No pow in Tahoe. Maybe Lassen or Shasta. Not sure how this last stormed fared up there. Pretty sure Mammoth did not get the rain, but the snow is about a week plus old.

Several inches of liquid with snow levels 7500 plus. Maybe McConkey's water ski idea will make a return if all we ski this year is deluge.
Not to panic, but last year it all blew away after Thanksgiving and this year it looks to get washed away. I'm totally panicking.
You are skiing too low. It is a high altitude sport.
That would be a bummer though, especially when you consider the flooding.
Have yet to read BAs report. Off to that next, but the models I looked at last night suggest wet, warm and sloppy, but by Sunday, she gets cold and mean with another inch of water by Monday. Could be perfect base builder for the higher elevation.
Edit: dude, chill. Looks like it comes in warm, but drops to lake level and gives us plenty. At least that is what it looks like a week out. Unless you are worried about the band coming through Wednesday night. Ignore that one. Things look good for now.
And truth be told 10@kw is skiing better and better. Held up all day, and with an inversion things hopefully did not set up
Looks like my plans for Friday are getting washed away.
Doh! Well, it's been better than last year!
Keep it positive folks.
80F here in Southern California today, and the most epic climbing weather I've ever had in Joshua Tree for the last week. Lots of classic routes done, IPAs drank, camp-roasted turkey and veggie loaf slayed ... Now I'm ready for the next Tahoe storm - snot, glop or pow!
I can't believe people are complaining. Geez. This next one looks perfect right now
Skiing in the morning followed by mtb in the afternoon...in the basin, yeah I'm ok with that. Fuck looking for work, I'll do that tomorrow....
We'll get what's coming but it looks like a net gain to me on the next system, potentially a really nice net gain. I'm happy with whats going on at the wood now, considering it's still pretty early.
I'm going to try that Kirkwood place tomorrow. Pretty nervous.
Who's complaining? I'm panicking because I have the same feeling as last November around Thanksgiving when we were barely in business and waiting for one more dump to solid things up and -when it didn't happen- the existing snowpack disappeared. If we do get a decent amount of moisture after snow levels come down, without washing too much away from what's barely hanging on right now, then I'll quit panicking and go back to complaining about how hard it is to find good corn in December.
Skied some groomers this morning followed by fly fishing in the afternoon. A nice day.
Vert Harvest. 9am. Tamarack parking lot. Come make like a puddy tat and lap it up.
Crappy afternoon on the roads of Truckee. Be careful out there, folks. Hard to fit a bike and car side-by-side in the roundabout at the same time.
That sucks.
Sorry. Panicking then. But this years snow pack is way more bomber that last Thanksgiving. Last year, CP/KW had about a foot of light snow that blew away. The wind won't do anything to this pack. And it would need a lot of rain with freezing levels up way high. Don't panic. It is going to be okay. Seriously.
And I expect anyone heading out to KW to do their duty and crush some crust. Thank you.
I'm definitely impressed on what Kirkwood has open. All the groomers are packed powder bliss and under the Wall Chair & Eagle Bowl are downright fun turns. However, the snow under Big Jim's is another story...
From BA....
"We could see very heavy rain with the rivers coming up fast. The forecast models are currently showing 8-10 inches of liquid possible next weekend. On the highest peaks above 8000 and especially the mountains like Kirkwood, Rose, and Heavenly that go up to 10,000 ft. there could be rediculous amounts of heavy snow, you may need a couple yard sticks to measure it."
Can't say you were not warned.
1) I could have sworn I heard your voice on the hill the other day
and
2) The uber chipper part I just figured was some new quality strain going around the staff, but when they were informative as well, I knew something was up.
Honestly, so far so good. Once they got the hill open, things have been running fairly smoothly. And I know more than a few employees who are stoked to put on a new uniform and earn more money. That might help explain some of the positivity.
Went for a little meadow skipping tour around Relay. Weather was perfect, snow up high was wintery and variable but not too bad. Finished down Tamarack, which was crusty shit.

Who cares as long as it hits the Southern Sierra. Those mountains go to 14k. I'd much rather they get it than us and I prefer wet snow any day. This last storm we got skied and toured much better than that 2 feet of fluff on rock from a couple weeks ago.
And BA is obviously over hyping it anyway.
Nice AKbruin! That run was absolute money on Tuesday. You see any sleds up in them parts yet? Was surprised none had ventured out there yet.
Beautiful shot, AK. Guess Tahoe's so upscale now even the clouds are groomed corduroy.
Looks like a nice day/nice life. :)
The sunnysides are skiing great, but it might take some work to get to the best ones.

Our Read on this:
Short Term Weather Discussion: High pressure aloft moving over CA today will provide one more day of dry, light wind weather w/ seasonably mild afternoon temps. The ridge will begin to weaken & shift eastward tomorrow as the first batch of energy from a large Gulf of Alaskan trough breaks off & begins to lift out toward NorCal. Still dry tomorrow and only a little cooler, but some increasing clouds and strengthening winds by the afternoon will portend of big changes to come by Wednesday. Will wait for noon update to expound on the upcoming storm series, which latest models certainly aren't backing off on, but one has to worry about the position of the jet and how warm these storms will be.
Snow Levels: Starting off around 6000ft for Wednesday's storm (likely the coolest of the storm series). Snow level not likely to go below 7000ft again until late Sunday into Monday.
Sentinel and parts of 10 skied ok Sat though 10 is starting to get scalped. The entrance is getting entertaining.
I read this and laughed. They should bring back RRRamon the South American Lift Nazi from a few seasons ago. He was hilarious, especially the way he insisted to see everyone's pass before each and every lift ride. It didn't matter if it was 3:59pm, or that you were a KW ski instructor in uniform.
wow jah. thats some fucking dedication if thats where i think it is.
Shasta. Just cuz it's fun to read :):

No dice on skinning Alpine in case anyone is wondering. The place is plastered with closed signs out front and there were about 50+ employee cars parked in front of the lodge this weekend. Lots of equipment out / stuff going on.
Maybe if the snow levels drop to 6800 feet or so this week (before they're expected to later in the weekend) they'll open early?

If that's where I think that is ... well, my family is all Catholic so any related activities are always an enduring chore anyways ;)
Well scored J ... I climbed a lot of rocks and drank a lot of beer last week. Wake me up when it's December and I'll come along for the next dedicated mission.
Since it's a slow day, let me throw these questions out to the masses:
(1) Who has skied Mount Rose proper?
(2) Where did you park and what route did you take?
(3) When is the best time to hit it?
I get the sense that it's not the greatest descent in Tahoe, but it is the second biggest mountain in the region and I stare at it everyday, so it's near the top of my hit list. I'm guessing that I'd park near Mt. Rose resort, climb up the south or southwestern aspect, and probably try to descend the south slopes at a time when they'd corn up. But it seems like descending down the east side to Sky Tavern could be fun in the right conditions too.
