What's the latest, greatest ski bag these days?

Patagonia just reissued the 190 Black Hole Snow Roller double bag. I've had one for years, but when they started again this year, I picked up a second one. It's light, durable, and waterproof and has been great so far. Favorite thing is the tie down hooks. So now instead of a ski bag AND a rolling duffel, I can save weight by using a non-wheeled duffel, and just latching it on the Snow Roller and just pull one thing to/from airport, etc. The bag is pretty stiff for a soft sided bag and retains it shape well too. But looks like they're already sold out of some colors, and they only sell them every so often it seems.

I don't know about you guys, but the airline baggage guys have destroyed every bag I've used after about 6-8 trips. From my perspective, all bags are disposable regardless of cost. Your results may vary...

Not sure if there available in the USA but I rate my snowkart zoom pretty well, takes anything to 205cm and hasn't got a mark on it even after two flights.

I have had a good run with my DB so far, it got dirty and that is it on the 5 planes it went on/switched between on it's maiden voyage. Delta doesn't charge for being over 50lbs on ski equipment so the weight of the bag didn't matter when checking it with them.

I just got the Dakine Boundary to replace my dbl concourse which survived 9 international trips. The boundary is lighter but is missing the interior tie-down straps.

This will be my 3rd season with it. Its seen about 10 round trip flights in the US and is still holding up well. The first flight it got a small cut through the side but since than its been great. I can fit 2 pairs of mounted skis or 3 pairs if one doesn't have bindings. The longest ski I've put in it has been a 186cm ON3P and there is plenty of room toward the top of the bag.

We have two and travel with 4 pairs of skis ranging from 160-196cm. As long as at least one pair of skis is all the way at the bottom of the bag they always had enough structure to not drag (even when overloaded with soft goods and avie stuff).

I’d like to see one made out of material similar to a Black Hole or Base Camp Duffel. I’d happily take the weight penalty for a bag that wasn’t thrashed after a single trip.

I have the same problem with my DB, the fabric needs to be burlier. The functionality of the bag is awesome, but I'm not sure that it makes up for the lack of durability. If storage is a concern then the DB is one of the best options since you can roll it up.

I'm using the douchebag too, and the functionality is awesome. Like others have said, mine started showing wear and tear way too early, and I'm honestly not sure how long it will go before exploding. Had to duct tape several holes after about 15-20 flights, but it started showing way earlier. This could ofc be due to some terrible handling by the airport personell as well.

I actually wanted to write a really good review here, because I "love" the bag. I want to love it due to the great functionality, but I'm in all honestly a little bummed by the quality. That said, I haven't seen any other ski bag I rather use. So when it all falls apart, next one will be a douche bag as well.

Just wanted to throw it in the ring as it seem really big (but a bit short maybe).

What's the verdict on Douchebag? I've thrown away my Burton bag that I've been using for several years and need something new. Even though I have snowboards I can go with ski bag just fine, but I need a long one (Hello swallowtails).
Besides DB, what are my options, Patagonia?

I think the DB is the best on the market right now. Mine is clearly showing signs of wear and tear after approx 25ish flights, but its still going. The functionality is best in the class IMHO and if I'm honest with my self, all the other bags I'm hauling around are showing wear and tear as well.

What's DB?

I've had good luck with my Thule single, but only two flights. Actually first trip was two flights. Second trip was non-stop, but then cab to train to cab. Not big enough for boots.

The Dakine Fall Line Double would work for that. Depends on how much other gear you're trying to stuff in the bag.

You will have a real hard time staying under the 50lbs weight limit with all of that, but the Dakine bag will hold it all

^^^Agree, but I think that would be under. We put 2 pair, poles, and one set of boots, and it was about 40,so we loaded up more. We use a bathroom scale. BTW, for our Euro trip we just did, the agents didn’t weigh our bags, (2 loaded ski bags, but 6 different flights). All just tagged them, then sent us off to the oversized area, and those guys just grabbed them or told us to put them on the belt. Alaska at Seattle, BA in Munich, BA in Lyon, BA in Heathrow, Alaska in San Diego, Icelandic in Reykjavik.

