To answer the OP's question, these activities promise the the unadventurous the opportunity to purchase a simulation of adventure- like a roller coaster, only more naturey, and therefore more appealing to yuppies who hold certain types of experiences as status symbols.

Classic TGR thread. Toss out something lame like ziplining and watch all the livin-the-dream bro-brahs out-brah eachother on how lame ziplining is and how core they are. Surprised no one has mentioned that they only zipline if they can skin to the top. :D
I'm sure there are some rad ziplines, but I've never done em fwiw, but SUPing can be fun. Would never attempt to reel in a marlin from one, but around here you see tons of guys on the rivers fly fishing for trout on em.
Oh, and whoever was wondering about windsurfing/kitesurfing: windsurfing is still alive on the EC, I see about 10 or so every morning if the wind is good in Hilton Head, although it used to definitely be more. Neighbor bought a kitesurf setup a few years back. I'm pretty sure its still in it's original packaging in his garage. I hear the OBX are sick for that kinda thing though.

I still windsurf, but it takes 20-25 knots to get me excited, so not all that often. Kiteboarding is definitely taking over, but I'm not about to buy more shit... to sit in my garage, too. I'd buy a SUP before a kiteboard.

Look up-thread. I went once, in an awesome place. Started on the top of an island mountain and ended up after 15 stages on a beautiful beach with tasty drinks. Some were steep and fast, others long and slow through a canopy filled with Macaws and Iguanas. Some were high off the ground, others barely skimming rocks and cliffs. I went with my Wife and kids, and yes - it was fun as hell.Quote:
