A favorite workout for me are
Tabata intervals, google it for more on the topic. Twenty seconds all out, ten seconds recovery, repeat eight times. Can be done biking, hiking, running, swimming, xc skiing, skinning on skis, weightlifting & in combinations. A very efficient use of exercise time.
For example if I'm pressed for time on a hard workout day I'll warm up, sprint eight times twenty seconds w/ten seconds recovery & cool down = done in 15min. My favorite is to do Tabata sets in uphill trail running.
