What happened to winter in Chicago?
What happened to building forts in the snow drifts, (I was also only 3' tall). There is no snow.
The maple tree and tulips in my front yard are blooming and it's Jan!!
Maybe the Gore guy is right?
How far north do we go to find snow...the UP, Canada? I was thining of starting kite skiing, but no snow!
I was depressed before reading this thread...
Now I am borderline suicidal.
My yard is greenish in January.
Since I stopped buying a pass a couple of years back, I'm not minding this at all. I'd normally be in serious misery.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a few hills disappear before 2007-8. It's been extremely bad. :(
I grew up skiing in Michigan and I know it’s difficult in the Midwest. We have so much snow here in Washington that my home ski area got closed down again (power issues) Its time to move, you will be happier and spend less time wondering what its like to have snow. Also I have found that a ton of great skiers come out of Michigan they seem to appreciate the mountains more and have good skills from skiing ice bumps. That’s what I grew up on and it paid off. So continue skiing the ice bumps when you have snow and then think about moving.
All you Mid West people are invited to come out for a week if you want.
Thanks for the offer. I was looking for med sales jobs today in the Western states. Wondering where the snow is, wishing I was in the mountains, has taken a toll on me.
I totally understand. Its amazing how much more effective I am in my work, and as a person when I am able to ski when I want. I think it takes a toll on a person after years of dreaming and not being able to do (it takes a toll on one’s mental energy/output). On the other hand when I was able to get out here I totally went off and love every minute of my time in the mountains. I just came up to Washington for a year for work and with in two weeks I hooked up with some great people to hang with and ski with. The TGR board is great for that. Put up a thread about looking for work you might find something.Quote:

One of my co-workers went to the UP - not just the UP, all the way to Copper Harbor - looking for snow with his son last week. Not a bit in sight, and we're talking about North of Marquette. That's nuts.
On the other hand, it's made what could have been a difficult transition from Utah back to the Midwest, very easy, since the climate here this winter has been close to what it's often like in SLC.
Models still show some very cold wet air next week, and it should hang around for a while...
One last thought. I know one guy from New York that makes so much money he just flies out every weekend. Thats not a bad idea if you need to stay.

God I hope that storm comes through other wise I concerned I may have to pull out the lawn mower if this keeps up. I'm planning on being at Granite Peak on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
What the Midwest lacks in skiing they make up with fishing and hunting though.
