I used my Ikon at Snoqualmie and Alpental (Boyne owned) last year on weekends and had to make reservations. It never showed up as "full" and I am not sure they were actually restricting numbers in any way. It seemed it was just a hoop to jump through.
Counter that to Ikon owned Crystal, which had COVID reservations for everyone and weekends filled up a month before you intended to go.
Some of us live in ski towns so we can be 10 miles from the hill, but need to work 9-5 jobs to afford it.Quote:

Epic day pass sales will be down, it'll balance out industry-wide. But it will help VR lock in vacationers who might have gone to a non-Epic resort, and people who make multiple trips but otherwise might have gone to an independent or non-Epic area for one or more of those. Dropping the Epic pass price isn't about selling passes, it's about selling hamburgers and hotel rooms.
Down here in the sticks, we were slammed last year, but cruises weren't running and Disneyland was closed. We got a ton of fat lazy TX/OK/AZ beaters and ski vacation/cruise is kind of a toss up for them. So I'm expecting visitors to drop a bit, but counter that with reduced staff because the resort can't afford to pay people for the work they do. So, lines will still be largely dependent on whether or not they can manage to keep the lift running, as per usual.

I think it remains to be seen how many more people will actually turn up to the mountains. If they sell more, but a lot are to the casual meh skiers then the average days a pass is used will likely go down.

Doesn't matter. After my EPIC experience last year in the northeast, I'm never going near one of those hills. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty happy sales are up for them. I wish them all the best. More skiers there, less at my mountains.

Lower paying employers are hurting the worst because their employees left for upgrades. Is it sustainable long term? Will those workers and hiring businesses succeed and keep them or will they fail and go crawling back? Who knows.
I would venture to say, that if you took a poll of the maggots that live in mountain towns that they were not raised in, a large percentage of them will most likely say something like "it is what I wanted in my life, so I packed up and made it happen." Wife took a remote work job, I told my employer she got a new job in the mountains and we were moving, but I would like to stay on and work remotely. Sold the places in the city, packed up the kids and moved. Now both employed locally at the old 9 to 5....however, the 9 to 5 in mountain towns is not the same as a 9 to 5 in a city. Pressure is way less and flexibility is way more. Grab those boot straps!
Gotta ski on Saturdays because that's when the kids' lessons are. But don't worry I work around this by skiing somewhere reeeeallly shitty and we are usually outta there by noon when the crowds descend. Lunchtime tailgates are the shizznit.
Gotta use vacation time and $$$ to fly somewhere and make it happen for midweek goodness. Its okay though, it's the life I chose.
