i think the main factor may be age. i too (as did most) had several fb's over the years, mostly in college and direct post-college years (hey, boulder and sf/tahoe...good pickings!). but, now at the ripe old age of 33, most women my age are not too keen on the fb scenairo. they, if they are smart, together, attractive, etc, for the most part, are ready to settle down. not be some guy's fb....
but it can happen.....i was recently in a "relationship" with this great girl for a few months that i met mtb'ing, and i told her up-front that i did not, could not, get into a serious relationship at this point in my life. i had just come out of a 3 yr serious relationship, almost got engaged, living together thing until the biatch decided she wanted to date a mutual "friend" of ours who had been pursuing her, (behind my back...had no clue) for almost a year..........ouch. so, this new girl, i told her straight out, no relationships for me for awhile. and she was like "yeah, totally understand, etc i don't want one for now either" ......so i then get busy with work and travel and the snow starts to fly and i am in tahoe half the time (she is in sf), and she gets angry that i am not spending as much time with her, etc. so, the dynamics changed.....
possible, but not so likely if you are around my age i think.....
unless, of course, you go younger ;-)

good points on both sides here, though. definitely agree that most girls are "wired" differently, and may tend to get attached easily, but that doesn't mean there aren't opportunities for the fun (re-occurning) romps out there, and girls shouldn't be ashamed of it either.
like someone else said, it's all about timing, too. I just got out of a long, long, long-term relationship too... no interest in getting serious with anyone anytime soon... but hell, even the ex suggested I find a FB too for a good distraction;)
