4 yrs ago i did a week long road trip to inner-BC (the powder triangle of fernie/red/whitewater/nelson areas, etc) that is seared into my mind forever.....it pounded every day/night and i had the deepest days ever.....must...get...back....
1. Chamonix or Italy for sure next year's big trip.
2. Kirkwood
3. Crested Butte on a major pow day.

What's very much on my mind is putting together a list of places that I can ski in the backcountry all winter long. Of the places I haven't been already, east Vail.
Oh, and Utah powder calls...
1. Alps
2. Silverton
3. SA
4. New Zealand
5. Japan
Have been, but will return this year:
Crystal (most weekends)
AK
Nelson/Whitewater
Alaska
Whistler
Silverton
Most like done in reverse order.
Realistically speaking, next year I hope to explore the Wasatch back country with some of you TGR folks. And a trip to Silverton is definitely on my 2004/2005 list.
My skiing resume is sadly lacking, but here is my list
Resorts I will hit next year for sure
Jackson - only been once and it was epic
Grand Targhee - Never been
Teton Pass - never been
Resorts I'd like to hit:
Big sky
Crystal
silverton
Ok have to ask this;
PNW - Stands for Pacific North West????
Where is this, what resorts does it includeetc.
everything in oregon and washingtonQuote:

Is Idaho in PNW
I hate that term though because BC always gets lumped into the PNW. It doesn't mean anything to people in western Canada.
Resorts:
Baker
Red
taos
Horse
Bridger
Backcountry:
Some more of this:
San Juans:
http://www.whitrichardson.com/images...oname,vert.jpg
a little of this:
Oh Canada!
http://www.whitrichardson.com/images...-creek-big.jpg
and much more.
http://www.north-stars.org/skitrips/...d/Fjoll_lg.jpg
Is anyone considering Iceland? Looks really different from anywhere I have been before (not so many places, actually  )
Next Year:
1. Alta/Bird- sort of ashamed of my V card status given that I grew up only 4 hours away from these two...but i grew up in jackson so the shame isn't unbearable!
2. Interior BC- red and fernie for sure if both comps go off next year
3. Baker- spent two days hiking in may but know that there is SOOOOOO much more to explore.
4. South America- either Chile or Las Lenas after I take the bar next summer.
In the very near future-
1. New Zealand
2. Chamonix
3. Big Sky
4. AK
5. ANYWHERE WITH SNOW AND DECENT LINES THAT I HAVE YET TO SKI!!!!!!!!!!!!
USA Top 5:
1. Utah
2. Taos
3. A-basin (drove by it because I had free tickets to Vail, Breckenridge, and Keystone)
4. Jackson Hole
5. Washington (almost skied there, but wound up driving to Idaho instead)
Backcounty Top 5
1. Saddlebag Lake
2. Mt. Lassen
3. Virginia Lakes
4. Ellery Lake
5. Sweetwater Mountains (I can see them from my backyard, but the access is tricky)
Overseas Top 5:
1. Poland (My great-grandparents are from Zakopane)
2. Iceland
3. Australia
4. SA
5. Alps
It was even hard to limit things to only 5 in 3 categories. So here are the bonus runners-up:
1. Hawaii
2. Ruby Mountains
3. Canadian heli
4. AK heli
5. Lee Canyon
And there are always more...
1. Silverton
2. LCC
3. Baker (again)
Alta/Snowbird
Snowbasin
Mad River Glen
Smuggs
Solitude.
Should get a chance to ski all of them this coming season, at least all the ones in Ootah. :D
Utah '04/05
SA next summer
Europe after that....
for this season:
cham, but only if i can talk phil into taking me with him on his adventures.
kirkwood
chugach
silverton
interior BC
This season:
Bridger
Big Sky
Moonlight
Snowbowl
Lost Trail
And a ton of backcountry via my new snowmobile.
Whistler - especially with all of that new hike-to terrain.
Negative ghost rider, the patter is full with Oregon and Washington. No room for Idaho in the PNW.Quote:

Timpanogus - East Ridge

N. face of Lightning Peak
Cardiac Ridge
Nebo
Trackhead's Powder sled - to the Uintas. :D
Well, at least number one of these places vanished from my list this past year.Quote:

