Yeah, BSU has had a run of great rushing seasons as-of late, and had one of the top rated O-lines in the preseason. They recruit great run-blocking lineman and are deep at the position. What folks are pushing back on is downplaying hunter's season, or him as a person. The guy was defensive player of the year in the FBS. He also had 15 touchdowns on offense and 1200 yards while winning the award for the best wide receiver in the FBS. He played full-time on both sides of the ball (something that hasnt been done since....?), and he DOMINATED on both sides. He had not only a great year on both sides of the ball, but what put him over the top was the uniqueness and nostalgic ability to be a true 2-way player.


Essentially, Jeanty was a one-dimensional candidate (great running back who was a workhorse). Hunter was multi-dimensional candidate (great reciever, great CB, throwback 2-way star).

danno, you ignorant slut. i mean jesus christ not only are you telling us that you know fuck all about how Colorado's season unfolded but also that you don't have a fucking clue how the CFP bracket works. so basically, if the buffs hadn't been broomstick raped by a 4-6 kansas team, they would've played in the big12 championship for a playoff bye. hell, even with the kansas loss, they were still in contention to play asu until byu beat houston in the final weekend. so yeah, a playoff berth and bye was very much within reach. they did all of this without a 100 yard rushing performance. their leading rusher had 400 yards on the fucking season. if you don't think having the best offensive weapon of the last decade would have pushed them over the edge, you are smokin dick respectfully. they could've had half of jeanty's production and still been a playoff team.

And yet you're ignoring that in your scenario, the team's best defensive player by far is not there and the team's best WR by far is not there. And you are also ignoring that a hudge part of the reason they had a shit run game is the O-line is one of their biggest weak links. So yeah, take their lock down corner away, take their WR 1 away (about 30% of their receiving yards, receptions, TDs), and add a great RB, and they will miraculously and suddenly be hugely better? It's a stupid argument that neither of us can win, but it's also a really stupid premise as the basis for your argument.

The idea that the guy who won both the Biletnikoff Award AND the Bednarik Award (in the same year!) somehow robbed AJ is just mindblowing to me.

Hey, I think Hunter is deserving and the vote is done. I don’t follow CU football like you guys probably don’t follow BSU football like I do. Not a lot of flashing gold chains and watches on the BSU side. The only reason I posted anything was a comment on how Prime costed Hunter votes. It would be interesting to see the amount of media time Deion got this season versus BSUs coach. Tell me you knew his name before halfway through the season.

My only only real frame of reference is Hunter throwing two Heisman poses in a game where they were getting their asses kicked. Rubbed me wrong. Either way, he got the trophy and BSU is going to have a tough contest in the playoffs.

I can accept Hunter winning the heisman. i think Jeanty should have won it and will argue that point but i'm not gonna say Hunter is undeserving. great corner+great receiver, i get it. what i will say, however, is that Hunter is entirely undeserving of the biletnikoff and bednarik and should not have won either. he was not the best receiver nor was he the best defender and he robbed deserving candidates.

yeah obviously receiving and coverage would take a hit but CU has solid depth in both rooms and would adjust schematically. more safety help over the top and go to a 3-4 base to help with coverages underneath. the o line actually doesn't grade out that poorly and their run blocking certainly isn't indicative of how inept their rushing attack is. jeanty would completely transform that offense and more than make up for hunter's absence. Shedeur would eat no matter what.

As far as Hunter being the best receiver…I thought Nash was #1 in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. Again, Hunter is generational with what he’s doing but I guess being number 1 in all receiver stats isn’t quite enough to be the best receiver.

BSU has an elite O-line now? Dude, just stop.

Nothing against BSU but their o line isn’t exactly elite. You’ll find that out in the playoffs but what will really get you is that Jeanty will still get his. Watch them play. He’s not getting gaps the size of Texas…he’s breaking tackles, creating space and carrying LBs.

Back to most people don’t know Boise State because they don’t follow them nor does BSU get the media. Their current left guard and left tackle started the season. From center working right they are on either second or third string.

And you probably wouldn’t know that by Jeanty’s just shy of 1,900 yards after contact this season.

I get it, Hunter is the Heisman winner. I think it’s cool what he did. Maybe out the awards he won, that one probably makes the most sense. Can’t say the hype machine didn’t help though.

No doubt, Deion is a master of the hype. And I am not really a fan of that.

