Wow... You're story sounds exactly like one of my friends from college. Even down to the magazine intercept and the fact they're both from MN. Only difference is she's 'R', not him.

Anyways, he's engaged to one of the bitchiest/sluttiest girl I've ever met (you know them crazy Minnesotan bitches). I'm not sure how it'll end up, but given the fact that there's no trust and really no relationship I'm guessing it won't be good.

I apparently warned him about her in a not so friendly manner when they first met, we got in a fight and thrown out of the bar we were at. Neither of us remembered, so it was all good the next morning. After that I've pretty much tried to keep my opinion about those things to myself.

Good luck, continue to be his friend and support him, should something happen once they're married.

I just read the rest of the posts and I feel compelled to tell my awful story.My ex impressed me with her USC degree and CIA job when we first met.I knew she was a control freak after I found out by accident that she ran a illegal background profile on me.I told her I wanted to postpone the wedding and she cried so hard that she ended up hyperventilating and collapsing .I gave in and went through with it thinking that things would mellow out after the wedding.She got worse after the wedding.She was a tramp when I married her and now she has gone the other way,a bona fide bible thumping born again who judges everyone except herself and cannot do any wrong.Again I feel sorry for your friend because life is so short. I am married again now to a Maggette who rips as hard as I do.Hopefully he will come to his senses but I doubt it.

wow TWINS, that sucks. I'd like to think there arent' really people like that out there, but unfortunately too many people have stories to tell that make me know better. Now I see it firsthand. Ugh.

R knows I think she's psycho. All I said to him was "has she changed since last I saw her?" "uh, not really." "ok, are you sure about this?" "well, yeah, I went back and forth for a long time and one day it just seemed right... " "ok, well, congratulations then."

He knows I don't want him, he's like a big brother to me. And he knows I'll support him if she's the one he really wants to marry. I just don't see anything but turmoil for them in the future, and I hate to see him stuck with that, but I can't do anything about it and I know that.

LAN, don't really get the seventeen comment... something derogatory, I think, but whatever. These people aren't 17, they're 26, and they're making a lifetime commitment which R will take very seriously.

I have a question. Why should you have to change who you are when you're around them? You're friends with R because of who you are, not who you're pretending to be when you're around the psycho. I know we all make sacrifices for friends, but sometimes when doing so we actually do everyone a disservice.

Every situation is different, and so maybe this doesn't apply. But it's definitely something to think about.

It is hearing stories like R's that often makes me wonder why, in light of completely destructive relationships that are soooo blatantly unhealthy, people think that marriage is the answer. I would like to think that if a guy I was dating were even half as nuts as R's fiance appears to be, we wouldn't even last past the first freak out let alone get married. Then again, maybe there are things that go on behind closed doors (like she gives amazing head and takes it in the ass) that none of the rest of us are privy to when making our judgement calls. Or we are right and R should run in the other direction before she bites his head off.

What sucks even more is when it is the good catch (male or female) who gets roped into this very bad situation. You hate to see it happen to the good ones.

But honestly, R's self esteem could secretly be so low that he honestly doesn't believe that he deserves anything better. Regardless, I like the earlier idea of filming some secret tryst and mailing it to her. The only draw back may be that she comes after R or you and goes for blood.
