I agree -- I'm super stoked on lots of the newer companies graphics out there.... The new Armada stuff is bad ass, the 4FRNT stuff is rad, the new Line stuff aint too shabby -- especially the Pollard Pros. And the K2 graphics have been ownerizing since Schmies and crew started doing them.

That's what I was trying to understand.... Its easy for people with certain agendas and biases to look at something and automatically assume a negative connotation behind them. ITS JUST A FRICKIN' SKI GRAPHIC. Does Seth Morrison want to Destroy people with his gun and bullet? No, he just wants to destroy the terrain, and schralp the fuck out of it.

i'm with DM's first round as well. these new graphics are a steep back for sure. i'd rather see a solid color background than type elements repeating themselves and worse yet blurred. and god damn it i am a graphic design professional so my opinion counts twice :rolleyes:

anyway you aren't gonna be going into full blown production for a little bit so take that time and get something really dialed. maybe narrow it down to two graphics that are pretty different then put them out on the board and let people vote.

and obviously just putting the graphics out on the board was gonna churn up some opinions so try to keep cool. you guys are doing a great job! it's a helluvalot easier to cap on somebody else's work than doing it yourself.

I voted 5, but I'd honestly rather have the yellow bomber. Awesome graphics, I gotta be with DM on this one. You've transitioned from a cohesive design to more of a generic feel. All are good, but you guys honestly need to make a splash with this first series if you want it to succeed. You need people to do a double take, which they won't be doing on most of these, since part of the FKNA will be under the boot, rendering it illegible. BTW, how late can we get preorders in?

I thought we agreed on Cheap Hoars as the name....I know I did.

I'd like to see some more stuff from DM as well as stuff from the collective. Seems like some more creative input could only help.

I just can't wait to hear the reviews after the Hood Mini. The topsheet design is secondary to me.

That's an interesting point about an image spanning the two skis. I played around with these "spanning" images a lot.

I think the FKNA should be super subtle both visually and literally. When the skis are placed correctly, and you know what you're looking for, you see FKNA. If you're not looking for it, you just see a random pattern (kind of reminds me of winter camo). Switch the skis and you truly have a random pattern.

I think twoplanker has it. #5 without the URL and binary code.

I voted for #4 but solely because I didn't want the URL on the back. If its small around the tail that's cool, but not a dominant part of the image.

Let me ask a question: I'm too close to this image now to answer objectively...

How obvious is the FKNA? When you first look at it, do you see letters or a pattern?

thinking about the FKNA in physical size i think that it's gonna take some time for people to see it. when the skis are switched so R is on the L it's gonna be totally confusing. plus add binders on top of it and it'll get more lost.

also i hate to be the one to ask this, maybe it's a way stupid question, but i'll ask anyway. i thought usually skis were made individually and then flex matched into pair. with that in mind (unless your top sheet is added after flex matching) what happens if you end up having two left skis that match in flex? again sorry if this is way stupid i'm just thinking of possible problems.

DEMOCRACY IN DESIGN SUCKS!

Have been working in advertisement/design/photography for the last ten years, so i have seen it up close...

I can feel DruggedMonkeys:s pain on this behalf.

Situation is very close to this : 40 cooks making the same soup, in evitably it will be uneatable. Everybody gets to participate and no one will like the final results.

The only thing that really ( from my experince) is to design WHO designs WHAT to WHOM.
Give the basic guidelines, let the professional to do the work, do the final adjustments, print the graphics to the ski, ski.

Art isn´t made in commitees.

This is a pretty sharp and simple design. A couple of thoughts:

1. Don't flaunt the "Bro" in that generic font, the original looked better. Oh yeah, can we see it (the "Bro" that is) in red (I want these babies to match my helmet)?

2. As someone else touched on, you can add a litle "PMGear" to the bottom (anyone w/ half a brain can google pmgear and get to the website) of the tail end; it'll grab attention in liftlines where a lot of people stare down and look at the backs of the skis in front of them...

i don't think that everybody on the board should get to play junior designer this time. let DM take the problem and work it into maybe two solutions then put those two out on the board and you vote one way or the other. no tweak that, change this.

