    another plakespear fundraiser?

With plakespear's new diagnosis and what is sure to be a tough fight ahead, I was thinking about starting a new maggot fundraiser for him. Defray some costs, help get him to chile, whatever he wants. We could use my paypal account and I would be willing to collect checks, cash and then get the ducats to the man.
    Discussion?

Sounds good, does anyone have any ideas for an event that could be done to raise more $$$. It's great that the maggots are willing to chip in but it'd be even better to get him some $$$ from the general populace.

I've got a simple idea... have TGR get some of their stickers back up for sale. Hell, right now I"d be willing to pay $5-10 for one of them, and I'm sure others would too.

How do we work it--should everyone auction off/send out their own gear, but have the $$ go to one person to get it to plakespear? Should we organize the gear into one big list?

A fine idea. I'm either in with gear or to buy stickers.

Natty...we have a ski bag, tee shirts, and a pair of decambered Bros to contribute. Make it happen.

I think the paypal option is a great idea, that way he can take that money on his SA trip. I'm in for $$, I'll give it to you when I see you this weekend.

I don't want to see a situation where some a$$hat puts up gear, gets the money, but doesn't forward it or pockets a percentage.

I think it'd be easiest to send the gear to one person who's willing to arrange shipping to the winning bidder. This eliminates some of the hassle and also ensures that all the $$ goes to the cause.

    OK
My paypal is LMP at gorge dot net, so let's get some funds rolling in that way.
If there is consensus that viva's idea for the gear auction is best, I would be happy to have all gear sent to me and take care of shipping it out.
I would do all the logistics through PMs, to avoid throwing my name and address on the intraweb.
However, I'd rather that people post pics of the gear themselves so I don't have to deal with that.
If someone can think of a better way to do the auction, post it.
To get the ball rolling, I will be auctioning a like-new pair of hart phatbacks (like the atomic powder ride 130-104-115) with like-new S900s AND (drum roll please)...

a twice drilled pair of 190 Nordica W105s, no bindings!

    Let's make this happen!

Um, maybe get backcountry.com to host it?? they did something like this when the wife of an employee (was it Kelly, Kerry Gennerman or something? i'm sorry- can't remember) was hurt overseas in an accident.

I'm throwing these out as teasers if we go forward with the auction, so no bidding until then:

Once-drilled 190 cm Launchers (teal, from 3 or 4 years ago) currently with S912. Stupendous shape-only used a couple of times.

Stockli Scott Schmidt Stormriders, 186, drilled twice. These were demos at Shasta and only used a few times when I bought them. I've since demonstrated that I suck too much to be on these skis.

Wooky Shovel pack, used a few times until I found a ski pack I prefer. Comes in wussy fucla baby-blue.

Garmont AT boots in whatever size I am. Back later with specs.

Flynn wants to be me, I'm so in. I'll figure out some gear and/or cash when the plan is sorted out.
I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.

This may be stupid, but here are a couple of not very well thought out options.

    1) Everybody send pics and descriptions of gear to one person (I would be willing to do this). I'd put up the auctions one by one either on egay or right here in a thread format....just like PM Gear did with the last pair of Bros. I would likely advertise at sites like epic and ttips, too....just to bring awareness levels up.

    2) Send me yer shit, let me know how much the shipping was. I'll get pics together and descriptions. We will start the bidding at your cost of shipping it to me, and when the auction ends I will send you a check for the cost of the shipping and send the rest to the fund. I guess this makes it a little easier for those who want to donate gear to an auction, but eats into the margins that we would be giving to our ill (but kickin cancer's ass) friend. I will keep very good track of everyone's shit on an excel sheet and if you're worried, we can have a back up person keep track of me keeping track. Last thing I would want is someone to think I'm steeling shit from charity...

By the by, the donating gear thing could generate some decent money and spread the stoke at the same time. So far I've seen; lawnchairs, stockli ss's, 190 W105's (or something like that)....

justcuz, in the 2nd option I think that the person should just ship straight to the person who won, less $ for shipping, more $ for fundraiser. I'm either going to buy something from the auctions if theres something I want, or donate some money through paypal.

That gets us right back to option number 1 which is..... The current owner takes pics and sends them to me along with a description and I'll get them into an auction of sorts.
