It's 4:15pm and DUMPING in Reno. If it dumps in Reno it means there is a huge amount of snow falling in the mountains.
This weekend Squaw and Alpine open.
I called Rose...probably this weekend.
I'm off Wed so maybe Borreal will open more slopes.
Yes, but imagine a billion more rocks and much larger airs. In other words, that with about 10 feet less snow. Then you have 666's playground.Quote:

300 feet of sheer vertical terror from last weekend in NC

I think I remember you saying you're staying at Heavenly correct? If you're just skiing the Heave, you probably don't have to bring rock boards provided you will be sticking to what's open (ie. trails).Quote:

November 28th - 6:18pm - still snowing in incline and no signs of letting up.
RAD!
The stoke factor is climbing as fast as the snow level in tahoe right now!
I just happen to be staying near Heavenly because I will be in South Tahoe. That is just my central location. I was hoping to go to Kirkwood, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, and Heavenly. I know most people on here don't like Heavenly but I want to check it out at least.
Rock ski will probably ski be in order. Particularly, if you want to go off piste.Quote:

At alpine 60" mid-mtn base is a good rule of thumb for the whole mtn to be open and have good enough coverage for your good skis.

That looks like one of the best terrain playgrounds I've ever seen.
My friend called me after picking up his squaw pass this afternoon. I could hear the excitement in his voice. Mainly when he was saying "I'm excited".:the_finge
Snow melts on the east coast, evaporates, and shows up in Tahoe. I guess thats how it works.
If there a good sunny day while you are out, you should do a day at Heavenly for the views alone.Quote:

I know how you feel...at least you only have a relatively short time left to go, and there will be lots of skiing to be had when you're back. The best I thing I learned from last year that kept me sane was rather than checking the boards, or conditions, or weather, etc...I hit the bike trainer, or the free weights, or went for a run...something to keep my mind off what I was missing and keep it on how ready I'd be when it was my time again.Quote:

7pm and still puking. I forgot how much I hate shoveling. Let's hope this is some of that nice sticky, icky and lays down a good base. Plus I want to session the shit out of early Oops and LC again. Kirkwood is so awesome early season.
Telenater, I have a doctors mandate to sit on my ass for another month or more too....
That said, I cannot keep off of here....which doesnt help.
Anyhow, know how you feel. We'll be up there soon enough...

A bit more snow and some crazy stuff is possible through there. The little chute looker left, below the mini pine, fills in just enough.Quote:

What StormDay said. Heavenly was the first Tahoe mountain I skied, and we were just astounded by the views -- because it's on the south side of the lake, it seems like just about every run gives you a postcard shot. However, that was the first and last weekend I skied Heavenly, mainly because (a) the crowds reminded me, transplanted east coaster that I am, of Kmart, and (b) I truly hate Route 50, and my wife hates it even more.Quote:

And Squaw has this absurd policy of refusing to distribute a true trail map -- instead, you get a lift map. Compare Squaw's official "mountain map", which is virtually useless, with the "aerial images" map, which actually lists, you know, trails. It's 10 years old, but that mainly means that some of the lifts have been replaced -- the trails are still the same. The company that made the aerial map is DeNador Marketing Design, out of Sausalito.
Me, I'll be at Alpine Saturday afternoon and Sunday with my kids, picking up our passes and getting in some runs. Today, we watched the snow on the webcam on my phone and repeated our mantra: If it's raining here, it's snowing in Tahoe! (And right now, I can vouch that it is, indeed, raining here.)
Welcome...you will soon learn that early season Kirkwood off-piste is akin to dirt skiing....even after 200 inches.Quote:

Holy shit! This thread came out of nowhere. I like.
In other news, got some screws taken out of the leg today so I'm good to go (just about).
Bring it!
And by the way, the doc kicked down 100 Vicodins! I don't know if that was a mistake, but I didn't say shit. I guess that's what you get when you tell 'em your pain threshold is a 3 on the scale of 1 to 10. (Note to self: next time tell 'em 1).
