1 x Knee Deep Hop Shortage (very dry-malted, ultra bitter TIPA)
1 x Green Flash Palate Wrecker (just about the single most ruinous bitter beer I have ever had!)

there's something like 1,000 breweries in the planning stages, only question is when the beer bubbles going to shake out. Just look at all the stuff planned for Berkeley/Oakland/SF. Mikeller, Sierra Nevada, massive Anchor @ PacBell - and those are just big ones with support, there's a ton more small breweries, ton more beer bars... it's nuts. Santa Cruz Co. has 8? breweries now + 3-4 beer bars and there's a couple more in the works.

Despite my inability to find Ithaca or Alchemist, I am happy to report that
I HAVE FINALLY FOUND MY EAST COAST IPA
that deserves merit in conversation amongst west coast styles.
Flying Fish Exit 16
On tap in Philly at Khyber Pass pub. Spectacular bright citrus elements interwoven with a nice soft sake-style floral mouthfeel and brilliant aromatics thanks to the combination of Citra hops, Chinook hops, pale malts, pils malts, and organic WILD RICE. Well fucking done, New Jersey. Applause for Hackensack Meadows.
local Arrowhead Brewery has an IPA now. Its not super hoppy, which is nice in a way. American style IPAs always try to ram the most hops possible (I know that's the style).
Anyway this one is not bad for a newer brewery, nice to have just a moderately hoppy well balanced beer that one can drink all night.

Anyone tried these yet? I like the single better than the DIPA, I am usually a double fan but the alcohol was way over the top and killed the flavor of the beer, IMO.

Sam Adams has the winners of their Longshot brewing competition in a mixed sixer. One of them is called Magnificent 7, and is supposedly brewed with 7 different hop varieties. I thought it was phenomenal...really balanced and smooth, not a hop bomb but great flavor and no excessively bitter finish.

Cuz I just started working at the local bottle shop and the boss was introducing me as the beer guy. I have a line on some new products from smaller distribution co's. I prefer IPA, but want to bring in some other good beers of all styles. We lack saisons, farmhouse...
Elysian Brewing Avatar Jasmine IPA. Not too hoppy and the jasmine taste is interesting but still really tasty. It's not overly hoppy and really smooth.
Selling through the Caldera Hopportunity Knocks. Folks are also liking Rogue XS imperial IPA.

I enjoyed all 3. The Haand is bottle fermented, and great balance ... nothing bright or overwhelming on the nose, but a solid craft IPA. The Nogne O 500 was really really solid - good nose, smooth malts to balance the 10% alc, solid body. 2 Captains was brighter and more enjoyable to my personal preference. "Nogne O" also translates to "naked island." Sweet.
Also had plenty of Aeger IPA, which ironically is brewed and sold at one of the most touristy fjord towns around (Flam) but it's actually a pretty solid beer that was my "go to" when I didn't want to drink shitty Hansa pilsner. Unfortunately, it was also a $20 per glass "go to" ... really painful to buy girls drinks there, fucking Norway!

Anybody go to sac brew fest at Raley field? Heard that they tried to kick out Jeremy Warren (proprietor of Knee Deep) for pouring beers himself to help keep up with demand since the fest was to cheap to hire ample staff. And that they are trying to fine Knee Deep. What a shit show.
Been drinking lots of Lost Continent DIPA for Grand Teton since moving out here, really liking it, on par with Hoptologist for sure.

Stone RuinTen in bottle. Muuuuch malty for a Stone beer, probably their maltiest IPA I've had, but not too much of that syrup feel. Pretty good ... but I was more in the mood for fresh west coast style of Enjoy By that night. I've got another bottle of the RuinTen that I might like better with some grilled food or something ...
Deschutes Fresh Squeezed in bottle. Much better than their bottled brews that they normally distribute out of state - reminded me of a Fresh Hop Mirror Pond in nose and flavor but in an IPA style in terms of malt/alcohol.
