible, why not have the donator ship directly to the buyer, providing a tracking #. If payment is made through paypal, I'm pretty sure there is some protection for the buyer. Plus, maybe alot of donators will eat the shipping thereby sweetening the pot or maybe the seller will offer to split shipping costs.
(3) maybe have some regional coordinators to call the donator after the sale has been made. If one guy is doing this it could get overwhelming.
(4) take a page from ebay and put a" buy it now option" on all gear.
When you have all the deets, make an official Sticky thread, please. I'll do whatever you guys decide, with whatever logistics are easiest. I can donate gear, or money, or whatever - just make a new thread, por favor, when you decide.
Good thought mrw, keep em coming!
Agreed. Let's use this time to spread the word and find gear to donate.Quote:

I don't have a strong opinion on which website is used, I'd lean toward my home away from home - TGR.
I'm in with some cash (payment sent to Natty's PayPal account) and I'll donate whatever I can. While centralized shipping makes no sense, a check and balance system to confirm payment prior to shipping seems elementary enough. Just thought I'd say it outloud.
As I See It: Here's where we stand.
- Donator Ships Item. Perhaps we'll set up a follow up system so we can assure goods get delivered in a timely and fair manner....though I don't think we'll have any problems.
- Looking like people would rather have things listed on TGR or Ebay. To keep fees minimal, I vote TGR.
- Wait until after the holiday. DONE. Only thing that would happen before the holiday is what I'm about to say below.
- I will start a new thread outlining the details when we get them ironed out here and will make it sticky.
Hmmmm, I'm in for the paypall gig cause Nils is da man!!!
As for donating gear, my gear is barely worth shipping. I beat the shit out of everything I own, therefore I would feel guilty if someone actually bought it.
Hang in there mang!!!
B)
Sounds good bro. Thanks for stepping up, getting involved, and helping to keep things moving forward. And thanks again to the generous maggots who have donated to my paypal--keep it coming!
edit: I would be happy to act as the central collection point for funds from the auction winners (paypal would probably work best), send out checks to the donators for their shipping costs if applicable, and then get the accumulated money from the auctions and the straight-up monetary donations to Nils.

Hells yeah!! I think it would be fine if you just selected some of your favs or if you made the auction a "buyer picks it from your collection" sorta thing.Quote:

setting up the auction on TGR and using paypal is a much better idea then Ebay. Ebay sellers fees are a bitch, and everyone is still covered with paypal. Ill start looking for gear to donate, im sure I can find something. Hang in there!!
It is my favorite all around ski EVER.Quote:

Also, what about throwing a bar party to benefit Nilz? I've done those before in NYC for leukemia fundraisers for TNT, and each one has raised over $1400... basically, it's a $10 cover that goes to the cause, and then a 50/50 bar tab split. You have to do it at a bigger bar/club, and the majority of people are happy to donate to the cause... and the "regulars" don't even know that it's a fundraising party. Just a thought.
I think the laptop would be great, very frickin generous of you tacoma.
Start with a minimum bid and if nobody bites, no worries.
Thanks a lot everyone, the donations are rolling in and I think this will be a big success when we put it together after 7/4!

Don't need any gear and don't have anything worth selling (shipping from over here will be more than what it's worth)...
Def set up a paypal thingy
I'll throw some prints of some ski action in.
FROZENWATER - Let's get a sticky going so people don't miss the opportunity to donate stuff for the auction and/or to donate money once this is all finalized........cause i completely missed the memo....didn't even know the cancer came back.....
I am putting together a new thread that will detail where to donate $$$, and how to go about getting your goods up for auction.
Stay tuned all, watch for a new thread. This will rule!
Sidenote: peeps may be away for next week due to July 4th holiday (I know I will be...w00t!!!) so pleez keep this going into the week of the 10th or let us know a paypal acct where we can send a contribution b4 or aft.
Tanks!

Guess we're keeping it going until after the fourth :)
I just spoke with Jason Levinthal over at Line, he's sending some stuff over, not sure what yet.
I will donate some original art prints too.

And the Tele-Ullr poster from this year's fest.

You know you will want both!
^^^ Nice prints, Doood.
Just waiting for a proofread on the kick off thread, then I will post it....
Thanks to everyone helping out...let's keep the enthusiasm rollin!
We really need to get in touch with one of TGR's moderators (Frozen maybe?) so we can get things sticky when we need to. I'm hoping that at the VERY least we make the auction threads sticky....that is if we can't get them to make a seperate section for it.
Like justcuz said, we are actively working on the auction thread and other details and will get it up as soon as we can. The thread will include everything you need to know, so stay tuned!!
There are many people working behind the scenes to make this a big deal, thank you all!
And keep the monetary donations rolling into my paypal account--

i have a really cool & quality Pabst Blue Ribbon dart board that i know the mags will bid well for. i've got a few Guinness t-shirts, PBR tin signs and a PBR hoodie, also.
Nice work, dudes. I have some gear to donate, fo' sho'.
With all this donatin', we need to make sure some of the people are actually buyin', too...

Seriously, guys, you don't have to do this. And yes, when AC called me yesterday I nearly cried. The last two weeks have been an emotional rollercoaster for me. I think I know what will be happenning to me soon, and there is a very good chance that I won't be skiing in South America... this year:cussing: I'll inform you guys of my plans tomorrow, today has been a long day of woorying, talking to doctors, and travel.
And I like the idea of fundraising at a bar... if the fundraiser is for me can I have my bar tab taken out of the proceeds, or do I have to pay up like the rest of you?
And how come anyone hasn't offered to auction off naked pictures of their sister yet? You guys are slipping:biggrin:
