Do you guys do any mag holders? Starting to look at options for a kydex 2x pmag holder, and 4x single stack mag holder as gear placement has been my achilles heel in 3 gun comps this summer. My shooting has been great, but my times have sucked. Missed the top 5 at a comp last friday by 1/2 a second because I dropped a pmag while drawing it from my back pocket.Quote:

I have a Glock 21 .45 with Night Sights and a TLR1 HL, not worried about needing much more. I like AR15s for sure, but I would hate to touch one off inside a house with no ear pro, the .45 would be bad enough. Plus the muzzle flash alone be pretty disorienting, I think. Yep, that's why suppressors exist. :) My LGS has a stack of LE trade in Gemtech Trek's behind the counter for $225 if you'd like me to put you in touch with them. But if you are most comfortable with that .45, it's likely the best HD gun for you. Part of my rationale is also derived from the fact that I'm an OK pistol shooter, but am very, very proficient with a carbine. I'd be happy with a bunch of center mass hits under heavy pressure with a pistol, but can put a rifle round thru a buttonhole under similar stress. It's just what I am most comfortable with.Quote:

Excellent advice - thank you. I'll have to decide what to use (sandpaper, scotchbrite, someone even recommended using a cork?!?) and will then pull off a grip and test it under there to make sure I'm not going to be doing more harm than good.Quote:

Think I'm sticking with stainless on this one. I've got a 590a1 out for stealth gray cerakoting of the receiver, barrel & mag tube. Depending on how it comes out, I have a couple of other guns (polymer) that may get coated as well.Quote:

No trigger work or class 3 stuff (cans, sbs, sbr's, aow, fa) if you have to shoot somebody, no matter what.
A shotgun for sure has a lot of energy, no question, but the downsides outweigh the upsides. I used to think the 12ga was the end all be all of HD, until I took a 2 day shotgun class and then spoke with several long tabs I know.
-Slower to reload.
-Fewer rounds.
-Greater recoil, slower (OR less accurate) follow up shots.
-Shorter range.
-Over penetration is still a concern, anything that will do 12" or more in gel and incapacitate can also over penetrate. Bird shot is not effective.
-How many people know what pattern their buck (OO, #2 etc) shoots? I've only found two rounds that would spread 6" or less at 20m, anything bigger and you're planning on misses. Some were giving me 36" at 20m and over a foot at 10m, that is totally useless and dangerous.
-Modern polymer tip HPs and semi frangible rounds help for pistols and rifles.
-Typically longer, harder to maneuver in confined spaces.
-Noise is going to be bad regardless, I wouldn’t want to shoot a rifle or 12ga inside, most rifles also have flash hiders, not many shotguns have them.
Not sure I agree with the trigger job being bad for you. Did one intend to pull the trigger or not? A trigger job wont change that.
Man, some of you have some really nice 1911s! Very jealous... After a 5 shot J frame a 1911 is next on my list.

#1 is pretty much a fact. I've spoken to people who carry a piece of shit gun operating under that theory, as they wouldn't want to 'loose' a gun they are attached to. While I understand the perspective, I don't have any guns that I wouldn't give up in a heartbeat in exchange for my own safety, or the safety of my family. So I carry what I'm most comfortable shooting, and if that means I have to loose a $700+ pistol or a $1300 rifle & $700 can in exchange for our safety, so be it.

Yes, it is an angle that a prosecutor could attempt to exploit, but if you handle yourself properly and have a good lawyer who understands how to assert an affirmative defense, the custom work really shouldn't be an issue.
If anyone ever has a chance to take a class with Massad Ayoob, particularly his MAG-20 class (Armed Citizen's Rules of Engagment) I would HIGHLY recommend it. It's not a shooting class, it's more of legal theory & concepts and goes really deep into the rights and responsibilities that go along with carrying. You are deluged with so much important information that it isn't even funny. It's like drinking water out of a fire hose. His books are also excellent. Among the important topics he covers is when to shoot, what to do immediately afterward, and how to mount a proper legal defense. As I had heard about the 'risks' of carrying a modified gun from several previous instructors, I completely believed it until I took Ayoob's class. His thoughts on how to handle yourself, and how to find the RIGHT lawyer (you most likely don't want a traditional 'criminal' lawyer) moved me past this and really helped in seeing the 'big picture'.

I think it's time to get a suppressor. I'd like to get one that I can use on my .308's--The PWS MK220 and the Savage 10. I've done some googling but seems like a real cluster fuck. Anyone have any tips or experience as to how to go through the process?
If you're going to start getting NFA goodies, it may be worth looking into having a trust created. If it's just going to be a one off thing, go to a LGS that carries NFA stuff, or check out silencer shop. Haven't used them myself, but 2 friends have and said they make it very easy. Basically you buy what you want, and give the dealer all of your info. They'll fill out all the paperwork and show you where you need to sign. You then go get the paperwork signed off on by your chief of police (unless you have a trust), get printed and send along some passport photos with the $200 for your NFA tax. ~6mos later, your stamp comes in and you can pick up your new can.
AAC's got a great reputation, but you'll pay for it. Friend recently picked up a SilencerCo Omega and has been using it for 300blk, 5.56 and .22lr with nothing but good things to say about it.
Just spent a couple days hunting with a buddy whose neighbor is the gov sales guy for PWS. Apparently he's a Landcruiser guy so my buddy is going to make an introduction. I could find out more on suppressors for you when that trip happens.
