I would be into this. I'm pretty shitty at the discipline and tend to (I think) overtrain quickly and get that constant annoying achy/sore thing going. I suck at getting swoll.
Help.

So.... wait a minute... can I still eat bacon on Sundays? C'mon Snow_Slider.... you know you do too.
So... snowslider, when do you want to start? Monday? And how long should we do it for?
I agree that % of body weight should be a good standard to make it a little more fair...
I aleady started, but i am up for some competition
I would be interested in joining the maggot-unfat-challenge.
I just started running again the other day, (thank god for daylight savings coming soon) and I have a 10k obstacle course race at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare training Center north of Sonora pass in May. So, in short I need to get un-fat. Or rather, un-sloth like.
While 10 extra lbs. may be good balast for skiing downhill faster :D it sure don't help with aerobic activity.
I hate this part of the season, yer body is sloth like but the shorts ans sandals are just around the corner, so I started to run... I also hate the part of the work outs where your body just rearranges stuff... the numbers on the scale don't change but your boyfriend starts complaining that the girls are getting smaller. I love how the body feels after you effectively take 5 extra pounds out of your backpack... I won't join up cuz I'm already mildly demoralized that after running steadily for 6 weeks I'm up 1.5 lbs this week... but my cloths don't fit well anymore. Any challenge that relies only on the pounds will make me feel poopy.
Good luck, I hope all come out smaller than they are and feeling awesome.

lets do four months, starting monday..
everyone who participates will weigh in on Mar 12. Then, we'll weigh in on July 12. % of weight loss is fine (or else i'll blow you all away).
we can have people who put cash in and are eligible to take the prize, and we can have people who are just casual participants.
we can keep track of it here.
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...cGyq-xGyY7miVg
if you want to participate, PM me your email address and I'll add you as a collaborator (so you can edit the spreadsheet with your info.)
The only question is - how much will everyone put in?
edit.. hehe, there are four months between mar and july, not 3. oops.
This will be cool! Thanks for getting this together steve.
I'll shoot you a pm.
I'll bet one hundred dollars. I weighed myself yesterday and I've topped out at 647 lbs. I'll bet I can get down to 180 in four months.
How did the dude at work lose the weight that fast and what method are you using for 40 pounds? Both impressive!! Especially your 40 since I am sure keeping up with the program for so long has been so tough. Congratulations.
I'm down 11 pounds since the first of the year by following a modified version of the weight watchers plan my girlfriend is working on.
Count me in for the maggot un-fat challenge. I want to get slimmed.
The dude at worked went to the climbing gym at least 5 nights a week, plus skiing and he ate really well. He cut out a lot of sugars and carbs.
As for me, I started out doing the South Beach Diet (yeah, I never thought I'd do something like that) to clean out my body. I ate veggies, cheese and pretty much no sugar for just two weeks. I then added back fruit and some grains and now I just eat healthy. I watch the carbs and sugars as much as I can, but I in no way deprive myself of anything.
Also, protion control is key. While I was in the beginning of that program, I was also going to the gym at least 5-6 days a week. I was really motivated to drop some weight. I don't eat any fast food, unless I just have to. I also don't eat as much pasta as I used to and I watch the sugars-no depriving, just not as much as I used to. I get to the gym for cardio at least 4-5 days a week now plus whatever skiing I do and make sure to lift weights at least 3 of those days. When ski season is over, I'll be on my bike pretty much every day of the week.
The bottom line is, you have to eat healthy and exercise, otherwise you will not lose weight the natural way. It's pretty simple.
This would be great for me, as I am a fat fuck. I must be close to 2 bills. I would love to drop 30. No more hot dogs wrapped in cheese, wrapped in bacon.
I'm game once this cast comes off. I'm in the worst shape of my life.
I did my intital weigh-in today. And took measurements. :( Will weigh again Monday.
I want to throw a measure of support behind everyone that is thinking about doing this.
For the longest time I have been on the opposite side of the scale. After a particularly grueling year in the oil industry 2 years ago at my smallest I was 178 and 6 ft 4.
for the longest time I struggled as to how to gain weight and lose fat efficiently. However I fnally deiceded that help was a good thing, I got a trainer and we have now been working for close to two months. You just have to make the commitment to go, even while tired, or sick or hurting just go. It will take time, alot of time and pain. You will put off hanging with friends, and drinking, and other things but you will gain self confidence and a belief that you can do things that seem impossible.
I have now steadily been putting on weight and muscle and feel alot better about myself from a durability and fitness standpoint.
So get out there and GET SOME!
Every time while working out remember the one time that you coudln't do something because you were out of shape. Maybe you couldn't climb the last 500 ft of the climb, or you skied like shit on the way down, or you just wanted to just go up 3 flights of stairs without breathing hard.
Remember though.....
Eating well and working out is what you need. Everything else isn't losing weight or getting in shape, it is a fad that you will grow out of.
However eating well and working out is a lifestyle change. If you really have a problem getting in shape go to your local 24hr fitness and get one of their 5 training sessions for 55 bucks things. Those jobbers are greatness.
Just writing this has me fired up to go off to the gym, so I am going to head there in a bit.
I love this thread!!! I'm gonna watch all you losers! :D
Like Erica, I expect to be doing a lot of moving in May - climbing. Dead weight will not be tolerated! :D
Somehow, I managed to put on 16 lbs between last July and this February. It can just creep up on you, especially when you're hiding in ski clothes and stretchy thermals every day. I didn't even know until I put on a pair of jeans this winter. Well, maybe I was just in denial.
So I've changed my ways and I'm halfway back to fighting weight, 8 lbs to go. Like altachic says, portion control and no empty garbage food (like sugar). For me, 2000 calories per day is a good limit.
Keeping a food diary is the only way to really know what's going on. Studies show that people that keep track of what they eat do a better job. I use www.fitday.com. It's free and it's easy. Please give it a look. You can run all kinds of cool reports to check your nutrition and tracks your exercise too.
Here, I made mine public so you can look at it: http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...oThinOrTooRich

Steve - I'll PM you...
Looks like Steve has taken the ball and run with it, so let's continue this in his thread: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=79618
I'm in for $5 and weighed in at 203 and 13.9% bodyfat. My goal is to get to 180 and 10% bodyfat by July. Intermediate goals are 195 by April 1, 190 by May 1, 185 by June 1.
Ran 6 miles yesterday and biked 32 miles the day before. BOOOOO YAAAAA.
