Head IM88, I ski the im85s which are good on crud, not great on groomers. From what I have read, the 88's hold a strong edge, and you get the width for everything else. If you just want to rail groomers in Michigan, go with rc4 wcs.
Volkl G4/724 AX4/whatever they're calling it these days. If you're only skiing one ski, you're going to want something that'll take abuse a bit better than the foam core crew. Decent floatation, great stability, plus it can carve on piste like a champ. Put a freeride on it if you're into it, and you've got a pretty damn good quiver of one. If not, I'm with AjaxWSP on getting a two piece binding.
enjoy!
Now the Volkl Vertigo G4 is the same as the Volkl G4/AX4's? I have awhile trying to find a pair online and it has been very hard. The only pair that I have come across so far is this:Quote:

The only thing I am worried about is whether the 168 might be too short as I am now riding a 174. But that is an awesome deal for the 168.

also look for volkl g40 or g41 all the same thing @ 178cm
Would anyone who has skied the Volkl G4/AX4's care to comment what they thought about the ski and if they would recommend it?
The G4 is one of the best skis ever made. Stiff, stable, and bombproof. Do a quick search to see what people think of them....Quote:

Second the opinion on the G4 and its many different names over the years. Great all mountain ski that can take serious abuse and not go soft after 30 days. I think it belongs in everyone's quiver.
yes, yes - the G4...
In all seriousness, the G4/40/41 is a siiick ski, you will love it.
bandit b2 or b3 might work
So did the ski progress from the G40-41-4? Also how much forgiveness do these skis have compared to others?
What length would you guys recommend for the G4, I ski a 174 now? Go smaller or larger?
What did I say earlier in the thread? Hmm? Oh yeah. The AX4 (G41, 40, 4) is my everyday ski. I use 178 length. Handles all conditions, I mean ALL. I switch to my powder skis with over 12" fresh. (but that's just me) There is a reason everyone here is telling you to get this ski. Don't listen to those people telling you over 80mm waist is too wide for groomers. With the right ski, that's BS. Volkls rail the corduroy.
The only other ski I found comparable was the 8800 (not the 8000).
Go find a Atomic R:EX in a 177. That will do everything you want.
How tall are you? I'm 5'8" and skied 178 G4s and G41s.Quote:

go 178+ for sure.Quote:
