is that thing paid for? nh registered? fuck insurance. i dint pay for it from 1992 till 98', or 2007 till 2013 when i lived in nh. it's totally legal to not have insurance on a paid for car in nh.
just don't hit anyone and it's all good. i laugh at all the money i saved:D.
surfed an hour and a half this am. ogt was wind fucked but york was clean and there were some fun peaks to be had. knee-thigh w occasional waist high set. finally set the new 5'8 up quad which loosened her up a shit ton and left the leash in the car for no drag. the lefts were wicked flat and meh, but the rights were a blast if you picked em right. even tucked into a lil inside section for a mini cover up and came out:)
fun but tiny.
you ever get out yesterday?
it's all about the 8/8/10 rule, b.
forecast looking pretty piss poor for the next week. twas a nice 4 day run of decent enough surf.
Yeah it's been paid for since I bought it. I just am not prepared to pay out of pocket for damages to other vehicles at any point in my intensely fluctuating, youthful financial situation.
i hear ya. living in maine costs me about 280.00 a year in car insurance to be legal for the road. was tough to have to "give in" but ah well. property taxes are practically nothing here, so.......
might be a wave here/there this week. may look at ogt mid late am tomorrow, then thursday could be worth a look.
does nh not require that you actually have cash on hand to pay for injury/damage to others? seems a bit irresponsible and/or selfish to not insure if you don't have the cash on hand.
i was hit and injured by a non-insured driver in maine years ago. had i not been driving w/o a license, things may have ended differently. i think my parents sucked it up and paid for the moped and my medical, cause it was their idea i drive w/o a license. i was 16 at the time, and they were done driving me to the surf. had me leave a board at my girlfriends house, and moped down by myself. was awesome until a hatchback nearly ran me over. they did not let me moped after that.
nope. many people drive w/o insurance in nh cuz they prolly don't have much cash at all and can't afford it. even when i lived in mass in my late teens, i had a p.o. box in lincoln nh that cost me practically nothing so that i could be registered in nh cuz it was way cheaper and i didn't want to spend the cash on insurance if i didn't have to. so long a i was legal i wasn't gonna pay anything that i didn't have to was my reasoning. i knew full well that i couldn't hit anyone tho. i did get hit a few times by insured drivers and collected the cash every time. no probs. when i moved to maine in late 93' i kept my nh plates going for years and i remember getting pulled over for speeding (quick change from 45-35mph zone caught me offguard. the cop asks me for license, registration, and proof of insurance so i gave him 2 out of the 3 and told him that i didn't have any car insurance. he looked at me all bewildered and was like, "you are blatantly driving uninsured?". i then told him that i was completely legal with no insurance as a nh driver. he was so confused/surprised that he just let me go:D. ah to be 20 again!
oh c'mon, live a little strawjack! think of all the dough you coulda saved!:D sucker:fm:
so uh today was crazy fun at the ogt. shockingly so.
kept an eye on the buoy from early this am and noticed the period lengthening and the size stay over 4' with the right winds and angle to make ogt a go. can't say that i was 100% certain that it was gonna be good, so i brought both boards just in case. i pull up over the hill and a smile crept across my face as i saw that familiar site of perfect bowling a-frames in the waist to chest high range coming in one after another with the period just over 8 seconds. no one out.
for 2 hours it was just 3 of us getting more rights and lefts than we could handle. the leashless 5'8 quad was ridiculous fun. was a perfect sesh to get quantity and quality to go together to really get a feel for how the new board works in different ways. definitely more fun than all 4 of my sessions last week including the overhead turkey day swell. ogt has the zip fer sure.
was also nice that it was sunny with temps in the high 50's.
looks like a pretty active week coming up for surf. wednesday-sunday baby:)
wow, sounds like og rivah was nice. one of our more photogenic local waves started working for a few days last week..

Sweet riv stoke, C!
next Sunday/Monday could be titties. Just sayin;)
Outlook is on the up! Sunday Monday looking substantial now. Will be way better than WROD, rudeman:)
Yup, i've been watching it too... Tough time of year for me to make the jaunt, but I do have some purchases to pick up in VT... it's a 30% maybe
I will be wrod'ing it up tonight, but when it's "16" (read: 7) runs of mixed man-made/natural is it still a WROD?
Think of all the dough you could have lost! I've never been without catastrophic health insurance either...f that! All my yrs bummin' I made that a priority. I've lived harder, faster and pushed the envelope more than you homie claus! It wasn't smart, but I made it. And I didn't want to be in debt to anyone.
It was a funboard/longboard day yesterday.
Your reports are like the Jay snow reports...overblown!
all my years from outta hs when i left home at 18 till now i've always had full health insurance. got off of the parents insurance at 18 then paid 283.00 every 1/4 for years with awesome coverage when living in maine and not much more when in mass. been with my current employer for close to 10 years with great coverage for pennies. so i was a responsible ski bum for those dozen or so years before my current gig.
maine wins every time when the swell's coming in at around 140 degrees. twice the size of nh yesteday at ogt!:)Quote:

solid overhead and clean was the name of the game this am. clean. just 2 of us out this am prolly part due to the size and the fact that everyone may have assumed that it would be messy. not the north end of york after a night of north winds.
paddleouts weren't too bad, altho i'm glad i wasn't on a longboard. the waves were glassy and perfect. both the rights and lefts were yielding lovely results. the new 5'8 set up back to thruster was perfect. held like a freshly tuned pair of race skis and was so easy to snap around. had a nice time with the other guy who just moved back from cali. he was happy that i joined and shocked that there was no one else out. i said, welcome to winter york beach:)
shitty shot, but oh well. we were actually surfing a bit north of this pic where it was totally clean.

surf for the next week maybe
hey +1 for pics Rawg! otherwise SJ was right and your surf reports were going the way of Jay snow reports without a webcam!
Jay really does need a webcam
Well guess what! I've got a camera now so expect more pics!
ah the drops this am. Ah the drops:)
Tomorrow:)
coupla more from yesterday. wish i coulda taken em from atop the building behind me
marching in with no takers. yet

good swell

Love york:)
woke up this am not expecting to surf. Then I started doing my daily recon of buoys, winds, and cams. That's when I threw my shit in the car and headed to the beach.
Super fun sesh with no one else out this am. Surfed from 8-9 in shoulder high clean conditions. Don't know what all the surfers were doin on a Saturday am. I know nh looked like shit with the north winds. Heck even the york cam at mid beach looked like shit due to the angle and where it sits. Best cam ever!:D
but the buoy and winds don't lie. Forgot my camera at home. It'll stay in the car for the next week as we're looking at a solid 7 days of waist to head and a half surf every day depending on the day.
STOKED!!!
It will stay in the car? Isn't it for talking pictures of the chicken? He (?) will be going of to college in a week! Don't miss it.
Been stormy out here te past week. Runoff. S win chop. Victory at sea with short periods of meh. Tuesday looks promising with a short window of off shores and a nice mid period swell. Wed looks solid with about 10'@18s, but we might see those S winds begin to pick up again. And I can't surf Wednesday anyway, so there is that.
Sounds like things have not changed much. Most folks never considered the Nubble head protection. That was before the cam, but when the winds went N, most I knew headed to Gooches and never went south. BTW, Hollows love that N wind if there is enough swell to get in there. Not that you'd bother driving the 18 miles, but it is a super fun wave. Not mush, like long sands. :)

as i've said, the beauty of the cam is that it is too far south to show that there is actually clean surf to the north. the cam pretty much always shows shitty surf, which is why i love that cam so much.Quote:

that's why i don't go to gooches. the place is a shit show when the winds are north. even 99% of the nh surfers i know go straight to gooches when the winds are north. i'd much rather surf alone.Quote:

i've heard of it, but yeah, if i don't hafta drive more than a mile from my house, i don't. why leave good surf to find good surf? always been my motto. york is definitely a softer wave, but i'll take softer, clean, and big open walled up faces and no crowds any day.Quote:

