Speaking of which, I'm hearing rumors that Alpine may still be on the lookout for additional coaches, although I'm not sure whether the needs are for race or recreational teams. If any maggots were interested, I'd probably suggest that contact the people who run the team directly and ask what their needs are; their email addresses are on www.alpineteams.com. I do know that they hire some coaches without experience and train them during the season. This is going to be the ninth season I've had kids on team, and if my weekends were consistently free, I'd be signing up in a heartbeat.

Maybe. But as a paying customer, who is not an employee of Alpine, I am not happy about Alpine asking me to spend the morning at Alpine for two team meetings and not being able to ski between the meetings or in the afternoon. Schedule does not work for trying to go to Squaw. BTW: the team agreement calls for at least one parent remain at the resort (Alpine or Squaw).

After six years in the program, there is going to be need to be some significant changes to the justify a "kids only" day/weekend to learn the routine. If the teams are not competitive race teams, the teams should start when the whole family can ski. Reminder for Alpine, for those teams the "customer" is the parents. Soft opening where the parents can ski = nice, thanks. Soft opening with parents bored in lodge, checking their watches = "how much did I paid for this and why are we doing this"

I am sure the kids will have fun. But if we are not skiing, we have other things we need to be doing...

^^^ Wi-fi running in the lodge? I'd be doing some work if I had to sit around, but then my work is such that I can usually find something to do remotely...

The start date for teams was set and publicized well before opening date for the mountain was. I think that they felt an obligation to provide team this weekend, both to fulfill the promise, and probably to avoid requests for partial refunds.

The teams take kids from one side of the ridge to the other fairly regularly. I do not interpret the team agreement to require parents to follow them.

Well, he asked if I was going to skiing and did not say not to. After that, we talked about boot fitters while he took the staples out. :) Before the Nov surgery, he have me the go ahead. Just a question of how fast I recovered from that surgery.

But there might be some head shaking at the next visit.

Anyways, I will be giving Cosmo a bit a challenge on Saturday.

Probably the plan for Sunday.
Although, Last year (and before) Alpine wifi was not that great particularly if you had a few other people doing same thing. I usually have better luck with my verizon mifi if it is not a busy weekend.

Parent must be at Alpine or Squaw. You are not suppose to go to town or go back to your house.

No plans to go to skiing if the only option is Squaw. I expect it to be a little more busy than I would be comfortable with until I get a few days in. If it is WROD situation at Alpine the next couple weekends, I probably wait it out. Collisions are not a the surgeon's approved activity list.

That is some exciting news Mr. Storm Day. It's been a while.

Fortunately, my kid has graduated to coaching. I will likely be giving some other mountain my money this weekend or I would stop by to buy your a beer. Hopefully the storms in the extended will get us out of WROD season quickly!

I don't think Rose allows overnight parking, but I've never asked.

When's the class? If we don't have guests in town for holidays, you're welcome to stay at our place. We're about 15 minutes away from Rose.

Consider yourself lucky you're not a swimmer parent. 105 degrees out, "Next event is 47 heats of Girls 6 and Under Freestyle, and we're not starting until we get some of you to time." Every Saturday, all day, to watch your kid swim for a total of 2 minutes.

Sugar Bowl ftmfw!

They've always been accommodating of BC skiers hiking Judah. Very cool to see them do the Uphill Pass thing. First resort in CA that I know of. I know Crested Butte and a number of other hills do this already--actually, I think CB charges for it.

Sugarbowl has done a ton of shit right in the last few years: (1) this; (2) base area development that fits the location and is generally popular; (3) partnering with ASI and having their building in the village, (4) handling the Royal Gorge situation incredibly well, first by pulling out of the partnership early when they realized it was going to go south, and then by partnering with the land trust to run it and putting it on the joint pass; and (5) Crow's Nest lift, while not a huge terrain expansion, is also generally popular.

Sugarbowl definitely FTMFW. This is just one more reason why my pass/dollar allegiance is going to switch soon...

Anyone know if I can park my camper van overnight in the Sugarbowl parking lot? Thinking of hitting up their opener on Saturday.
