Other than possible availability, I don’t see anything compelling about this bike. There are literally dozens of bikes that do the same thing, weigh the same or less, have equal or better geo., and almost all cost a whole bunch less. I was very pleased after seeing the Spot Ryve in person. It's very pretty, with nice details and a great spec for the price. The will give you a decent discount basically just for asking, and will swap some parts and delete wheels (with a reasonable credit). We chose to change the dropper length and skip the wheels as Ms climber will be getting some Chinese carbon ones anyway.
The Ryve is prob too XC for all of you tire destroyers, but the Mayhem might be worth a look.
The old 429 looked and felt heavy and dated to me. Shaving close to a pound and modernizing geo definitely makes it more interesting. I really liked fit and ride of the SB but second guessing because realistically its more bike than I need for alot of my riding. By the time you go “enduro” build with dpx2 and 36 on the new 429 it becomes a heavy 120mm bike again and pretty close to SB anyway.
Yeah theres a ton of great bikes out there, but getting hands on the one that resonates with you is the hard part this year.
Not a good time to try and buy a new bike. Even worse time to try and buy a used one.
So I already have a patrol for when I want to play endur-bro. It fits the bill to a T, very pleased. But the riding I really want to get into is the back 40, 20 to 30 mile days on flowy single track with more climbing. Hence the short travel 29er.Quote:

Down here in the south / upper Willamette we have some longass deep rides where that class of bike is great, like the O Leary Ridge to King Castle epic, or the Old Cascades Crest Pyramids loop, or full Bunchgrass to Oakridge, etc.
That being said, my 28 lbs 2015 Bronson v1 *practically* has the weight and geo (saddle slammed forward and angleset installed of course, with flat bars too) of new downcountry bikes, just with longer travel :)
And the dual position fork I run (130/160) allows it to climb with an XC/trail geometry and descend with an (outdated) enduro geometry. So ... pre-boost frames do have some weight advantages ...

FWIW my spur is 28lbs. The way it rides though I've no doubt it is faster on the ups than a bronson. It blows my mojo3 out of the water.

I don’t know how those trails drain after a rain, but the upper part of Cummins Ridge can handle moisture really well and is a sick, albeit super super short, trail. I’ve ridden it on a hardtail with 150mm fork - but it’s got a lot of steep rolls so slacker bikes will do better there. Siltcoos Lake trail is very close to Florence but I have no idea how it handles moisture and have never ridden it.
Further inland, Alsea may be riding okay right now ... and Whypass (Carpenter Bypass) is built to handle winter rains.
Down south by Grants Pass, Taylor Creek trail is a real treat! The Jedi section west of Windy Pass is suuuuuuuper easy (did it with a 1 year old the handlebars) but a delightful stroll through a Ponderosa and sugar pine ridgeline.

What they tout in their "Sine" suspension is exactly what I hated about the suspension on my Nomad 3 and Sentinel 1. Regressive to sag point makes it really really tricky to accurately set sag since it kinda hammocks around 30% for a variety of pressures. Then regressive at the end of stroke makes it super easy to bottom out.
The whole progressive / regressive thing on that sine suspension is 99% bullshit. The "curve" is effectively just flat. It's straight linear. They keep some *very* minor wiggles in it to dodge some patents.
That thing is basically a yeti sb5.5 with moderately updated geometry, and now with wheel size and travel options.
That’s pretty much what every PB comment said...
May not be groundbreaking, but I like this direction of multiple wheel size/travel options, like what GG, Rocky Mountain, and many others are starting to do.

It's time to put up or shut up for AC's new bike. A shop 1.5 hours away has a S2 Stumpy EVO Gloss Clay in stock and is holding it for me through the weekend. Jenson has some SB130s (C1 build) arriving in a week and I've reserved one. I have until Saturday to obsess about this decision. Any thoughts on StEVO vs. SB130? I'm leaning EVO because:
-$1000 cheaper for almost the exact same parts spec
-Little to no weight difference for a more capable bike (the EVO might even be lighter after I replace the heavy Rhythm 36 with a Mezzer? I bought the Mezzer in the fall and it's ready and waiting)
-The EVO has gobs of adjustability and the SWAT box
-Pinkbike BOTY 2020 winner
-She's way hot for the clay color
I'm slightly concerned that the EVO could be a little too much bike, but reviews all seem to say that the EVO climbs great despite blurring the line between Trail and Enduro. She parking lot tested another EVO that's her size but the wrong color at another, much closer shop earlier today. She said the sizing was perfect and it felt super light. I called around and no one nearby has a small SB130 to throw a leg over.
She'll be stoked to the moon with either bike. She bounced off some trees a few years ago, got a pretty good concussion and her confidence never fully recovered. If the extra margin for error with the EVO helps keep her upright it might be worth being a little slower than the SB130 would be on the ups.
