Are you guys making fun of my old age? If I want to be treated like that I'll talk to my wife.
Hoping to talk her into camping next week btw. Helpful suggestions would be helpful.

Petey, I think you and I are in the same age bracket.
Maybe offer your wife a "soft" introduction to winter camping, like a yurt (several provincial parks have them) or a cabin like the ones at Arrowhead or Mew Lake in Algonquin. Limberlost has some small cottages but they are $$$.
I finally went for a tour in the back 40 today. The quality is lovely and fast but it is still low tide for tree skiing up here.

The dog poached my line at Secret Hill.

But I managed one decent turn, in between rope wrangling. She can't be trusted off-leash in deer country.

Always bring a saw! This is a nice one, and very light, check out the Yuka 240 from Suluk 46. Made in Ontario! Flagging tape added so I can find it in the bush.

Great to get outside!
Great report! Love the pics and the dog - must take some quick thinking to ski trees with a dog on a rope!!
My first day on the slopes will likely be Dec [emoji638][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]. It’s my birthday ([emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]th), asked my dad ([emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]) to take me skiing wherever is open for my present, he immediately obliged. Time to get waxin’ I suppose.

Edit: Jesus Christ the server box fan must me crapping out.
That is, December twentieth, and my birthday is my fourth fifth, and my pops is seventy six and still skiing like stein eriksen.
She's a trooper. Many nights in cabins and yurts but still willing to tent it. Pinery is an hour away with hydro on each site during the colder months. Good for an electric heater in the tent when needed but with a good tent and sleeping bag the camp season is quite long.
My lawn is starting to poke through with the rain today and i don't feel like getting the klister out to hit the local park. A drag after the snow that fell last week.
BTW, that face pic below is almost my doppelganger.:D
Yeah, a bit of a warmup here and some freezing rain. Good for the base building.
Doppelgangers unite!
Looks like potential for another lake effect blast up in Huntsville & Collingwood.
Also looks like I’ll be out sliding on snow I n some regard on Friday the [emoji637][emoji639]th.

Boler opens at 16:00 tomorrow. I'm not anxious...much.
MSL Paulster?
My kid has an appt. at 2pm so I gotta say local, so a few runs at GE it is. Saw a screenshot of an employee memo saying they plan on opening this Friday, then a teaser update on the 'gram later on last night. Of course this is all only if I have the balls to call in sick tomorrow am.
Coverage looking good. This is the earliest opening I can remember:

We drove by there on Sunday and it looked bleak. Good to hear that they open tomorrow.
Off to Boler shortly and glad to have a hill within ten or fifteen minutes of home.
And let me know if you need me to call work for you. "This is Paulsters dad calling. He is not feeling well today and will not be at work." :fmicon:
Took the call from the car in the parking lot, then snuck in some laps. One lift open, one run open. But, best run I’ve done all year so far and the vibe was good. People are happy.

Nice to be sliding on snow again.
Nice! The smile says it all. Happy Friday
Kudos on your first ski!
Saw a youtube video of some rowdy lads ripping up Limberlost this morning. Not a bad start for that hill.
Managed to get my pic in the local paper. Keeners gonna keen. Looking forward to skiing in the sun today.

Nice one!
I remember hiking and hacking plants on those lines back in 2023. When they mentioned skiing the cliffs I thought, 'don't do that!'.
Headed into Arrowhead on the 5th and hope the rain doesn't cause a problem with the snow pack before we get there.
Boler lost some base but still soldiering on. Doesn't look like a great winter again for xcountry but thank gawd for fake snow.
Out at Mount St Louis today with my dad. My 45th birthday today, he’s 75 and still crushing it. Did the math on the lift today - between us we have 100 seasons on the slopes! That’s a lot of turns (and money)!!
Decent snow, great if you remember it’s not even Christmas yet…

Edit: Can someone please go whack the server? Looks like the tubes got messed up again…
Not going to quote that mess Paulster but good for you skiing with the old man. Only ever skied xcountry with my pop. Got a pair of his old metal edged sticks hanging on the wall. He gave up downhill when kids came along.
Christmas Eve ski was great! Good snow, good vibes, and kids are getting in to the hardcore ripper age.

