The hike to the top is along the ridge. It's about 45 minutes. I'll put up another picture of the Bec de Rosse. I don't have any rowdy shots off Mt. Gele.
Blood bath? Certain death? Oh, come on. The peak was socked in when I was in Verbier, but I would have gone up. My brother has skied it when he lived there one winter. I agree the place is bad-ass and exposed. The place would definitely give the best big mountain skiers a test worthy of a champion.
Maybe you didn't see the picture on the 1st page? Or maybe you are Jeremy Nobis?Quote:

Would love to see some footy from these comps. Looks like you can order a DVD too that captures the past 10 years of this event...can't quite figure out to order it though....

Holy Mcburly. Interesting that literally every one of the competitors is sporting a full-face helmet.
The people doing the Verbier Ride are not the world's "best big mountain skiers". Granted, some of them are top-level but anyone can do the competition - you just have to register early enough and pay up. That means a significant number of the people competing in the Ride are far from being the world's best skiers. If a competition was run along those lines on the Bec des Rosses then the outcome for certain competitors would be very likely to be death. That's why the Extreme is an invitational contest. Still disagree? - try skiing the mountain.Quote:

that Klassen video just made me shit myself.
Go Gunnar Newquist, Squaw dude.
I didn't know you could ski a red circle around a white xQuote:

beside the xtreme, on the next WE (March 18-20) there is in verb the outdoor film festival with some 20-30 movies on free evening display in the street fair. Previous editions were really RAD. Bring some warm clothing, buy some raclette and fendant and enjoy some (otherwise) very hard to get little independent masterpieces
I took some pics yesterday:this is the mont gelé, site of the the verbier ride:

the tracks you see were from competitors. The lift has never been opened this winter
and this is the bec des rosses, site of the verbier xtreme:

there was a fu*kin wind that turn S and W exposed snow into ice yesterday.... the bec was prolly sheltered..... more details to follow
Think we can all agree that that is enough of a face for a Comp, even if it's not the Bec? :DQuote:

Oh my...those pics of Mt. Gele and Bec de Rosse make Kirkwood's world tour finals venue, the Cirque, look like green circle groomer walk in the park.
Yeah I would make sure it's not region encoding too, or it will be a waste of $$$$ ordering the DVD.Quote:

I've skied Mont Gele. It's worthy of a contest with plenty of lines to choose.
My advice. Get out to Verbier.
dude, all my sons (6, 10 and 13) have skied the mt gelé. They're certainly not xtremo heroes, simply there's plenty of options (particularly on E face) that are much much more easy than the lines depicted by the pic on the w face. This notwithstanding, lines in the pic are tough. Not as tough as the bec des rosses, but surely OK for a contest with free access such as the verbier ride.Quote:
