Is it World War III

I heard the only connection was that several members of the Saud family were heavily involved in opening the Madrassas in Pakistan, thus enabling the Taliban to come into existence. (Taliban = Arabic for "Student." They were the students in the Madrassas, aka "Schools.") This was mainly done to appease the Wahabbi sect in Saudi Arabia, basically a deal to keep them from fomenting a civil war within that country. Lotsa poor people in SA, oddly enough, with nearly a 50% unemployment rate. THAT place is gonna be a real problem before to long, IMHO - much worse than it is today.

Dex: I think you´re way out of proportion in your responses to 90% of these posts. Overemotional reactions and name calling does not help people change their minds. I think many people in this thread (those that support Israel included) could use some refresher courses on the history of this little conflict, but I don´t sense very much anti-jewish sentiment (happy Tipp?).

You are trying to assert a moral equivalency that does not exist. You cannot assign a moral judgment to actions(which you must do if you intend to draw a moral equivalency between them) without considering the intent behind those actions.

The Tel Aviv market had no strategic importance to Israel's ability to attack it's enemies. The same cannot be said of the refugee camp.

Israel is(and always has been) striking targets that have military/logistical value to their enemies. The same cannot be said of the terrorist's.

The Palestinian suicide bombers rarely blew up military targets, rather they blew up bus' and market places packed with civilians. The majority of the Hezbollah rockets are not, and never have been, falling on the Israeli military; instead they are falling on civilian population centers.

The terrorist's have been acting with the intent to kill civilians, Israel has been acting with the intent of reduceing it's enemies capability(or will) to kill Israeli civilians.

There is no moral equivalency between these two. You are revealing a great deal of prejudice when you assert that there is.

Why is this about what Israel might have done? We know for a fact that for six years there were hundreds of rockets launched into Israel from the north, after Israel left Lebanon.
Israel showed unparalleled restraint during this time, and for what? A line was crossed, and it's well past time to do something about it. Yet again, interesting how there is always this double standard with Israel when it actually defends itself from attacks--I wonder what could be causing that...

It's odd that when people criticize the U.S. it's nothing like what we've seen here. No one questions the U.S. right to exist or defend itself, but those questions are always front and center with israel. You need to look back through this thread to see exactly how biased (and self-admittedly biased, in some cases) some posters are, and then ask yourself what is causing it. It's very easy to critique israel fairly, but some people are reflexively anti-Israel, and much of this is due to a latent anti-semitism, which is particularly prevalant in Europe (shocking, i know...). Being anti-zionist is inherently anti-semitic, as zionism is the what brought Israel into being.
I would say that one who is against a Palestinian state is likely anti-palestinian, too, in just the same way--i don't know why it's so shocking to hear that people who single out Israel as not being deserving of a country are probably expressing (even if they're unaware of it) anti-semitic sentiment.
I'd like to know if anyone who is 'anti-israel' here also questions any other country in the world's right to a state? I doubt they do, and that's what helps reveal what's really at work here.

As an aside, I'd also point out how interesting it is that lebanon, and much of the world, is now calling for a cease-fire. For six years israel has been under attack, during which time lebanon was supposedly obligated to disarm Hezbollah. But they did nothing of the sort, and instead made them part of the government and helped them arm themselves.
NOW they want a cease-fire. What a fucking joke. yet again, it's only when Israel takes action (doing what the Lebanese should have done but refused to) that there's any international condemnation. Thankfully, there's nothing anyone can do now that will stop what's under way, particularly not in light of the heavy shelling of Israel over the past few days, including major attacks on Haifa. This will probably be over within the next few months, and both Lebanon and israel will be better off.
