Heartbreaker of a year, just one disaster after another. Really hope the boys catch a break soon, they have certainly earned it at this point.

17º under a calm clear sky bob.
After an unwelcome 3 1/4" of warm rain we were "blessed" with a solid 5/8" of backside snow, thanks Grinch.
Looking out I see active snowmaking on Jester, Organgrinder and lower Lower Organgrinder and a park cat working on Slowpoke. So one more trail off the top for next weeks mayhem.
We certainly need a break in the East
You're welcome!
I'm just waiting to see if we open on the 22nd or they push it back after the deluge. Theyre making the call today. Coincidence that the webcam is down?

I think Grinch has local concerns but I appreciate the Magic update - hope they’re able to spin for the weekend, that would rock.
River reopens Saturday. No report on whether or not the road by the Matterhorn will have two functional lanes by then, but based on the amount of construction traffic, the portion left must be pretty solid.
Speaking of local restaurants, apparently the Steam Mill crew had a sleepover Monday night because they couldn't get home. No word on whether there's any booze left in the restaurant.
Agreed. But if anyone other than Killington can, it’d be Sunday River. Been that way for decades… right Les?
As much as I dismiss Sunday River for what it has become, it is only because I grew up there as a teen and had a hell of a time ripping around that place. Nowhere could live up to those childhood memories… GET OFF MY LAWN! I also went back and coached there for a bit before it jumped the shark and became what it now is… Mall of Massachusetts. That kind of familiarity can breed contempt and I haven’t been back skiing there in over 20 years… I just hate the corporate homogeneity of the place. I should get over it and go back for a day… they always have great snow surfaces and will rebound quickly and efficiently from this blow that would leave most reeling and on the ropes.(Sorry Magic).
Sunday River will take this on the chin and keep on going. Good for them. Props.
The loaf will spin a few chairs tomorrow with a gerrymandered trail offering, onward

Mall of Ma! Too funny. I was a passholder there maybe 2001 - 2003? Went back to visit friends maybe in 2005, and the entire hill across from a White Heat was developed into McMansions. WTF! As a native Masshole, I think most folks felt more comfortable there, than with the tristate at Killington, despite the fact Killington is probably 45 mins closer to Boston. SR kills it in the synthetic snow game, because the simply have to.
It's very easy to get salty about the McMansions (and Merrill Hill puts that Mt. Will development to shame), especially when people start talking about sustainability while also being reliant on real estate revenue, which is effectively an extrication industry like mining. But the reality is that the River has been mining real estate money since the beginning, the newest stuff is just more expensive.
I do get a little bummed about the number of places you used to be able to go make ill-advised attempts to drive questionable woods roads that are now either developments or gated and owned by anti-motorized-access organizations, but change happens. I've been to plenty of New England towns that haven't grown in decades, and I'll take growth.
Plus, some of that real estate money helps build things like D-Line lifts and frost-free snowmaking lines that can be left charged to take advantage of shorter windows.
I couldn’t believe this video from Jackson NH. I spent so much time in Jackson and in the Whites growing up. My bro and I used to play in Jackson Falls in the middle of the video. Just unbelievable to see the Wildcat River like that. Vibes to those there:

Saw that on the snowbrains insta. Absolutely nuts.

Praying Platty can somehow open something off the top for Saturday but not holding out hope. Still pumped for a NE ski day.

last weekend they ran the triple only. i'd expect the same this saturday. they have had decent snowmaking windows since the rain so there should be good cover on whatever's open. looks pretty great considering...and with the coldest stretch of the week now upon us.

even without the hikes to the nats, the limited routes off the triple were soft, fast and fun.
No, thats great though. The temps are looking to cooperate for a bit/fingers crossed. Crabbe mt is still without power so theyve pushed back opening a few days and despite the nice temp drop they cant fire up the guns. Feel for those guys. They busted a gut this year trying to get it together before the xmas break with their new guns until they got shut down. Other hills in the province have them fired back up and broadcasting it on the socials. Poor crabbe even lost their webcam and wifi. They should be back at it today hopefully

Unfortunately it looks like one more negative storm before a pattern change - a potentially significant change for the better. Whether that can deliver a big "reset" storm is TBD. But another week of bah humbug to suffer through beforehand.
I feel for Magic. Ever since having water in pond the temps - not mentioned the precipitation type - has not been friendly. Temps are turning out a bit colder this week than expected a few days back so maybe they can string something together. Key will be if guns can stay on tomorrow down low.
The old Agony under that slow double was a hell of a run.

There is nothing like a bump run directly under the chair when you’re full of hormones and just got fucked up on Goat Path from a Veryfine juice bottle filled with god-knows-what mixed shots of whatever you could steal. Don’t hit the towers! Different risk calculus back then. We were invincible!
you sayin’ you be vincible now?
Very vincible…
“When your mind makes a promise that your body can’t fill.” is my ski Mantra now.
But, “With the right medication, we won’t be lazy.”
Old folks boogie
Sounds like there’s a line between invincible and convinceable that one must cross with or without the agony of a juicebox

That Jackson vid is crazy. Jeezus.
^^ yea it's the sort of footage that would've be startling enough if it were happening in the tropics, far away.
vincible or not, just be mindul of your bobulation. discombobulated is a dangerous way to be. or is it? :fm::party::wookie:
If there was footage of the Sunday River at the twin bridges (Ketchum), I suspect it would also be quite impressive. Both bridges are still there, but apparently the roadway between them no longer exists.

Conditions were…variable. Feeling lucky we had an above average early season.
^^bluebird and all to yourself!!
After moping around the house for a couple days it was back to glading. It should work out. Then i see this and im psyched to get going again! Almost reminds me of eastern slopes of the rockies skiing av paths

Whitegrass WV from Tuesday night. Ended up there by chance, in a way, taking skis along on a trip with no expectations. But it all lined up: snow, an old friend, moonlight, and this obviously very special place. Lo-fi pics, but I think the spirit is there.
Timberline wasn't bad either, I understand the snow gun thing now...

Steam from snowmaking is obscuring the view this morning. Chemtrails were nicely colored by the alpenglow.
