My favs and some of these have already been stated:
China Cat Sunflower - Grateful Dead
Weekapaug Groove - Phish
Synpathy for the Devil - Stones
Lov'n Cup - Phish covering the Stones
In the Evening - Led Zeppelin
Lively Up Yourself - Bob Marley
Punch You in the Eye - Phish
Time - Pink Floyd
Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin
If you like song intros, listen to Osymyso's "Intro introspection".
12 minute mashup mix of a hundred or so song intros blended into one trip.
Surprising how many songs you can recognise based on the first bar or even just a couple of notes.

The intro to the entire 1st side of Santana's "Abraxas" album*.
* I have since re-purchased it on CD.

how about great beginnings to crappy songs?
I can't stand Billy Joel, but some of his songs have great intros. I hear them and think "hey this is nice" then they segue to a run of the mill crap BJ song
Quad City DJ's - "The Train"?Quote:

OK, hard to justify resurrecting this thread for a band that is probably the closest "real" thing to Spinal Tap, but I heard it and it seemed appropriate!
