Def enjoyed 0 smoke days last year in bozone. I feel like it'll turn on at some point.
On a savagely positive note, there are absolutely ZERO Tate poops in our backyard! Attachment 481063
I offer this to counter Kevo's post above. :) [Also, "record-setting" when records only go back to 2007 is kinda wack. :)]
Some laid-back, late-day powder from the other day in the BC.

to be fair, even positive posts are not getting much of any reaction.
No facts allowed in this thread? I thought it was the place to post local conditions. Sorry it ain’t all unicorns and rainbows.
Anyway, first day ever at Targhee for me today. Skiing was decent, chalky with well spaced, shallow moguls. Definitely fun but damn do we need snow, groomers at the bottom of Colter were mine fields.
Yea went for a walk this morning on the pass and the unicorns were no where to be seen. Need snow, a lot of snow. Driest one I remember

To me, height of snow is more interesting than snowfall. Seems like we all, typically, fixate on snowfall.
Height of snow factors in WHEN the snow falls, other atmospheric factors, loss to sublimation, etc., etc.,
Even in this thus-far-low-snow season, a bunch of that snow fell early and is gone to the ether.
The graphs I posted are a measure of snow water equivalency (SWE) currently in the snowpack and not precipitation to date during this water year. They are also not a measurement of snow depth, though SWE is strongly correlated with snow depth.
SWE is measured in inches- if you melted the snowpack, how many inches of water would you have. If sublimation or melting happens, SWE goes down (this recently happened at the Phillips plot- note that the black line for this year had a dip last week).
Djongo- didn't you post historic data at the start of the season from the past 30+ years of El niños showing how bleak they can be? Did that jinx the winter for the entirety of North America?
I do not believe in jinxing with one notable exception- The real reason this season sucks is because Bama has a chance at the CFB championship. Montanaskier is entirely to blame for that.
I'm choosing height of snow, intentionally, as the most interesting metric (for me). Even with the same SWE, height of snow can mean something very different; SWE consolidates it into one number but in so doing doesn't tell the full story.
This season doesn't suck! There have been some unbelievable days which rivaled any good day last year — just less of them. It's actually pretty phenomenal that there has been untracked, high quality snow to be had with as little recent snowfall as there has been. That's a fantastic thing!
I still feel pretty damn sated from LAST winter, too.
Never even considered the SWE…

Ya I am coming with the same program as last time. So I won’t really know what my tix situation will be until after the group checks in. But I should have something workable.
I assume conditions out there are very similar to here right now? So we plan to bring all kinds of multi sport activities. Should we bring bikes? And we will definitely be catching another Moose game while we are in town.
You can rent fat bikes easily, just bring your preferred footwear/pedals/clothes, IMO
Djongo, I'm back down this coming Tuesday-Thursday for work/ski.
Would love to bring the skis over one evening if you around for a quick tune?
Le Tits Now, indeed.
We're heading up at the end of January. original plan was to split time between the resort and touring in the park, now not so sure that will be a good idea. No worries though! We'll make the most of whatever we get served up. Things can always turn around.
I'd love to meet up with anybody for laps and/or beers.
Cheers.
Pm me before ya roll in, staying close to my abode again? Plan to swing by...
Conditions are firm but coverage is still pretty good. Plenty of groomers and off piste is doable altho new sticks are not advised.
Damn quiet around here when the holiday crowd splits, mehopes.
Yeah mag, holler whenevs. I'm around.
Skied the ghee yesterday and it was FUN. Groomers were sweet and the good, bad, ugly were soft bumps. The traverses were peppered with rocks. Got to see a lot of old friends. Great holiday treat.
It was pre Covid last time we skied it on the local 2 for 1 discounts. Surprised to see Utah’s paid parking in the most layed back ski area. My 8 yr old was pissed that she had to be a 5 yr old for free ticket. Locals saying they are expecting a sale of resort soon.
Figure I would open that can of worms and let u filthy animals give us your thoughts!
Pebble is not to bad but they are selective grooming (smart) due to lack of snow.
New groomer and the hill gets dressed up neatly. A little wind would help us with nature’s groom would be nice. But at least we are skiing.
How is snow king got 2 free days, might hold for better times???
Happy holidays you dirt bags !!!
Rutter had a heart attack. Close one. He is recovering after surgery in I Falls. Go fund me is set up. You know what to do.

Damn, that's a bummer, We just caught up 3 days ago. Donated and hoping for a full recovery asap.
Happy Holidays to you as well.
Stoked the 'Ghee is still skiing well and you got some. Paid parking seems to be just the deal anymore. Popular places with captive audiences.
Da King is white but it's skiing thin. Wait for sure.
Update on Rutter: 2 stents installed the day of the incident. Doing well, may even be coming home Tuesday. A bit over 25K donated to help him deal with whatever comes next. Good on the community here, proud to be a part of it (even if I'm a winter transplant).
On the stoke side skiing is pretty rough out there as we all know but the hardcore types are having at it everyday...making turns, hanging together in the sun and enjoying what winter has brought us. To me that is what it's about...dealing with what the mountain is giving us and living the skier life. Do I hear a Kumbaya :)
Maybe a bit of fluff coming depending on who you believe