Shadeur and Hunter are estimated to be #1 and #2 NIL earners this year. Surely Prime had nothing to do with that. Jeanty started a couple games his freshman year, split time last year and was #2 in the nation for all purpose yards for RBs last year. He had an okay year this year. Not that it's published, but he had calls and offers from teams in every conference last portal. From the coach last May:

"The amount of tampering and illegal stuff thrown at Ashton and his family and he consistently says, ‘I’m a Boise State Bronco, I want to continue to be a part of this,’ it’s through the roof, way more than people even know,” Danielson said. “That’s a testament to who he is as a kid."

Nash's knock is SJSU's 101st-ish SOS. He's +12 receptions (104), +230yds (1382), and +2tds (16) compared to Hunter.

Tet's knocks are AZ went 4-8 and he didn't get in the endzone enough. He's -8 (84), +167yds (1319) and -6tds vs. Hunter.

Those are guesses for arguments against. I don't know how to fairly balance individual stats with SOS for the positional or overall O & D awards. Or being the lone star on your team getting the ball constantly but being the focus of the defense vs having a stacked WR room with teammates siphoning off production but more "pick your poison" for the defense.

Not saying the money-chasing diva* is more deserving of either the Biletnikoff or Bednarik, my point is that picking the best is more nuanced than basic stat comps. I think you could make a compelling argument for Nash or Hunter, and one over the other is not zOMG conspiracy material.

*Apparently he receives $0 from the CU collective and covers 10-15 of his teammates's NIL out his own pocket. Deion Jr. is the source for this info so who knows how true.

Hey, I'll retract the diva comment. My exposure was his interview in Oct and him flashing poses when his team was losing badly. I'm sure he's a great kid and he does clearly have some type of work ethic to be able to train to do what he does. A great who just pulled in an estimated $5m this season in endorsements.

Not sure what to say about SOS. Truly. But Nash didn't also have Shadeur throwing to him. It's all pretty subjective. I've taken it way too far with something that all started with saying that Prime hurt his chances in an award voted on by the media.

Related but also not related:

Boise is not "fighting for bowl eligibility" if you replace Jeanty w/Hunter. They're not 12-1, but they're not struggling if you remove Jeanty and don't replace him. They're on a different level than their conference opponents. 14yrs of bowl eligibility in MWC. They've made it automatic and that is impressive.

The 12 team playoff is dumb. A 3 loss team should not be playing for a Natty. I can hate the format and still love watching the games.

The playoff seeding is dumb. I won't talk about BSU. ASU at #4 (or any B12 team) is ridiculous.

Jeanty and Hunter are both good dudes and elite competitors. Zero fucks given about either of them saying effectively "I think I'm better than the other guy." High character ballers.

Prime @CU = unmatched hype. It's working so far. Unmatched hate too. Comes with the territory.

G5 teams are treated differently than P4 in both W/L eval and eval of their players' achievements. I think that's ok. Fans of G5 and fans of P4 will debate this until the end of time.

point taken and Gordon is one of my favorite players of all time and i watched his 2014 highlights religiously but i give Jeanty the edge for a few reasons:
-Jeanty has at least one game left and may well break Barry's record
-Jeanty has 1900 yards after contact. that is just silly
-Gordon was running behind 2 first team all americans

-Barrys stats including the bowl game:2,850 yards and 42 TDs (12 total games)... significantly outpaces Jeantys statline over his 13 game season thus far. That comparison needs to stop. Its not close. The comparison that holds water is how much better of a season Jeanty has had than any RB in recent history to win the heisman.

-No doubt, great player.

-MGIII played behind 2 All american O-lineman against much better defensive fronts than Jeanty faced. It was peak power football in the Big 10.


I also think that Jeanty had a better year than MGIII- he was more consistently great. Every game he showed up and was the player of the game, while MGIII had a couple stinkers in his season to go along with that 400yd performance.


But, can you name anyone who was a top 5 player in all of CFB on both sides of the ball? Other than Hunter? Youd likely have to go back to leather helmets for anyone to compare to. With Jeanty, you just have to go back to 2014 for a comparison.

Don't forget the part about playing 2 full games each week against guys who are much fresher, gunning for you specifically while you beat them with speed and athleticism every play, and avoid injury while playing double the snaps of anyone else. Hunter had a target on him each and every play- he was getting the opponents best on every down, on both sides of the ball, (literally) the whole game. Its a pretty amazing accomplishment.

Champ Bailey, Deion, Devin Hester, Charles Woodson, etc... all what-ifs for playing full time on both sides. Travis Hunter is the only one who did it.


All that said, the player who was (and still is for that matter) visually the best athlete on the field, looking like he is playing down a level, is Lamar Jackson. The guy was and is a cheat code.



Random Question- does that ASU running back have tourettes? He seems to have a weird headshake-tick, and i cant tell if its tourettes, or he is just a little crazy. he runs like he is a little crazy.
