Everything on that site from an illustration perspective is quite a few years old and also pretty tame given it was for ad work. I've started doing paintings on all sorts of different materials (glass, steal, beat-up old boards, etc...) using a variety of twisted themes and characters. As soon as I wrap up a few more of them I'll be building an illustration specific portfolio site and will post the stuff. Any mags that have been to my house recently have seen portions of the work. It would be pretty ridiculous (in a good way) on a pair of skis.

You're right it's not a maggot company. Never was, never intended to be. I wasn't trying to get that sort of connection made and wasn't asked by anyone in the company to post this. Perhaps I should use words like "they" and "them" rather than "we" or "us". Perhaps I need to go back to the think tank and come up with something remarkable enough that someone will post it here on their own ambition without an agenda.

Is the design contest completely original? No. But then again, did (insert your favorite non-indie ski company) ask you for your $.02 when they wanted to design, shape and produce thier last ski? Of course they didn't cause they've got it all figured out on their own unlike a small indie company of a few guys from Utah or perhaps they didn't ring you up cause they could give a shat about you at the end of the day.

Early last summer I was asked by one of the founders for some advice. Since he was a friend I gave some advice. A couple months later they asked me to be on their advisory board. I told them that advisory boards were for old guys with a lot more money than me and that I wanted to be part of the company to see if I could help it grow.

They couldn't "hire" me as they are tossing all the money back into it for next years skis but I didn't care too much. Figured it'd be a fun gig in that childhood ski dream sort of way and if they splash me with a couple pairs of skis and a few Franklin's at the end of the season we'd call it even.

What about Marketing for a few pairs of skis? Is my value dropping like the US dollar? :p Trust me, I know what the value of my time is but it's not always measured in dollars.

And if anyone has a design they´d like to see, but can´t be bothered to do themselves. Let me know, I´ll try and hack something together. It´s fun, and the prospect of two pairs of skis seems to be really motivating. :)

Bump because it´s just eleven days left of the comp.

I wanted to jump on here and say thanks for the support. Our whole thought throughout this process is to make skis that people actually want to ski. We have taken a lot of feedback from riders here as well as on the hill and in emails and phone calls and have put those recommendations back into our skis.

The design contest is one more step in hopefully making something that people want. We have narrowed down the designs from over 130 submissions to the top 20. We reset the votes and opened it up for one more week of voting so check it out.