for power and zip i go to ogt. and i surf ogt pretty often. the 5.5 mile drive is torture tho:D
stoked for tomorrow afternoon.
^^^nice Rog!
Log day! Ha!
THANX!:D
angle of swell is wicked steep from the north. waist high at best and clean right now at york. waiting a bit longer for swell to build as it has been all morning. 9.5 feet @ 6.5/7 @ 25/30 degrees. brisk n-nne winds.Quote:
Log day! Ha!
or i might go ride my trails:)
fun sesh on wifey's longboard just now. waist high sets and clean. 3 of us out total.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...photo2copy.jpg
7 second waves that were lining up like 10:)
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...hoto12copy.jpg
better than a sharp stick in the eye. off to cut/split winter 16/17 firewood:party:
head high clean tomorrow just sayin:)
ok maybe a few head high drops, but mostly very consistent chest to shoulder high with a bit of texture, but not horrible.
finally a true winter paddle out. 13 degree air temp with nne winds at 15 or so and spitting snow. man does 48 degree water feel warm when air temps are in the low teens. waves were super fun. peaking gradually then lining up fat and open for quite a ways in either direction. you could definitely surf them top to bottom if you stayed close to the pocket.
just 3 of us out again this am. the other 2 guys were a coupla hundred yards south of me. they looked kinda chilly sitting way up outta the water on longboards in the cold air. sitting nipple deep on a short board has the advantage there:)
coupla shots:
just outta the water after a 200 yards sprint up the beach in the cold winter temps and head wind. refreshing.
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l.../photo12-2.jpg
waves were plentiful this am. not perfect clean, but really pretty nice. that's ice coating the beach:eek:

anyone else been enjoying all this surf lately?
Man, I was out on Saturday in 60f water and 68f air. Pudge once asked my why I ever moved away. That is not the reason why I moved away, but it is part of the reason why I don't move back. Glad you enjoy it. Someone has to.
I hear ya. I do enjoy it. Earning turns on washington for so many winters will hard'n up a person. Brutal but super quiet with good snow. Surf's the same way. Last winter we had water 36-37 with air temps at or below zero at times. Amazing how warm i stayed in my basic xcel infinity 5/4. You just get used to it. Those days are good for crowd control. Yer breathing gets really weird at those temps.:)
You getting any surf out your way? Fucking huge victory at sea today thru late tomorrow here. Actually went mountain biking this am instead.
Back tweak yesterday is keeping me out of the super good surf today. I hate getting hurt in lopsided head high surf just to miss the crisp long period DOH the next day. Oh well. More will come
As for the cold, I think wetsuits have improved since twenty years ago. Or so it would seem. My disposable income has increased as well so I imagine I would not be surfing in a tattered ok 5mil with a spring suit and hooded best underneath.
Ugh hate tweaking the back. Snow shoveling does me in. Luckily we've had no real snow to shovel this year so far. Yes, more always comes. All year:)
Wetsuit tech gets better by the year i think. I get a new infinity winter suit every other year and my current one held up quite a bit better than the last one.
Going to go to the Wall at some point tomorrow, just to watch. I need to pick up some wax and I just want to see the power. Going out on Thursday if I can make the paddle out.
S winds Thursday will limit options. Tomorrow will be nuts. A bit rich for my blood. And stormy. Buoy close to 20' @ 11 and coming dead on:eek:
friday will be sweet most everywhere with perfect winds and swell direction.
It's a short drive up 1A to the campground. Across the river there is a left hand sand point that take a big swell to get in there. You'd be lucky if it is chest high.
What is the wind forecast for that 20@11? BTW, that is like an upside down snow. To tall and close together, IMO. But if you find a place that requires a looooong wrap, it will space out the period.
Going off here today. 14@17^290 is running up and over a 12@14^290. So, yeah, it is solid out there today. Damn lame old man back. And I'm taking the boy skiing this weekend, so I need to recoup. Maybe I'll grab a few picks. Mavs is going as well.