PMGear was the bomb. Mine is finally wearing out.
Dakine zippers keep blowing out.

Bought dynastar 2-3 pair bag last year.
Loved it so much I just bought another for 140 with the eBay coupon.

I just returned and was very satisfied with the Evo roller bag. It's based on the Dakine design but is less expensive and more readily available. One of the airports managed to put a hole in it, but I don't blame the bag. It looks like it got caught up in a belt or something and would've put a hole in nearly anything. 3 pairs of touring skis and poles was almost exactly 50 lbs. Between the scale and the oversized bag drop we snuck our boots in the bag too and it was happy to swallow everything up. Highly recommended.

I've had both the Dakine Concourse double and Fall line double. Concourse is built like a tank (mine got the back corner ran over by a SUV in the SLC parking garage , no ski damage) but weighs a ton on its own so tough to load up. Also it's pretty low height so less room to play Tetris with multiple pairs. And because of the height , after repeatedly putting in two pairs , avy gear, pack ,etc the zippers blew from being over stretched

The Fall line is way flimsier but way higher and between weight and size can accommodate a ton of stuff. That's my go to now

and this (have taken it on Alaska with two pairs of skis, poles and crammed it full of soft goods, think I paid an additional fee, but didn't care as it was the only bag we checked)

I have the Db and the Fall Line. The Fall Line can just hold so much more. I think the Fall Line is a great bag for the price, but I wish it was a bit lighter to fit a bit more gear before hitting the 50lb limit. I also wish it had gear loops on the outside to strap on a bag, but honestly anyone with a bit of sewing skills could do that.

I'd like to try the Patagonia Snow Roller sometime. My buddy has it and it looks like an awesome bag, but not sure on durability yet. It is also super lightweight.

The 190cm model is unobtanium if seeking new...

The ladies version seems readily available.

I mentioned in another ski bag thread that I once hauled ten pair of bros into vancouver airport in my pmg bag paying only a
$50 overweight fee. Unfortunately, those days are gone. I have an extra one with little if any wear and tear on a shelf in my garage if somene in reno/tahoe wants to make me an offer I can't refuse.

Has anyone tried these? Pugski seems to like Kulkea heated boot bags.

Thanks for this info -- was looking at this bag. $15 cheaper than the Dakine counterpart. And have an Evo store just down the street if I have any trouble. Certainly overkill for a trip with 1 set of touring skis and one set of boots, but what the hell.

+1 on Db functionality being great but durability sucking. Had to tape it after one flight.

Pro tip right there. The new evo bag is even better than last year's, it has molded semi-hardshell protection at the tips and tails and the 195 size is huge. Replacing my Dakine Concourse Double this season.

I hate you!!! You told me to get last year's, (last year). It went Seattle-Amsterdam-Lyon, Lyon-Heathrow-Reykjavik-Seattle loaded to 50 pounds with nary a scratch. Highly recommend.

Last year last year's was the best one, the samples for the new one didn't show up until July.

last year's is also (and was) $115 cheaper. New one (@$250) is pretty dope though.

Need some input on the evo from the guys that have one. Need to fit a pair of 181 msp 99's, wife's 160's, our poles and two pairs of kids ski's (80 and 67 cm for now). Will it work or will I need bigger?

I picked up the DaKine Fall Line Ski Roller Bag in a 190 in a hurry. The good; easily accommodates two pair of skis plus x-tra room for gear. The bad; no ski tie downs so if its not stuffed your skis will slop around. Also, seems like it is not the most durable but only one round trip so far.

I fit two pair of skis, four sets of poles, two sets of kids ski boots, two kids helmets and some random filler.

If you rubber band the bindings up, (to make it easier), that pile should fit.

Except you’ll probably be over 50lbs. At which point, it’s cheaper to use two bags.

Which of the current options will hold a 200cm DPS 138? My old concourse double "185" is maxed around 190. Can anybody verify that the Thule roundtrip fits a 200? Also looking at Dakine Boundary and North Face Base Camp Roller.