FKNA is about as far away as you could get from ZEN

i agree w/ the 'chose the name then figure out the graphic' crew.

I'm really digging the latest revisions of the black FKNA model... But I feel the sharp contrast of the PMGear logo and the BroModel colouring ruin the beautiful simplicity of the black with faded gray.

So I think... faded gray on the tip logo, remove the writing from the tip, and then in the same style as the Made In USA on the Blue Bomber put the PM (Large font to go across the ski) and GEAR (in a slightly smaller font). Perhaps the font would be something clearly defined, but not quite so militaristic as the FKNA. Again, in a subtle shade such as gray. Kinda like this...

Or just the blue bomber. If you find that design at all militaristic with negative connotations, I think DM is right in the over analysis. Sure the bomb on the yellow has violent implications, but come on - have you ever watched road runner? The only problem I had with the blue bomber was the tip design - but I don't really like that on any ski (which is why I'm quite a fan of the Jaks' look). The base colour does draw me in, but of course we're not going to have that or a FKNA so that's a bit academic really...

I think if DM would be so good as to release a v.2 of his designs (preferably a bit bigger, a la this), and maybe even a v.3 then a solution which (almost) everyone will like can be found :-) I mean, as splat has said, there is a week or so's leeway in the design process, and art was never perfected through rushing, right?

the blue bomber is definitely a shock. Kids like mine olders (11-13) would kill myself to have a pair, and am sure there will be a flock like them. The blue bomber comes from a very, very talented visual artist or whatever you want to call him, and I must agree that the second series has less gut-impact than the second.

I vote for whatever J thinks is best.

I've managed and worked on enough creative projects to know that the only way to get things done is to have one person responsible for each part of the result. They are encouraged to take input, get ideas, be responsive, but at the end of the day, one person has to be responsible, and that has to be the same person who decides. And I can't think of anyone more qualified than J to make that decision.

But who makes the call for the graphic designer at PM Gear? I'm a little confused about who's running it, nowadays... Twoplanker is super involved, but I go to splats place, and there's 50 pairs of Arno Adam poles and a bunch of PM bags, and "his" guys are actually designing the skis. So who exactly is in charge? I'm sure this would help whoever hopefully gets put in charge of ski graphics design know who to answer too. ;) I agree though -- just hire somebody out to do a couple designs, and go from there. It's how most businesses do things, and for good reason.

Hmmmm, a big black fat ski. That's a really good idea. We should call it something cool like "gotama" or "tanker".

This whole design thing has been a joke. You can't be designing a ski before the people that need to make decisions will actually sack-up and make a decision with regard to names and the elements used on the ski. PM Gear needs to find harmony within its own members before looking elsewhere. The first design I spent hours working on (mudflap trucker girl, per Splat direction) got shot down before even getting to here. So to be honest...to have the most success and not waste the time of the designers involved PM Gear needs to sack-up and make some decisions WITH ONE VOICE as to WTF the ski will be called and the theme of the ski. Then you can go design. [/2 cents]

I'd be a little worried about 'bollock hangup' when exiting a turn with that ski. Everything else is just peachy though.

EDG, that visualization thing was way cool.

Now that we have $1.48 worth of people's 2cents, I am going to make it an even buck fifty. This round of ski designs I was not as happy with as the first round designed by DM. I think PM should have a sweet graphic to go with what we know is going to be ONE BAD ASS SKI. Sure you could make it a "sleeper" (mellow graphics and skis like a bad ass. But I think a majority would prefer to have it look AND ski like a MOFO. I want some graphics that are kick your mom in the face schweet to go with it. A name and a design theme would be a good place to start, then design with those parameters.

now, what length of these skis are you guys bringing to hood?

when it comes down to it I couldn't really care less about the top sheet(I ski Fischer 86's). this ski is going to rip regardless of what it looks like.
