you're forgetting the added productivity software that comes bundled on the mac. if you were to buy matching quality software for the PC (office, etc), your price would go up anywhere from $100-500.Quote:

i concur. i've been fooling around with a sample batch of RAW files i shot a couple weeks ago and i'm amazed with it. not too happy with how much RAM it likes to suck up, but there you go.Quote:

I've got one (replacing a 3-4 year old Ti PowerBook G4). What can I say, it feels like a Mac. Well thought out, all in a very nice package.
Things I like:
Automatic, backlit keyboard - great for working in darkened environments.
Two fingered trackpad scrolling
Things I don't like:
The power adapter (85 W) is now bigger and heavier.
Non-universal apps load (and probably run) more slowly.
modem is a USB dongle.
Most of my heavy-lifting is now done on Linux/Solaris boxes, so I'm really using this mainly for office productivity stuff. There is an annoying lag when starting up apps under Rosetta. I occasionally notice a lag when using Office (switching between windows, large selections in Excel) which I attribute to Rosetta as well. I haven't really tried any heavy-duty PhotoShop or video processing, so I can't really say how fast (or slow) these more demanding apps are.
Overall I'm happy with it. My G4 was starting to show many signs of its age, so the MacBook is certainly an improvement. It does feel a little bit like a lateral move instead of a huge speed boost, but I suspect this will change as Office and other apps are converted to universal binaries.
Once shit is universal that baby will fucking sing.

it also means that (unless they build a universal version of CS2 — which i doubt) pro users will need to plunk down for their new intel mac and then upgrade their software to CS3 to run universal. that is a lot of coin for adoption. apple is being cool with their 50 dollar side grade to move their apps to universal but i doubt adobe will be so nice.
