woohoo 9 minute mile today! still hoverign in the upper 240's weight wise though
I haven't checked this thread for a while but it's awesome to see everyone still so motivated! Great job with the 300 barrier, Steve.
I lost motivation for the gym about a year ago. If I can't be out on a ski tour, bike ride, etc, I can't stomache going to the gym. So, we built up a gym in our garage that has everything we need: squat rack, barbell, olympic plates, bumpers, pull-up bar, plyo box, 10, 25, 35lb dumbbells, swiss ball, kettlebell, medicine ball, jumprope. The only thing I really wish we had was a rowing machine, but I can set my bike trainer up in the winter if I need to for cardio. It's so much easier to motivate myself to workout. Instead of dealing with all the hassle of driving to the gym, I can work out in my pajamas (or whatever other ridiculous outfit I throw on), listen to my own music without earphones, and have some peace. The dog can hang out with us and the shower/hose is seconds away. My workouts are higher quality and more fun. Plus, if I'm not motivated, all I have to do is go out to the garage and just start goofing around, and BAM! I'm working out. You can workout outside in the backyard in the summer, and it's also fun to take the barbell/medicine ball to the high school track and create some brutal workouts.
The weather last week really sapped it out of me too. I've been so psyched about biking and last week I couldn't get out at all. I think the break was good though, because I'm super fired up again and I lost another pound! It's so easy to forget that the body needs good recovery time every once in a while (2-4 days straight). Seriously, after getting back from a strenuous Moab weekend, I sat on my ass and drank a lot of beer last week and suddenly on Monday my pants fit looser than ever.
Sorry for the rambling, but you've all got me excited about staying on it! Keep it up everyone!
anyone know how many calories in a carne asada burrito from albertos?
http://www.albertosmexicanfoods.com/menu.htm
damn that was good. Mexican food tops the short list of the things I miss about CA.
Then again, frankly, it's a good thing I can't get this stuff in NY..
its funny you mention burritos, the sparkpeople "food showdown" today was mcDs quarter pounder with cheese vs chipotle chicken burrito. not quite an albertsons, but still...
and the winner of least calorie food? well, i was shocked to read that it was the burger. i never would have thought a tortilla was so packed with calories. then again, no one ever eats just a quarter pounder, theres also fries and condiments in the mix, but still.

The Low-Cal Winner:
McDonald's Quarter Pounder with Cheese
Surprised? While the Quarter Pounder isn't exactly a diet food, with 530 calories and 30 grams of fat, it is much lower in calories AND fat than a Chipotle burrito. The burrito described above commands a whopping 939 calories and 56% of your daily value of fat! Add sour cream (110 calories), beans (130 calories), and guacamole (170) calories, and you've eaten more calories (1,349) than a lot of people eat in an entire day. Next time, make your burrito healthier by swapping the meat for beans, putting it in a bowl (instead of a tortilla), and loading up on flavorful salsa instead of cheese, sour cream, and guacamole. You'll save about 500 calories.
by the way, el bandito in spring valley and blue moon mexican (ive been to the one in woodcliff lake a few times but theres one at old tappan also) are pretty good mexican around here. and if youre ever in ridgewood, fresh cactus is also really good. im pretty regular over there.Quote:

What is your take on this stuff,

i had one this morning, it was tasty
189.8 this morning!!!! I finally broke through the 190 barrier. 7 mile run on Monday, 25 mile ride yesterdan, and another 6-7 mile run planned for this afternoon.
I am getting tired of yogurt or cottage cheese for dinner though....:frown:
edited to add: WAY TO GO on the 9 minute mile mrryde!!! That's an awesome accomplishment.
yeah, I figured the burrito would be worse in terms of calories than the worst mcd's crap.. but, as maplesyrup implied, when you get a burrito, you usually don't get fries on the side, so things even out. 510 for the ¼-lber plus 570 for a large fries, you're messed up, especially when considering that the fries alone have 30 grams of fat, and 8 grams of it is trans-fat! holy shitballs!
Albertos burritos have meat, tortilla, guacamole - and a bunch of other ingredients that don't contain significant calories (salsa, onions, cilantro, salt, etc.). no sour cream or cheese, unless you ask for it (I don't.) if there's trans-fat, it's what came out of the package with the tortilla, and food manufacturers are trending away from that..
congrats, snowslider..

