Gives you time to put it through its paces and get anything addressed by VW. 2017s are all out of warranty now because they only got the basic 3yr/5yr powertrain.

Improbably, I received a check in the mail yesterday for my full claim amount. I submitted as much evidence/records as I could, both in my initial submission, and in the second follow up submission. Without any further explanation from the claims administrator, I can't say for sure *why* mine was approved, but I suspect that the fact that I purchased the car at 48k miles and the water pump was replaced at 61k probably helped, since it was all between the 40k and 80k intervals where the coolant should be "checked" or whatever bullshit they are probably using to deny other claims.Quote:

Nothing here yet, 402 days after submitting my claim form. Called the Claims Administrator Rust Consulting today [1.833.711.0261]. Was told that a "code has been added to my file" which indicates somebody has decided I am entitled to a payment to reimburse me for the POS water pump I had to replace. Unable to inform either as to when will be paid or the amount.
Also, in addition to a failed water pump, issues with fuel injectors/misfiring triggering the EPC light when idling sending the car into a limp mode, and likely rear differential fail, everyone should be aware that the rear coil springs are failing on the sportswagen and is the subject of a recall [https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/201...V188-9241.pdf]. I have not received any notice from the yet, but I did hear a loud snapping noise while leaning against my vehicle. In the shop again today. While such a fun to drive, practical, AWD and three pedal vehicle, it is so disappointing that it mechanically sucks.
July 17th received an email from the water pump settlement attorneys:
"We have received your additional documents and they will be re-reviewed. You will be notified after the re-review process."
I'll say it again "fuckin lawyers".

On the sunroof leak issue...I received a settlement announcement and claim form for repairs due to sunroof leakage. This covers other cars but includes the 2015-2019 SportWagen and the 2017-2019 Alltrack. My SportWagen's In Service Date was 11/12/2020 (bought new old stock) and currently has about 53K miles. The class action says VW covers 70% of cost of repairs under the 3/36 warranty. The percentage changes based on years in service and mileage and which warranty you got. See the info HERE
More of lurker than a poster typically but needed to vent. Our well cared for and 2 months from fully paid off 2018 was in accident with a dipshit who couldn't bother to turn his head before changing lanes on the masspike. Just got a quote for 15.5k plus from the body shop, definitely going to be totalled. His insurance is assuming liability, we'll see how hard they try to screw me. Thanks for listening

So, consensus is you'd be fool to consider a used 2017 Alltrack? Saw an ad today for a 6-sp MT flavor, 70k miles, ad mentions new clutch and flywheel, new brake pads and rotors on all 4 corners, and new front hubs in the last 6 months, but nothing about the water pump. Asking $21k

IMO don't get one with a sunroof. They can leak. Destroying the car and taking it out of service for months. That means S trimline only.
I have an 83k MT6 manual 2018 S. It has been a good car. Water Pump replaced under warranty around 60k. Still can smell antifreeze when I park it but only needs topped off with an ounce or two every few months. This is pretty normal status for them.
Have had no other issues.
I'd wonder why that car needed a new clutch? The stock clutch can't handle even the stage 1 tune, but should last forever with stock turbo and factory tune. Mine is as good as new. No tune and absolutely does not need one for my needs.
Just returned from Colorado. Averaged 34 mpg at 74 mph average, which is cruising at a steady 80. Downhill and downwind, but still, awd and almost 35 mpg at 80? Great on gas and the manual has tall gears ideal for interstate highway speed cruising. Went 455 miles on a fill with the smallish tank.
Biggest issue is probably rear diff/haldex going bad on some of them can cost big money if you replace with a new one like a 4500 part plus labor.
Turbo wastegate actuaters can fail resulting in need for new turbo. Probably 2k?
Waterpump as mentioned.
I think those are the big ones. Love, love my car but I do think about trading it for a new Highlander Hybrid or Sienna on a regular basis just because I like shit that runs cheaply forever.
I paid 22,250 for mine brand new in 2018. So it was a great buy as of today. The MK7.5 (2017 is MK7 with styling changes) platform is dialed and fun and doesn't wear on you after hours of driving. Just an incredible highway car.
If it wasn't for the German engineering I'd keep it forever 100% because it is almost perfect for me, and I still might depending. But, reality is the thing is a VW out of warranty with all the associated headaches to worry about so it feels like gambling.
LOL.... or just snake the drain tubes yourself and keep driving. Took me at most 2 hours and I just removed the lower flaps that caused the buildup. I ordered 2 hose cleaners from amazon and clean them as annual maintenance now.Quote:

To be fair, before I knew this was an actual issue I wouldn't have bought any VW with a sunroof. And the S has slightly more headroom and was cheaper. So I started out biased.
S can leak also for that matter, but much less likely and easy to diagnose and repair.
Just giving Dan advice based on what I have seen and heard online. Been a while since I weighed in here on this car of mine. The car he referenced has no sunroof so it doesn't matter.
The only thing that really scares me on my S is the rear diff issue. A lot of guys are just sourcing used audi diffs off of ebay for a few hundred and paying $1k for somebody to install them.. Some guys are reporting 200k plus with no issue though. I guess we won't know until 10 years from now how widespread of an issue it is. Mine is quiet like a mouse still.
Dan - I would try to sit in the seats first. As a scrawny, athletic person I find them terrible. I bring a pillow to sit in my wife's Alltrack for anything over 30 minutes or else my sciatic nerve goes haywire. May not be a problem with others and no idea if it's the same with other VW seats but I don't get it in other cars that I've ridden in. Only the Alltrack. Agree with everyone that the car is great, just wish the seats treated me better.
Unrelated - any WA area Alltrack owners have an extra set of wheels they want to sell me? Want to mount the snows on a separate set of wheels. Used OEM VW seems to be a crapshoot, probably going steelies but happy to save a few lbs a corner.
So they want 21k for a six year old car that was 28 new? My manual is priceless so maybe worth doing it. I have no sunroof and don’t miss it.Quote:
