Live there? No. Ski there? Occasionally. Mohawk, not Sundown. Hard to pass up $20 and an hour from home.

Live in the south east corner. Ski Sundown is fine for quick trips with my young kids... have never gone there alone. I drive up to S. Vt to get some vert (such as it is...).

Live in Central CT. Have skied Sundown at night midweek in a pinch (when CT gets snow, but I can't get time off), but its only a 2.5 hour drive to Magic.

I spent most of my childhood in the car with my parents every weekend driving from Western CT to VT. I might have spend one or two days at Mohawk.

I grew up 20 min from Sundown. Skied there early on at night. Middle School ran a bus every tuesday.

Other than that, my buddy and I tried to hike it once in high school, mid day. Got tossed pretty quickly. It was pretty funny.

We used to drive to VT every weekend. Mount Snow mostly. Bear Trap mostly.

You need to get intouch with Old Larry. At this time of day I would try ringing up the bar at The Yale Club and asking for him.

We are sorry to announce that Powder Ridge will not be opening this year as originally expected, pending sale of the area.

aaaand that's why I didn't ski there. Although it was snowboards back then.

    Straight up gangsta from Granby?
Don't make me show pictures of the backwoods farm town that Granby is.

Partially grew up in CT and had a blast skiing there growing up- quite a bit at Mohawk and then was pretty into going up to Catamount while in high school (catapult- double black diamond!).

While on the subject: anyone ski at Woodbury? That place was the best kind of junk show. Things I remember:
    - The double chair usually having 0-1 lifties- occasionally one at the top or one at the bottom, but never in both locations
    - "Features" being built from accessories in the lodge or skate park at the bottom- jumps/jibs involving the couches, benches, etc...
    - The police showing up more than once
    - "Jaws of Death"- the 15 vertical foot double black diamond

Anyone been there recently? I'd be super curious to know how things are going these days, it's been about 10 years since I've been there...

not a fellow 860 skier, but i must say that that edit is so full of WIN and so much goddam better than any POV footage any day.

looked like a perfect night to me. snowin, not too busy, and fun. would be dumb to drive to vermont if you could score conditions like that so close to home.

i remember lapping wawa one night in HUGE power storm. it was puking. 13 inches fell from 5-10pm and there was no one there. talk about refills. why? twas a friday night and all the "hardcores" were clogging up 91 trying to get to mrg or someshit. well saturday was bluebirdy and friends that sat in their car on friday night for 8 hours trying to get to the holy land enjoyed a powder 30 minutes at the "cool" resorts up north. tracked up instantly.

    love that shit. good game!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Similar deal here. Have lived in CT for >30 years. Went night skiing @ Mt. Southington once. In high school, my ski team trained at Mohawk so I ski'd there 7 days a week, but it forced me to pickup snowboarding to kill the boredom when I wasn't on a race course. I haven't been back on a snowboard since I graduated from HS.

Magic is <3hrs from just about anywhere in CT, so going to Mohawk, Sundown or Southington just seems like a waste of time (to me).

If you haven't checked out Stept's work yet you really ought to have a look. This clip will give you an idea of how well those boys can shoot and edit but this bit is pretty mild.

Their other work will give you a sense of the sickness they are capable of. http://steptproductions.com/

I've lived in CT the last 4 years. I've never been to Ski Sundown but I have been to Mohawk maybe twice. Once was for night skiing with a friend and beginner wife. Once was a weekday where I pair of skis I'd bought arrived in the mail and I couldn't wait to try them despite having other things to do that day. It served its purpose both times and I had fun*, but there are WAY better options for what I want to ski if I have the time to drive.

*To be fair, I don't think I've ever not had fun skiing...

    Yeah, show me fool.

Ski sundown has so many sick edits I'd love to show but this little douche right here might get a little more rattled.

    Like I said, gangsta JONG.

It is a nice edit though.

Look up Jessica Sobolowski. She grew up skiing Sundown.
I went to high school with her.

Sorry if I insulted a kid that is young enough to be my own, but Sundown has always been that way.
Just glad they let you jump now. They used to toss you out for getting a 1 ft air off the side of the trail.

just looked her up and she's pretty sick, a lot more sick skiers come from sundown including the Provo Bros.

I'm from Wallingford. Skiied Powder Ridge, minutes from my house, now totally abandon, lodges are trashed, grass is overgrown.
Skinners paradise, if you can get pass the no tresspassing signs and all that jazz and find a place to park, which isn't very hard.