Steve, RE Orthostatic hypotension. I experienced it for all my life.
As snow slider I got such episodes from time to time and I tend to feel dizzy if I have to stand still for too long. Like you I have a low pulse rate and I'm tall (6'7''). It has nothing to do with weight (I'm on the skinny side) or blood pressure issues or diabete.
Probably nothing to worry about.
there is way more calories than you think in mexican food and stuff, and *loaded* with sodium taboot. usually close to the RDA of sodium in one menu item. the popular fast-food mexican place around these parts that everything thinks is healthy called Baja Fresh, isn't so healthy when you look at the nutitional info they have posted on their website. here is a link for ya, that will probbaly have you abstaining from mexican food for a while if you are trying to lose the fat:

more snakeoil to dupe people out of $$ :) there is no magic pill that will just make you burn calories and lose fat. A clean diet (of good carbs, good fat, good protien), excercise, and willpower is what it took for me to lose ~100lbs and put on lean muscle in the past 16months. and I must say, nothing tastes as good as fit feels :) if anyone wants more details or pics for proof, just PM me, ill be glad to share my mad k-nowledge on the subject of melting fat the right way :)
199; 611 trainer miles since last spreadsheet entry, I've cut the swim back to 5k/week.
Feels good but it seems to be coming off everywhere but the waistline, still stuck at 34".
I just finished watching Fast Food Nation.
Gross.
And thank goodness I don't eat fast food anyway.
For those of you that do, you should seriouly re-think what you'r putting into your body. Blehhhhhh!
i have to watch that one of these days
187 this morning! The weight keeps coming off....slowly.
Even better, I spent Sunday introducing my neighbor and his 14 year old son to the joys of mountain biking. They both had a blast and are definitely hooked.
I feel like I'm on the loose 6lbs in 5 years plan these days. Looks like most of you are killing it and dropping lots! Good work. I'll need to step it up.
i've been pretty gluttonous on this vacation.. had some all-u-can-eat sushi last night and stuffed myself silly.
it doesn't even feel good afterwards, not sure why I do it.
have a case of slim-fast in the trunk of the car.. those will be most of my meals for the rest of this trip.
-steve
some sushi is really good, but alot is loaded with white rice too. shashimi is the way to go. probbaly the best thing you can eat actually. good protein and good fat. Slimfast tho? dude.. seriously, toss that crap. its milk and sugar. Slimfast might work in the short term to "lose weight" but only because its calorie-deprivation. And while you _might_ lose a little fat, most of the weight you will lose will be water and lean muscle. :( So yeah, the number on the scale may go down, but is that the only goal? You can easily eat 2000 calories a day, feel satisified, continue to burn fat and add lean muscle. Thats the right way to drop the fat and lb's, and since its kind of a lifestyle change, it will stay off, and you will feel like a champ. And once you've made the change, eating that occasional donut, bagel, pizza, or fast food won't phase you. (as long as it doesn't become a daily habit)
I probbaly sound like a know it all prick, but on this subject I am :) People ask me all the time, which diet are you on? and i just kinda chuckle and tell them im not dieting.. im eating better. Knowing what to eat and what not to eat based on how the body breaks down and reacts to certain things is way to easy not to make the leap into "eating clean". I'll be happy to give some meal tips if anyone wants to take me seriously on this subject, so pm me because i could go on and on here, and probably just piss some people off trying to be a know it all :)
"Whats the best thing about sparkpeople?", you ask.
This smiliey is quite flyhttp://img254.imageshack.us/img254/8034/ahhhrgop2.gif
