just arrived in flagstaff.. going to climb the highest peak in arizona tomorrow - 12633'. it'll be a big challenge for me even at this weight, and pretty much impossible when I started this thing.

Beware foods with high caloric density (a lot of calories for the volume). Dried fruits are a classic example of this. These foods are good if you are need a lot of energy and don't have time/amenities to eat a proper meal.Quote:

I work in a field that is full of fits and starts. I typically am very active and also eat a lot. When work would get overbearing I had a hard time adjusting the volume of food I would eat and I used to gain weight and then when it would back off I'd get fit again. Now I adjust my eating style (in terms of caloric density) based on how much work encroaches on my exercise.

well, i made it to the top of humphrey's, but it was sure to spank me. endurance-wise i was ok as long as i took it slow, but a thunderstorm above treeline and a loose gravel slope that almost decided to take me down with it really scared the shit out of me.
i guess now i have the respect for mountains that you can't learn from a book. i'll post a tr sometime in the next week.

The only problem with fitday/spark/etc is that your feedback happens after you eat and not before when you could do something about it.
Everyone should read Chris Carmichael's (Lance Armstrong's trainer) Food for Fitness. It tackles fitness for athletes (and weight loss as well) from a very good point of view.
It also answers your question trayc, as well as most of the other questions in here.
Also, the reason I'm not answering you trayc is that it depends on too many things to give you a straight up x% carbs y% protein and z% fat. For instance, your fitness level, goals, etc.
Zone teaches palm of the hand per (meat, veg, etc.). And Steve, how do I get on the spreadsheet? I've been keeping track but forget how to get on. Good luck with the peak bag!

Still hovering around 182-183. Both of my kids were sick all of last week, so I didn't get a chance to exercise and the lack of sleep made me want to eat comfort food. That combo was bad news for weight loss.
I've been laking serious motivation to do anything useful. Main part of show season is coming up, so I'm thinking I need to do better.
