Sunday at AM was decent. Rode from 9ish until 2 with an uber short lunch break. Snow stayed decent all during that time (i.e. no stickiness, and I was on skinny sticks with no recent waxing).
Monday, Sunrise Bowl at the top of Tahoe/Donner was semi-corn near the top of Donner Ridge around 11 am. Got a little schloppy on my way back to the truck, but I got some quick/easy laps in.
A week ago Friday, when I was at Boreal, I noticed a few wet slides on some of the aspects on Donner Pass ("Poop Chute", for example). Also, the road into Castle Peak is still about 5ft+ hight at 80. Long skin in or sleds needed. The parking lot at Boreal was surrounded by at least 10ft+ snow walls (you couldn't see 80).
Heard that Jackson Meadows/Mt. Lola area is similar (heard that during a recent search/rescue the Forest Service blew up a coupla sleds just trying to get skiers out to the search starting point; road is covered something deep).

Yesterday even east lines at cp at 9:00 were not great from lack of freezing temps and I'm sure today was even moreso. Sposed to lock up again this weekend but until then, the groomed and skier compacted slopes on closed resorts/side country is gonna perform best
True dat. Ran last 2 days. Early. Last night snotel cp temps crept up just a couple degrees from night before. Big dif in snowpack. Rot moved up mtn and was one n done on solar aspects. Interested to hear a thought or comment on how north performed in what is sitch of record/near record temps popping up around our home zone. Btw aint going into groomed or side country cause my bike is whining for a spin. South aspect rim and corral i hear is kinda good. Big skier upside is huge snowpack gonna recycle after this disturbance (which could be a few days +) and the corn harvester gonna gas up again.Quote:

Stubai on friday was deepest i've seen all winter. Saturaday was an absolute shit show. Never seen anything like the crowds out. People were skiing over avy debris where someone was still sitting with an deployed airbag. I've never seen so many people behave like lemmings, skiing areas that were obviously avy prone. I'm just glad not more happend! We got out of there sharpish.

Hit Pyramid today. Saw a 70+ year old on snowshoes hiking solo on his way down from the summit. He looked like he could go for a few more laps. Props to him cuz he's almost twice my age and walked down. So much for my ego, I'm pretty damn tired after today. Anyway, snow was def sticky with today's temps. Snow def froze overnight up high but that changed quickly on the descent. Anything steep was soughing but only the top 2-3 inches. Evidence of Multiple old slides did not seem to run far or step down. We avoided anything steep regardless given the temps and sticky snow.

What are expert sources forecasting the snow level for the weekend systems?
8000 during the day tomorrow, 7000 by late afternoon, 6500 tomorrow night!

Approached from 50 starting at the horse tail falls parking lot up the ridge through manzanitas. Snow started about 1500 feet above the road. Took a different route down along a stream that drops you off just a bit west and lower than our starting point. Been raining pretty much all day in Truckee, however, it turned to snow @ 6000ft (give or take a few 100 feet) about an hour ago up in T/D. Snow falling is wet and heavy, sticking to dirt and wood (my balcony railings, for example), but not to the roads.
My interpretation of the weather forecasts is to expect about 8 inches overnight...
8" sounds about perfect for an early May snowfall. Today was the boy's birthday. Way too tired to motivate for a ski, but I did earn credits today that I could cash in. Mid age has settled in.