Was at Blue Mountain On Christmas Eve and Day.
Usually by first run or two I'm back to last year's form but admittedly I was skiing like hot garbage the entire first day. Complete with full on dragging poles for balance and a pretty decent fall that I'm still feeling. Maybe an age thing?
Snow was great and lightning fast. Glades looked promising but had some bare spots. Pedestrian areas were slammed but the slopes were pretty empty.
A little bummed to find Jozo's has gone all out peak village pricing. I was never a regular there or anything but always got the sense they were proud to offer slightly better prices than the immediate alternatives. Best fries I've had in ages though.
A holiday themed window display I can get behind

Line up for the coaster. Never seen it like this before! It was longer than pictured as I was trying to position myself to give the folks some privacy.
Attachment 508589
I don't generally spend much time in the village but it sure looks great this time of year

Smiles all around!
Awesome!
This thaw suuucks but should be short and polar vortex for most of January. Fingers crossed for a snowy month.

Nice pics of Blue. Sounds like a fun way to spend Christmas.
Glad I bought some extra Goretex when it was on sale years ago. Quite the rainy morning. Add in a baseball hat under the helmet for cleaner glasses and I should be good to go. I've had days like this when you're the only person on the lift. Snow should be soft but even with the heat yesterday it was fairly firm. Chem in the snow pack?
The future looks bright and a polar vortex will be welcome.
Paulster2626 - hey if this mild spell means we get to skip our seemingly yearly January thaw we get I'll take it.
petey_ It was nice, but not my ideal place to celebrate Christmas. Had to sorta go with the flow on this one. Chem in the snow pack? Yep https://www.nbcolympics.com/news/sci...inter-olympics
I don't mind rainy days on the hill at all. Not going to spend the whole day out there but single lifts are nice.
Any reports from the Limberlost get together? We had a cabin at Arrowhead earlier in the week. Skating track was closed so we got some x-country in. A bit crunchy with dirt and sticks poking through in spots. Still fun. Meanwhile, I get reports of snowmageddon back home. Ontario weather is blooming unpredictable other than the fact we'll get several rounds of rain during winter.
Off and on bits of fresh snow on the hill have been sweet. Fast concrete this morning and flat light.
Guessing that the Barrie/Collingwood area has decent conditions.
‘Twas a fine day for a tour of Limberlost! on Saturday Once the late arrivals trickled in, there were 15 folks in attendance. Snow conditions were great for touring, less good for turning. I'm having Internet issues, will post random pics later.
New snow incoming this week, should improve things big time.
Edit: I'm lazy - check out photos here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/wwhsta
I know it's technically Quebec but Mont Chili is so much closer to you guys living the dream out west. Hopefully they get that t-bar firing a little earlier this season and with enough warning for a nice Ontario/Quebec maggot crossover episode. I've been talking about it for enough seasons now.

I don't think Mont Chilli is close to anybody on this thread, seems these guys are in the 'skokes mostly
I gew up skiing Devil's Elbow... I see it's closed - what's the story ??
yeah. i don’t think it’s close to anyone but it is north and west of ottawa.
I'm in Ottawa, Mont Chili has been on my list for a while.
Between having a kid in ski racing and the weather in recent years I haven't been able to make it.
Some day.
My long-time ski partner Telemark Dave and I headed to Limberlost this morning with the dawg. There's a bit more snow but the woods were still a bit sharky for we old guys. We had an lovely tour up to the cabin, down the super-fun Ascension Trail, and up Buck Lake back to the car.

Enjoying the photos. Maybe this current weather system puts a cover on the sharks up there.
Spent a night in the tent at Pinery. Planned to check out the old defunct ski hill there but 4 inches was not going to cut it. Forecast had a bunch of snow hitting that area but it was mostly rain. The four inches was two when I left there this morning. Redeeming part of the trip was one of the best sunsets that I have ever seen. Have to download photos from the camera to post a photo.
Light snow on slush at the moment. Should be concrete at Boler tomorrow morning.

@ Petey: things are improving gradually. This morning there was another 10 cm of dense, wettish snow, good for consolidation. Now a deep freeze cometh. Scouting reports indicate decent conditions for Twigfest in February and the river crossing is solid (as much as a frozen beaver dam can be solid).
I've only visted Pinery once and it seemed kinda flat, except for the dunes. No idea there was a ski hill there. Maybe it was on the same scale as the Drumlin at the U of Guelph, which actually had a rope tow. I taught a friend to ski there and he went on to become a longtime heli ski guide for CMH. Who'd a thunk it?
Glen Eden was okay Saturday morning in the rain. Kids weren't impressed but I told them it builds character. They still weren't impressed. Eventually the rain turned to snow as the temperatures dropped. First time in my life I've ever seen it raining at the bottom of GE and snowing at the top. What a difference 200' makes!
Everything is open and coverage is great. Finally a real winter.
