Third hand info as I haven't skied up there and the person I received this info from hasn't skied up there yet, but the person He knew did ski up there and it was rocky. I say if you're really in need of skiing up there, take your worst rock skis.

Anyone been to lost trail or lookout?
I see showdown is letting snowbowl passholders ski for free now too, along with a few other places.
They posted earlier today that they will open Lavelle and download Griz (edit: Sunday) . Looks like I was long on my prediction by a week. I'm not gloating at predicting a late opening, I just had a bad feeling after looking at the NOAA long-term forecasts last fall. That, combined with that Forest Service order, didn't instill confidence in them opening early.
For those skiing, I hope the snow is decent and that this is not just a business ploy to keep everyone's pass money for the year.
They just announced a Saturday open for Lavelle at 11am today.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6e380119b1.jpg

It's a cold one out there.
I wonder how much snow the Bowl actually received this week. Whitefish was 20" (I think), Lost Trail was 10"?. The Bowl was in what looked like snow clouds all week. Of course, this wind will leave upper Lavelle scoured. Maybe East and West Bowls will get the blow in and hold it.
This cracked me up. "John dude" the telemarker is a longtime friend.

Interesting to read the forecast discussions for this storm. Last night's write-up went into more detail than this morning's 0341 discussion, but the MSO loc dogs are predicting a stronger punch than the models suggest. Too much warming/drying downsloping in the models maybe.
The models almost never work for the Bowl.
it was starting to get filled in by the end of the day today. had a pretty decent time, would go back tomorrow if i didn't work
you could make it down paradise and there are fewer bushes sticking out on lavelle.

you'd have to come into it pretty fast to pull that off
All four tires off the road, strong work! Permafrost claims another victim. :FIREdevil
Someone DID go into the ditch! I left at 3:30 and saw some tracks there and just thought "already?". I mean, I know it's the middle of January, but you've only been able to ski down for like 3 days. It's rough up there. Better than not skiing, I guess. I found some good rocks. Scared to let my skis really run. You'll only hook and sapling once. Trust me.
Oh, and did they hit a tree too? Look at the hood.
I guess that one happened after I left, but when I left yesterday afternoon, man were there a lot of tracks going into Permafrost.
Ya gotta go in there once, but not once a year!
Pretty good up there today! Much better than I anticipated. Lots of talk about Snowpark opening tomorrow to help spread out the crowds and ski school.
They must have done a lot of work this summer if they are talking about opening Snowpark. Good thing it's supposed to rain and be warm now that I bought heated socks [emoji53]
I'm not an expert on snowmaking or running a ski area but it seems like spending more time making snow on paradise would have been a good move this winter.
Went up for a bit yesterday and just left early because i didn't want to deal with skiing through dirt and rocks again to get back to the base.

Sunday I went and checked out marshall. Wanted to head up toward blue point but that was looking pretty bleak so I turned around.

Getting back down wasn't very fun. The lower face down at the bottom was probably the best skiing and there's a lot of grass showing.
