But once everyone else hikes their prices 10% like SC did...it will seem like a value once again!

I’m sweating buying a $4000 gravel bike. Meanwhile everyone around me in town buys a $20,000 snowmobile or side by side every year. I’m doing something wrong.
I really like the paint job on that $20,000 Scott bike though...
i'm talking beyond dentist ,
I was hanging out at the shop a year ago 4pm on a shittty lazy saturday waiting to close, someone named BoB
leaves a filthy sand encrusted 20K+ pinerello, 3 mechanics including the manager jump on this abused bike they take everything apart and make it perfect, Bob has it back before closing
i comment that Bob sure abuses his bike and that is a terrible way to treat such a thoroughbred bike bike and BTW what does bob do? they are like yeah Bob owns a lot of things, he spends alot of $$$$$, every year and he uses the gear
Bikes are weird - when you compare them to say a boat or a sled habit - cheap.
But they more closely resemble a dirt bike and wtf?
Crf250r is 4gs less than that rocky and within reach of what I just dropped on an ibis.
the price per LB is insane
have you got the new bike yet ?
not that it matters cuz there is nowhere to ride it
Not yet - thanks again for the hookup Al. Probably going to head over to pg to pickup this bad boy next week (need anything at costco?)
Your boy was great to work with and I am super pumped
Who needs an engine!.. and a foot of travel..

The whole point of bikes is to ride them not to hang on the wall. Props to Bob for using his fancy toys.
I don't have 20k bikes all of my bikes currently have mud and scratches on them. Drivetrains get cleaned, suspension gets maintained, but fuck if Im going to avoid riding cause my bike might get dirty. Chains and bearings are cheap.
This is a very old retort, but when Rocky is selling 2 MILLION of these things per year in a global market, I bet their prices could come down a few G’s, too. Oh, and when weight is basically a non-issue as well. And when they sell the same basic platform for 10 years.
EDIT: I have no actual idea how many crf’s are sold per year, but you get my point.
The problem with price per pound is that a big part of what makes bikes so expensive is how light they are given the beating they can take.
Edit: basically was rideit was mumbling. [emoji16]
^^^ exactly. Also, you can purchase basically the exact same MTB’s that are raced at the highest levels of the sport. I don’t know moto, but it is my understanding that the bikes top level guys use are very different and way more expensive than anything available at local dealerships.
True, and usually can only be ridden a couple times (under 10 hours) before full rebuilds on the engine are needed. I didn’t get the durability aspect of MtB til I picked it up and realized what a thrashing they go through and how long we expect them to last.
That said, I’m going to make the controversial statement much like the boots thread and say 90% of riders are overbiked. Once you get past a Fox34/Deore build the rest is certainly not necessary for the majority of folks on the hill daily.
That's a very old retort to the very old retort.
All told competition class bikes have had a slow growth (Canada data here: https://www.mmic.ca/mmic-industry-st...-summary-full/) - well until 2020 which is a bit of an anomaly we can all agree. Mountain bikes - have had solid growth even before 2020.
My point is more that as the price differential turns (high end mtn bikes becoming more and more expensive than high end dirt) and more dirt co's go electric (many say the limiting factor for motorized dirt bikes is limited legal riding space). You can see folks turning to the motorized version is all. It just gets tempting. I know I was tempted. A plated dirt bike offers some great opportunities up here. (CRF450l is 12,000 pesos - 9500 freedom units up here)
That being said - I will keep beating the piss out of my '94 xr and riding my brand spankin' new Ibis for a while yet.
.. oh and dirt bikers can be weight wheenies as well, hence part of the KTM premium (their 450 is like 220lbs.)
I think a lot of it is just cultural. Mtn bikers are just willing to pay more. Best deals on dh goggles, gloves, jerseys - try the mx shops.
A completely stock top of the line mountain bike is essentially identical to what the pros are riding.
A completely stock, top of the line dirt bike is not even close to what the pros are riding. If you want a pro level dirt bike, you're looking at a solid $50k or more. Even a "regular" dirt bike with some pretty common upgrades will have another $5-10k worth of stuff hung off it.
I think we decided on a cocktail napkin that the difference in $ between average toys and the high end is 10x but its probably changed

Shorts got tight for these two little shredders last night. Two stoked little dudes.
look! a shop with bikes. probably all spoken for.
them kids sporting anglesets and infinity engagement hand built wheels on those dentist builds
So true. I was even dead set on a speshy evo-class bike until I was like "wait, I'm not rad" and saw the thrashing the regular stuff was taking in the reviews. I am now happy with my non-Evo purchase.
Kind of like how we all don't need 192 Big Mountain chargers for resort use *ducks*
All canfields new bikes. Lithium and one are very nice

So first ride, on my main close local loop. PR’d the down. Fiddled with stuff on the way up, cockpit mostly. I have not demoed any other bikes in this category so cant comment directly. Took almost no getting use to just fast out the gate. 29 lbs 6oz with pedals and bottle cages.
Faster than tracer, much easier on the body and faster than the highball. When I locked the shock climbed nearly as efficiently as highball but with bigger tires. Cant wait to get more miles on it! Not sure i need the other bikes in the quiver, cept the kona ebike!

That’s not mine. I ordered (back when I was employed) the Rocky Instinct 90. Full XTR, carbon wheels, carbon cranks, dentist spec’. It’s slated for delivery early June (ish).
I contract my self to a local shop and build their new bikes, custom builds, and lace custom wheels at my home shop. That way his mechanics/staff can concentrate on repairs and sales.
Rocky bikes just started arriving, today I built that Instinct Carbon 70 Coil, an Instinct C50, an Altitude A30, and just brought home an Instinct C70 to build tonight/morning.

Some nice builds in here. The kona xc bike has some sweet lines. Not often i'd say that about an xc bike.
Cool santa cruz mullet bike. Red so its definitely fast
And that coil front and rear Rocky has to be fun. Great bike to add coil too. Still a reasonable weight
