anyone want to ski in the laurentians on saturday?
looking at you, bucket
Got to ride the new Sunshine 6 at Stowe today. Lots of stops and slow-downs. Working out the kinks or just a bunch of gapers? Regardless, according to my calculations, the new six pack has the same uphill capacity as the fourrunner (the six pack loads every 9 seconds vs every 6 seconds for the fourrunner).
Also… Evidently, all the testing in the world can’t simulate people unweighting the chairs as they unload. Apparently, that sudden unweighting causes the safety bar to drop back down. On our first ride up, we noticed a couple of chairs heading down with the bar down. For the rest of the day, there was a lift op standing at the unload point making sure the bar didn’t drop back down.
I spoke to a lift op later in the day and he said they plan to tighten the springs on the safety bars tonight.
know your DIN setting. for safety.
fact.

Good storm riding tonight. Looks like mss might not open tomorrow as well.
ETA turns out they are open
From the link:Doesn't the hiking trail still cross? I feel like it's just above shelter on Pico, some of those views look familiar. may be thinking of the trail to Pico peak though.Quote:
In 1999, the Appalachian Trail and Long Trail, previously crossing through the proposed connection area, were rerouted to the west side of Pico.

Just got back last night from the ravine/Conway for AIARE 1. Highly recommend doing the course if you haven’t. It was very interesting and really makes you think and ask questions, as well as increases situational awareness.
Couldn’t of asked for two better guides/instructors and the weather was great, minus the sharky snow pack.
unbelievable amount of snow down in rawdon quebec. it just kicked up another notch, maybe a little bit of heavier mixed in. i moved the car and my roof looked like something out of tahoe with 18” glued to it.
came up for a few days of xc with the gf and deeply regret my quiver
Got a tour in with friends yesterday before the rain.

Nice! Looks like a good time!
Just flashed over to freeze here in CNY.
Can confirm, skiing is currently fun.
Rain stopped and a few dozen on the hill.
Surfy cream cheese
There will be a base going forward!
^^ aldo - you'll get the next one - base is good!
(been repairing bases regularly lately)
good news. base build. and yes mountain was indeed good. in many places more powder than packed.
sorry i missed you guys getting over to TZ. i ended up at trick. got to 'zone next run. amazingly soft. would have been fun with the group. next time. good seeing you if briefly.
yea mad reported 7" and cam looked ok even in rain.
glad it's good there.
surf on! :yourock:
Pissed rain til 4ish, then the snow started. 6” already by the ole ‘nooski, and some soup by headlamp.

Skiing should be fun tomorrow. (Pre-seasoning, generous pepper applied before consumption).

Cannon closed today, tomorrow and Xmas(always closed Xmas). No power. Crazy windy in the notch.

Off to a late start near my hometown deep in Wegmans country. Swain had a lift running and all snow guns blazing. Very few people braving the cold and wind. Right when I was stepping into bindings power went out, chair stopped.
well shit.
“Bonjour Tremblant! The storm continues and it brings us once again its share of challenges. It is currently impossible for us to confirm our operating plan for the day given the current weather conditions and a power outage that affects most of our facilities. Please note that the first tracks are canceled, and we invite you to stay tuned for the most recent updates.”
-2º bob -10 summit w/light NW at base. Not for sure how much snow fell after the freeze as the wind raged all night, enough to wake me a couple of times. Other than a dozen or so power flickers yesterday no issues so far, feeling lucky.
Snow compressed by rain/heat from 20" to 10" in the yard with an inch or two of fresh pow on top. Not supportive for walking on though skiing might be ok. Yesterdays tracks across the yard are rock hard, like iron.
Yesterdays snow with rain on top skied nice. Maybe a couple dozen people on the hill, didn't even notice that they closed snorth and Gatehouse at 1:30 due to lack of skiers. Until I tried to catch GH to get home.

Natural snow trails were wisely closed and have a new base layer on top that is rain bonded, should be challengely fun to ski once opened

I am fairly sure Egans woods didn't ski that well though it provided some lackluster Lower Birdland poaching

Fun but crusty in the laurentians!
4 ish” on a supportive breakable crust.

crust wasn’t bad if the snow hadn’t been disturbed for me. varying 4-12” in turns but sometimes crusty underneath sometimes a wind crust on top.
saint sau having trouble with the 50mph gusts.
tomorrow will be really good.
^^ looks really nice - if a bit tricky.
Found the same breakable crust in the northern Greens. Could have been worse. High of 9f when I got back to the truck. The crust should firm up over the next few days and make for a lovely base.

back in the upstates, thinking of trying to hit up Bristol this coming Tuesday but going to monitor their snowmaking/conditions report today/tomorrow/monday to see if they open any more terrain.
heading up to Jay next weekend for new years, read a report they got like 7" of back end snow last night after the liquid precip. switched over; agreed that'll be great for the base but a little worried about the next wave of weather inbound for next Saturday/Sunday; I guess we'll wait and see, keeping the fingers crossed for a Christmas miracle.
$teaux was pretty sweet today…if you dared to duck ropes. Folks on holiday on the trails, I only saw people I knew in the woods/closed trails.
Merry Christmas, you filthy animals.

Mt. Ellen had about 12 cars in the lot when I left at 11:00. Total ghost town with loud pow and some wind but some soft snow here and there.
Better than sitting around drinking coffee all morning…..I guess
