Hi frecnhy! Underrated and overlooked Connecticut(home base of AlpineZone) is the home of some of the gnarliest snowriding in the USA. The snow and weather are underrated, and if you can shred here, you can shred ANYWHERE. When you score your first powder day in the glades of Mohawk Mountain, you will be grinning from ear to ear, I promise you! While I am here, I would like to take this opportunity to formally invite you (as well as all TGR Maggots , TTip-ers, NewSchoolers, Epicureans, jongs and lurkers alike) to come join our fun-loving but responsible bunch of snowriding aficionados at http://forums.alpinezone.com/. I think most all of you will find that our seasoned moderators "keep the bar high" by maintaining a sense of order and decorum, while encouraging quality discussion about our favorite pastime. I can assure you that "newbies"'(jongs) are welcomed with open arms by our entire community(unlike here at TGR), and there is no "hazing period" or rudeness tolerated. We also have superior bandwidth and response times on our 502g superfibre network as well as a state-of-the-art virtual blade server farm with 5000 terabytes of virtual disk space for your photos, blogs etc. It may take a small amount of getting used to, as we do have reasonable standards as far as language and image posting that are strictly enforced. The registration is easy and painless, and the rules will be explained in detail during the process. I will warn you however up front that registering an ALIAS is strictly "VERBOTEN", and something we have zero-tolerance with. If you are tired of the juvenile goings-on at TGR and Newschoolers and yearn for a snowriding forum that matches your maturity level, all I can say is: "Come join the fun"! :)
You are right. Connecticut is so much more gnarly than Alaska. The GSA should start training for Connecticut.Quote:

Ps. Go Away.
i grew up 20 minutes away from powder ridge, yet i never skied there once (or anywhere else in CT for that matter). my parents hauled us up to magic/bromley on the weekends and then when we outgrew that we started hitting up sugarbush/mrg. then i moved to WY and life is better now
i never skied there but i had a high school graduation party there. some kid carried an empty keg shell to the top of the hill (only at a CT mountain is this possible) and pushed it down the hill. it almost killed like 20 people and eventually found its way through a window at the lodge. good times
Woodbury made a marketing effort to be the first ski area open in the East, and succeeded two years running (ahead of Killington). Have heard nothing about it since.
Those are some ugly ladies skiing in those dresses.
Sorry, I get a little testy while waiting through the boring summer months so I can go rollerblading on snow in southern Connecticut.
Serious question: Did you help make that movie or are you skiing in it?
Listen, ml242. Don't go getting your tall t in a bunch....
;)
Had some real fun nights at Sundown back in the day. Used to poach the lift lines when there was enough snow and stash bottles of Jäger in the trees.. Good times!
Growing up in CT in 1980s, I feel like it snowed a lot more. Maybe it because I was smaller.
Haha yeah man you should! Here's another edit from this year 'cuz I FEEL LIKE IT!

But for you mogul lovers ski sundown is also really big into moguls and they have tons of comps throughout the year. Such a nice vibe at smaller ski hills, its so nice.
So which one is you?
Sundown is fun for a day trip to get the chillins out of their mothers hair, but that's about it. There's a great inbred diner in the way back, too...
I really hope he's making a legit edit like a boss right now. If park videos are all that are going to get posted, I want to see some TGR people skiing at Sundown, not some random guy. Frenchy, are you going to get a pass at Magic next year or what?
XXXXXL Karma gang sign Michael Lesh WORD!
I grew up in CT, but rarely skied there.
I mostly skied in VT (Mt. Snow and Okemo).
Mt. Southington always seemed better than PowderRidge.
And, I think PowderRidge is now closed looking to transform itself.
Feel free to skin up it. Maybe it will become a CT scene.
^^
Yes, Southington was the gnar, with Powder Bump the hill for gapers. Flatter than flat. Used to have a season night pass in my teens in the 70's.
Powder Bump's been closed for probably over 5 years. There was some talk about reopening, but everything that was there is in such a state of disrepair that they'd have to start over.
Ahhh, Loserzone. The only place that could refer to something as insipid as sundown as "the institution". Some of the local losers even put their tally's of 47 days at <600ft vertical sundown as their "season". So sad.
Tall tee hoodie for the win!
The fly had barely touched the water as Greg reels in another...
I lived in that state once.... Always drove to VT or MA to ski mostly. Sundown is fun if you get "altered" and pre-game in the parking lot and do the night skiing. They always groom on weeknights so at least you can find 30 seconds of hauling ass on G'barrel before getting back on the lift. Plus I'm pretty sure they throw in at least 2 short, but perfectly spaced 3-4ft mogul fields somewhere in there.
Well all else fails, pull the ripcord and bail the fuck out West to ski.
