this is probably one of those things that i never will never understand, ah hell, so be it. I will say that i didn't use them once in AK and that yesterday at the wood, the deepest of the year, I also went without them. Maybe someday i will break out of my gaper status, but it is gonna take alot of str8line AK camps before that happens. :D  :p

When I see a set of those trailing behind someone in the lift line, I always tap them on the shoulder and tell them that their shoes are untied. They always look down.

I don't use powder cords, but I don't see what is wrong with using them, especially if it save you time hunting for a ski.

Just so there is no confusion, I do tuck mine into my pants and have NEVER skied with them trailing behind me. In fact, last time i was behind someone in line who had them trailing behind, I made it a point to keep my ski on top of the cord at all times. Guy kept looking back to see what was holding him back, but never said a word to me.

now you wanna talk about gaper gear, get some Cat Tracks. Someone I raced with this year would put them on for a walk of maybe 200 feet from the car to the snow, I mean come on, what the hell are you trying to save your boots from?
Powder cords, I can take em or leave em, it doesn't bother me to see others wear them. Guess I would rather be seen as a gaper than have to beg splat for a replacement bro. With that being said, i have never worn Powder Cords, but have once used that pink (is punk, no?) marking tape used by contractors to mark sites with. It's cheap and biodegradable, and is better than spending 15 bucks on nylon webbing.

I don't use streamers and I think they're kindof gay when 5-6 feet are trailing behind someone in the liftline but I had to search for a ski for 35-45 minutes in North Rustler on Wed. so streamers might have helped in this situation. Come to think of it a helmet might have helped more than the streamers  . Hell, The only thing I am sure of is it is not safe to start talking shit about peoples setup because chances are you have something on that makes you look like a gaper in someones eyes. Now back to the dancing bull wine!

aaaah yes, good stuff. I always carry some in my hip sack.

I don't get to ski enough pow to let someone else's gear ruin my day.
Maybe next year.
-
What cracks me up is the gaping gapers who ski with powder cords trailing behind them on a dust-on-crust day :D
Just crank your DINs up another 5 numbers.

While this statement is likely true, I will never stop hating powder cords. If you have ever worked in a store that sold them you would understand my pain :nonono2:

In what colors and lengths were they available? What if they customer didn't like the texture of the fabric, could you address that?
-
A couple of years back,I was at a resort in central BC and awoke on the morning i was supposed to leave to an epic pow day.Made 1st chair and 1st tracks racing down grabbing the lift etc. Got a few runs in prior to an invasion of Japanese tourists who were busy finishing breakfast and buttoning up their fartbags. Anywho, I did one of those yard sales where f'n everything thats not tied down gets blown off you. I found everything but one ski. It took almost an hour to locate the damn thing. It dove deep and then must have popped up like a cruise missle landing about 25' away in a ravine but not before it reburied itself. By the time I found it,I almost missed my transfer out of there. Next time, powder cords.

Hey bro bra, please explain yourself because no one around here seems to understand your 'pain', including myself. What is the connection between working at a rental shop and powder cords that brings you so much pain? You seem to have drawn a parallel that no one around here can understand. I have lost ski's for extended periods in deep snow and it is no fun to spend a long period of time searching for a ski when you could be doing another lap.
That being said, I was at Whistler a couple of years back during a really big dump and there was a dude at the base of the Glacier Express chair on Blackcomb with a metal detector. Apparently he helped people find lost ski's in deep pow for a fee. A very opportunistic Canadian.

LOL... what the hell difference does it make? One reason may be the tailgate would hit the skis if they were turned the "correct way." That was the case in my Outback.

forget losing the ski. if your bindings aren't cranked and you lose a shoe in a no fall zone, your not going to need skis anymore. not that I would care if someone were using them, but powder cords are for gapers.

same here, ford explorer though

Who buys powder cords? I carry a roll of the red tape used to tie around stuff as a marker. And yes I have lost a ski on a powder day when I didn't have them. That sucked.:cussing:
-
I brought out the powder cords again today.
It was a good day for them. I had lots of fun
How was your day?

I'll see your your Cat Tracks and raise you:

Most store-bought powder cords aren't much longer than the tail of the ski, and are therefore useless. Get some flagging tape or just some orange accessory cord and make your own: 6 feet is a good start. Tie them to your binding and tuck them under your cuff on the outside.
If I'm a gaper, fine. I'll happily gape multiple pow laps while the real skiers are digging and hiking.

Yep. I wasted 60 powder minutes at Squaw yesterday searching for one of my BigDaddy's. Finally found it under a tree, 40ft of untracked between my crash site and the ski below. Wish I'd seen its flight...Next time, flagging tape.

Who needs drugs? Being stuffed in the Cram with 100 flatulent Spring Breakers fresh off the redeye from Dickwad city is enough to make a man hallucinate.
