Three Little Birds. If it's on your list of favorite songs, you better get the name right! And I don't think The Doors ever recorded "House of the Rising Son." The song was made famous by The Animals.Quote:

A couple other nominees:
"The Blizzard of 1999", Sweep The Leg Johnny
"Super Brava", Samiam
The Who - "Baba O'Reilly"
"Whatever" - Husker Du
"You Shook Me All Night Long" - AC/DC
exactly, the greatest song of all time must accomplish all three:Quote:

Well that is practically the hardest question in the whole world.
SOME of my choices (so hard to select only a few)
Queen- "Bohemian Rhapsody"
The Who- "Baba O'riley
Counting Crows- "Long December", "Mrs. Potters Lulaby"
Jackpot- "Pennies"
The Beatles- "yesterday", "Imagine"
Polaris- "Hey Sandy"
Floyd- "Shine on you crazy diamond","Wish you were here"
Dispatch- "The General", "Bridges"
Fleetwood Mac- "Oh Well"
Zep- "Stairway to heaven" (duh)
Thats enough for now. But clearly it is practically impossible to pick ONE song.
NO, NOT REALLY :yourock:Quote:

"Moonlight Mile", "Stray Cat Blues", "Can't You Hear Me Knocking", "Winter" and just about every song on Exile on Main Street - "Torn and Frayed" Sweet Virginia", "Rocks Off" Tumbling Dice" etc al - the Stones (so many more...)
"Debaser" - Pixes
"Down By the River" "Hart of Gold" "Cortez the Killer" - Neil Young
"Blitzkrieg Bop" - Ramones - pure rock 'n roll simplicity
"Left of the Dial" "Here Comes a Regular" "I will Dare: - Replacements
'What's Goin' On" - Marvyn Gaye
"Radio Free Europe" - REM - defined a decade of sound in the early 80s when 'alternative" or "college radio" became viable to the masses
so many more....
i agree that just about anything by the dead and zeppelin is untouchable. but i can't think of anything that i'm digging better at the moment than:
queens of the stone age - better living through chemistry
I'm glad to see that Steve Earle made it on a few people's lists. He's one of the most underrated musicians around. Also if we're gonna mention Nirvana then make sure "Where did you sleep last night" from the Unplugged album is included. And as far a Zepplin goes: stairway sucks. "Over the Hills and Far Away" is a much better song.

I'm of the feeling that any song that's on a greatest hits album is exempt from greatest song ever. Most popular/most overplayed != greatest...IMHO.
And, though some of Bob's songs could potentially vie for the greatest ever spot, none of them are on Legend (with the exception of Punky Reggae Party...and mayyyyybe Redemption song, but definitely not those - poisoned by the white man - versions).
That's another problem with greatest song. Do you go by version? Some songs are ho-hum on the album, but the live versions blow you away.

I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine
I got no time for livin’
Yes, I’m workin’ all the time

This is impossible. This is like asking someone what their favorite food is and then argueing their answer.
But what the hell I'll play anyways...
Pink Floyd Time or Comfortably Numb
Most Zeplin songs
Not a dead fan, sorry, they are not that good
Gotta trhow up some Sublime, Santeria or Bigfish
Bob Marley, Three Little Birds
Chilli Peppers, Under the Bridge, Soul to Squeze
Ozzy, Road to Nowhere
Mettalica, One
Niel Young, Old Man
Weezer, Say it Aint So, Dope Nose, the Good Life, California, Hidden track from the Green Album, El Scorcho, Cover of Britney Spears Hit me Baby One More Time,
In response to previously mentioned songs:
Tuesday's Gone was better when Metallica did it, best Skynyrd song that is not about a bird is "All I can do is Write About It" or "Ballad of Curtis Lowe." "Four Walls of Raiford" deserves an honorable mention. Whoever picked "Long December" is sad. Sorry, it's true. The only Pearl Jam song I would even consider is "Better Man."
Punani, your response was exactly what I would expect from you, and I agree. On a side note, my roomate's name rythmes with Def Leppard, so we call him that. Unfortunately, he has two arms.
Woodsy, no, you are wrong.
Trench Town Rock/Concrete Jungle- BobMarley
Runnin With A Gun- Slightly Stoopid
Lets Go Get Stoned- Sublime
Rosa Parks/ Hey Ya- Outkast
Lady Venom- Swollen Members
1. "Imagine" was a John Lennon solo project.Quote:

I can't really explain why, but this song just makes me wanna go absolutely apeshit. If I were listening to it in oh...say a church...I would run up to the altar, get up on the table, and start playing a combo of air guitar with switches to air drums.
Watts' drumming in the song is seemingly simple yet amazing once you really listen to it; and the guitars...there's just something dirty...no...filthy...about the guitar riffs. It's brilliant.
I think Woodsy is close to the mark. While workin' man is great, I would have to say the best song of all time is Marathon, but there's a caveat. The version on the "Show of hands album" is the absolute perfect song. The studio version is a little lacking. Listen to it, if it doesn't inspire you and make you want to turn it to 11, then... well, you're prolly dead.
Also, tom sawyer is prolly the best song of all time but its too played for people to look at it objectively.

Here's some more ridiculous choices:
Kyuss - Spaceship Landing
Thin Lizzy - The Black Rose
Deep Purple - Hard Lovin' Man
Montrose - Space Station #5
Thanatopsis - Axiology
Judas Priest - Victim Of Changes
UFO - Rock Bottom
Van Halen - On Fire
AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie
Ozzy - Over The Mountain
My bad with ImagineQuote:

Shit. We were wrong. It's Naive Mellody (this must be the place) by the Talking Heads.