Taos (spent more time sitting in the sun than skiing - terrible season)
Niseko and Utah this coming Winter
Alaska Heli, SA and back to Europe sometime in the future
Only in summer... I wouldn't imagine transport would be very easy, but it would definitely be cool to have done...Quote:

Hehe, dunno - you can get pretty reasonable flights from time to time... but it's a long way to go for poor summer skiing :D
My list...
Nov, Lillehammer :
Not expecting too much snow, should make for a great weekend...
Xmas, Les Arcs :
Bit o' off piste exploring in a bowl I found (Can probably find it in search...) And the Aig. Grive (Pic attached) looks like it holds some nice runs (Green line is one I'm particularly interested in) Also some stuff traversable from the Aig. Rouge mid-station (Across the Flying Km, across the small U shaped valley and up/across onto the southern aspect, probably and early morning thing...) plus the many, many sweet little lines you can find around Les Arcs (Eg, take a left from the mid station onto Dou de l'Homme and after the initial dip [when you enter a flat plateau] hang a right. Steep, sheltered slopes that receive a nice bit of wind packing, where as the other slopes get scoured, plus cornices and billy-goat entrances for the more advanced than myself). It's really an unspoiled resource if you make only a little extra effort, at least later in the season.
Feb, Gressoney :
Plenty o' off piste exploring, maybe even some heli... First time there though, so don't know how much I'll get done. Spam's pictures were freaking awesome, and reports I've heard for others are similarly impressive, can't wait...
Easter, Mammoth :
Hoping to explore the top of the World. Last time mainly stuck around Lincoln and chair 9 when it was open (Lots of powpow, but the top wasn't often open). Some of the skiing around Hemlock seems quite interesting too. Maybe meet up with some mags if they're around...
Random possibilities :
Black mountains, maybe Snowdon (Though apparently infamous for avalanche activity, believe it or not) If there's snow around here, just going to have to make some turns...
Anywho, really looking forward to this season!
edg
I have only a few resorts left on my list to-do.
Priority:
Kicking Horse
Snowbasin
Baker
Then:
Crystal
Mammoth
1. Alta (should have this one finally on Dec. 17, 2004)
2. Baker again (where I learned to ski 25 years ago)
3. Whistler with the wife
4. Silverton (on the board)
5. AK or interior BC heli trip
I will ski the PNW this winter, spring, summer, and fall. Alpental season pass, but my skins and boots will take me everywhere in Washington.
If there is snow, I'd highly reccomend a trip to Kvitfjell (site of the DH). It's a fairly new resort, so they tried to be environmentally friendly when they built it. They didn't want to cut down very many trees, so the resort skis a lot like an old-school New England resort. Instead of fall-line freeways, there are a lot of narrow twisty trails through the trees (nice alliteration, huh?). The DH run is lots of fun too. There are a couple of roll-overs where you can get some serious hang-time, even at lower speeds.Quote:

Thanks for the info :) The plan was Hafjell (due to its proximity to the town + knackered from late arrival) presuming good snow, but the higher and more inserting sounding Kvitfjell does sound mighty tempting...Quote:

Road trip to at least Schweitzer and Big Sky. If there's time, hit Red and maybe another Canadian area on the same trip.
If I visit the folks over the holidays, I'll take the car and that means a Kirkwood, Squaw and/or Alpine Meadows drive-by.
Will try for Crystal a couple times or more. Been there twice already, but had horrible days- have yet to really ski it. Still haven't been to Alpental.
Never been but wanna ski (realistic can-do's) in no particular order
Tahoe area
Squaw
Bridger Bowl
The Canyons
Loveland
B.C. --
Loveland Pass (I've skied A-Basin)
Berthoud Pass
Togowatee Pass (driven a zillion times, never stopped to explore in winter)
Cameron Pass (again, been there but never skied it)
Rabbit Ears Pass (ditto above)
Wondering if you guys could possible work out whether this chute has a cornice on the top of it... Looks like it to me (Did a bit of playing about in the Gimp and there seems to be a lighter shade sticking out in the middle), but want your opinions :)

Talking about the one furthest left, which tops out in a notch between the peak and the tower.

Depends on the day and year. Judging by the huge cornices on the ridge behind with a similar aspect, I would bring a rope. You might squeeze under the cornice by hugging the rocks on the skier's left.Quote:
