Brother in law just bought a new A4 Avant (Allroad) after cross shopping it seriously with the VW Alltrek stick. Then my sister totaled it this weekend (distracted driver texting broadsided her). I just picked up a 2015 TDI Golf wagon. Love it.
Was tempted to wait for the manual 4-motion version but the deal on the TDI was hard to pass up.
Definitely take one for a spin. If you want more power getting a tune on the 1.8T is reasonably cheap.
My impression of the Mk7 Golf is that they feel and drive like a more expensive car.

This thread reminded me that the Golf Alltrack 6 spd manual recently became available. Managed to find one--in my preferred platinum/dark brown colors even--in Reno. Driving it home in a few mins. Super tall 6th gear + 199 ft lb torque at something like 1600 rpm = road trip machine.

This was my rental last week in Switzerland. 2017 530d (auto). Mine was the "sport" version with bigger tires, effects, blah. The amount of whiz bang was my remarkable. Pretensioners on the seat belts. Can steer for you and keep you in the lane. Instant torque. Was a really nice ride.
